Gummi Bear is Disintegrating!

TMZ has learned that our favorite ursine specimen, Jason "Gummi Bear" Davis, has developed -- wait for it -- a flesh eating disease! Call a vet!

Gummi told our staffer that he contracted a staph infection after scraping his legs in a nasty fall a couple of months ago. Gummi fall down go boom! The open wounds became infected, causing "weeping" sores that spread all over his body, back and legs. Unbearable! Gummi said he's on a powerful antibiotic called Zyvox-- at $4,000 a pop! Jason told a TMZ staffer, "I am literally being eating alive!" A smorgasboard for bacteria that could take up to thirty-two years to accomplish.

One positive thing for Gummi: he's given up booze and says he hasn't had a drink for nine weeks. Just when the bear was repairing, he starts to rot.

16. Me thinks Gummi, or someone paid by Gummi, is writing the nice comments, for Gummi is truly a crusty botch of nature, obvious to all!

18. Yeah a Staph infection can actually kill you...it's really not funny to see someone go through it. I wonder where he scrapped his leg cuz people usually get it from overseas...guess he was at Paris house....I feel bad for whoever bought her house...yuck!

20. Actually, the combined mortality rate for all the many, MANY different types of necrotizing fasciitis is about 25-30% if you get treatment according to the CDC and the NIH.

21. Most likely though, since he's an outpatient and all, he has cellulitis. That is a skin infection that also "eats the skin" and can get pretty nasty if it gets into the bloodstream or lymphatic system but is easily treated. The medias call both cellulitis and necrotizing fasciitis "flesh-eating disease", although none of them actually eat flesh, the bacteria secret (crap) toxins that destroy the cells. Cellulitis is common with obese people because they often have bad circulation and diabetes which in itself can compromise circulation. Amazing what you can find on the internet!

22. This is some absolutely riveting journalism. How can Fox and CNN News never mention Gummi Bear? All of America waits with bated breath to find out his next move. I tremble with anticipation of your next riveting chapter, "Gummi Bear Gets A Hangnail."

26. Thanks for the Gummi Bear update. This guy is famous for being....what? A lazy slug? And why doesn't HE ever attack the paparazzi? Because you don't bite the hand that feeds you, right? How exactly does Gummi Boy earn a living? Say, next time you decide to make someone famous for doing absolutely nothing but sitting around, give me a call. I can do that in my sleep. ;-)

27. I can see why he survived. The bacteria died of overeating and exhaustion.

What a fat-ass!

28. Yammalammadingdong: He doesn't attack the paps because he's too fat. Anything strenous, such as getting off his huge ass too fast, would give him a coronary.
If he tried to yell, he'd become so winded he'd need an oxygen mask.

29. Tragic all 900 pounds of him and his addictions. VERY SAD that his aging parents can't put him in REAL and (hard) rehab for ever addiction under the sun. And keep him there for like FOREVER.

30. Gummi I'm so sorry to hear that. Esp the contraindication of Zyvox and alcohol.

You can pick up staph in public pools. Stick to the ocean.

Take care.
