John Singleton Involved in Fatal Pedestrian Accident

John SingletonJohn Singleton, acclaimed director of "Boyz in the Hood," was involved in a fatal accident Thursday night in Los Angeles.

LAPD officers tell TMZ Singleton was driving his 2001 Lexus SUV around 8:00 PM on a Los Angeles street, when a female pedestrian, not in a crosswalk, suddenly stepped in front of Singleton's car. Police say Singleton immediately stopped and waited for police and an ambulance to arrive. The 57-year-old woman, identified as Constance Russell of Los Angeles, was taken to a nearby hospital where she died Friday morning.

Police tell TMZ Singleton was not speeding at the time and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Cops say their investigation has concluded and they've determined that this was a "very, very unfortunate accident."

Singleton will not be cited for any violation.

A call placed to Singleton's agent was not immediately returned.

31. It's unfortunate, but as we can all see, even if he was DRUNK, STONED OR
DRIVING on the wrong side of the road, he wouldn't even get any punishment!

He'd probably get 15 mins in jail and an hour of community service,
time and place to be determined BY HIM at his convenience, of course!!!

LA is another planet where the rich make the rules....yeah, that's fair.

32. What a horrible accident. Maybe the little talentless brats in Hollywood could take a lesson from Mr. Singleton..be responsible, don't be driving drunk or otherwise impaired and if you cause an accident, own up to it and take responsibility, whether or not anyone is injured...My heart goes out to the the family of the victim and to Mr. Singleton. What a horrible thing for everyone involved!

33. Let me clarify my last post..Mr. Singleton did not cause this accident, I was referring to several other auto involved incidents involving the likes of Britney and Lindsay when they acted irresponsibly or just plain stupidly. Again, my heart goes out to everyone involved in this awful accident.

35. I praise him for staying and assuming responsibility. It is unfortunate that this happened but accidents are sometimes unavoidable. I pray the family of Ms. Russell can hear the prayers and find comfort that she has left this miserable world and has gone on to a place of peace. I don't know their religious affiliation but I hope they do what they can to bring the peace of mind. I hope they don't take advantage of this situation and decide to extort money out of someone in the name of their loved one. It would be completely disgraceful to take a loss of life for that type of situation.

37. Sad, sad for all.

Singleton, thank goodnes , had no alcohol, no drugs in his system and was not speeding.

Thank goodness he did what he did by calling for help, waiting, ...her family will sue and their will be a undisclosded settlement.

To you racist and other sick SOB's here, obaserve, all but you three or few sick psoters have read this situation wrong. It is good t oknow that most TMZers read make the rigth conclusion most of the time. GoTEAM!!!!!!!

38. ZXE what an unbearably asinine remark; there is nothing "gangsterish" about John Singleton, he IS a filmmaking genius, and this was a completely random and extremely tragic thing to have happen to both him and that poor, unfortunate jay-walking woman. I bet he feels absolutely horrible about this - wouldn't you, if this happened to you?

40. Maybe you were joking, but it is not only "black guys". There have been several instances of white celebrities who've been in car accidents with fatal results -Matthew Broderick accidently killed a mother and daughter, when he was driving on the wrong side of the road.

45. 13. Another genus who's movies provide society with uplifting and thought provoking
stimuli. So many wanna be gangstas who can't even control their own vehicles.
If they had chauffers then they wouldn't be seen and they all want attention. I never did
like him anyway.
