NFL Suspends Vick

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell notified Michael Vick today that he is indefinitely suspended without pay from the National Football League, effective immediately.

Following are excerpts from Commissioner Goodell's letter Vick:

Your admitted conduct was not only illegal, but also cruel and reprehensible. Your team, the NFL, and NFL fans have all been hurt by your actions.

Your plea agreement and the plea agreements of your co-defendants also demonstrate your significant involvement in illegal gambling. Even if you personally did not place bets, as you contend, your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL Player Contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player. You have engaged in conduct detrimental to the welfare of the NFL and have violated the league's Personal Conduct Policy.

I will review the status of your suspension following the conclusion of the legal proceedings. As part of that review, I will take into account a number of factors, including the resolution of any other charges that may be brought against you, whether in Surry County, Virginia, or other jurisdictions, your conduct going forward, the specifics of the sentence imposed by Judge Hudson and any related findings he might make, and the extent to which you are truthful and cooperative with law enforcement and league staff who are investigating these matters.

I have advised the Falcons that, with my decision today, they are no longer prohibited from acting and are now free to assert any claims or remedies available to them under the Collective Bargaining Agreement or your NFL Player Contract.

32. There are too many dog lovers in the world to allow such an offense to go without punishment. The NFL surely had a rough draft of the letter ready and had no intentions of allowing Vick to play again. Who would come to see him?!? Anyone at this point?!?! He would keep the stadiums empty. This is actually worse than Lindsey, Paris, or Nicole in the fact that they have gotten into trouble for being under the influence of drugs/alcohol, or in Paris' case, just driving without hurting anyone. Michael Vick risked what he knew was an extremely succussful career in order to participoate in something not only illegal, but socially deplorable as well! A DUI I can forgive (if you don't hurt anyone). Purposefully killing dogs that are not "performing well enough" is just sick. Pit bulls used to be family animals. The Little Rascals had one! People that raise the animals to be mean are bad enough. People that raise them to kill are pathetic. What kind of sick thrill can you get watching two animals tear each other apart? Really?!! And he didn't do it for money, he can make more in one afternoon. I hope this teaches other NFL superstars (He WAS a superstar!) to invest in a nice Starbucks or Baskin-Robbins if they want to help support family members by opening a business.

42. blah blah blah....are you a friggin moron?

I would not be afraid of a pit bull off a leash, seriously you aren't any smarter than Michael Vick are you? I am just gonna be totally honest here and let you know what we think....WE think that not one of you are any better than the other. These actions, and yours for sticking up for him are both primitive, savage, babaric, and down right sociopathic.

He did us a favor by killing those dogs? Tell me then, since you know it all....why didn't he just shoot them in the head instead of torturing them in such awful ways? What's your excuse for that? Couldn't buy an illegal gun in the ghetto? couldn't afford to buy a gun? There is NO EXCUSE for torturing an animal.....and ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for killing one in such cruel ways. It only takes 1 bullet per dog.....not drowning and hanging.

Also, pit bulls don't come out of their mother biting and clawing and killing.....VICK MADE THEM THAT WAY by torture and neglect and cruelty.

It's sick, and I don't give a rat's A** whether he's white or black, I would be saying the same thing if it were Manning. There was NO need for torture....that's just a sick and twisted individual that would do that.

44. They need to hang him see how he likes it! I hope he gets the full sentence of five years!

Posted at 7:14PM on Aug 24th 2007 by Arlene

45. This is such great news! I'm doing the happy dance. Although I'm sure that the NFL, as well as the Falcons, would have preferred an alternate outcome, they know they made the right decision. There would have been waaaaay too much backlash and they both would have lost support as well as revenue. It's all about the bottom line, but I'm still glad it turned out this way.
