NFL Suspends Vick

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell notified Michael Vick today that he is indefinitely suspended without pay from the National Football League, effective immediately.

Following are excerpts from Commissioner Goodell's letter Vick:

Your admitted conduct was not only illegal, but also cruel and reprehensible. Your team, the NFL, and NFL fans have all been hurt by your actions.

Your plea agreement and the plea agreements of your co-defendants also demonstrate your significant involvement in illegal gambling. Even if you personally did not place bets, as you contend, your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL Player Contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player. You have engaged in conduct detrimental to the welfare of the NFL and have violated the league's Personal Conduct Policy.

I will review the status of your suspension following the conclusion of the legal proceedings. As part of that review, I will take into account a number of factors, including the resolution of any other charges that may be brought against you, whether in Surry County, Virginia, or other jurisdictions, your conduct going forward, the specifics of the sentence imposed by Judge Hudson and any related findings he might make, and the extent to which you are truthful and cooperative with law enforcement and league staff who are investigating these matters.

I have advised the Falcons that, with my decision today, they are no longer prohibited from acting and are now free to assert any claims or remedies available to them under the Collective Bargaining Agreement or your NFL Player Contract.

91. Thank you Mr. Goodell, I have been appalled and sickened by some of the fans making excuses for Vick and saying he made a mistake. The only mistake Vick made was getting caught. Buying the property, purchasing a breeders license, breeding dogs to fight, buying fighting paraphalia, funding the fights, participating in the fights and killing the dogs who couldn't fight to save their lives, all took planning, money and participation on Vicks part, therefore, could not be deemed as mistakes. He knew exactly what he was doing and he knew it was illegal or he would have been doing it out in the open. Vick's dogs suffered a horrible injustice that only dogfighters cause on the animal. What Vick did was sadistic, cruel, intentional, willing and illegal. Vick is nothing but a thug. Anyone condoning and accepting what he did as a "mistake" is also sadistic and cruel. Vick had a choice, the dogs did not. Yes, those dogs may have fought if they met on the street, but people are to blame for the breeding and treatment of pit bulls, and people are the blame for ruining the reputation of a great dog. No punishment is severe enough for Vick and no one, whether a great athlete or not, should ever get away with what he did. Vick should never be allowed to play football, own an animal of any kind or have children. His involvement in dog fighting shows the inner man, in that he has no heart, sole, conscience or feelings. Too bad he can't be electrocuted and thrown against a wall. But once again, thank you for suspending him, may this be a wake up call for all the other athletes that think they are so good that nothing will ever happen to them. May those dogs all rest in peace.

92. WITH ALL THE WHITE CRIMES, YOU DON'T SEE WHITE PEOPLE DEFENDING THEM...BUT, WHEN A BLACK COMMITS A CRIME IT'S RACIAL....STOP THIS CRAP ALREADY...WHY SHOULD WE BE AFRAID TO SAY IT LIKE IT IS......MOST CRIMES,(VICIOUS ONES) ARE COMMITTED BY BLACKS.....JUST LOOK AT ALL THE VIOLENCE CAUGHT ON TAPE IN STORES, BEATING ELDERLY, RAPES, GUN VIOLENCE....FACE THE FACTS

95. Vick originally said he was innocent of all charges and looked forward to clearing his good name. He should be treated just like the dogs he tortured. Where are you now Jesse Jackson? Ban him from foofball for life!

96. Yet -- man's inhumanity to man goes on. Keep an eye on how justice is deliberated in this lopsided system of juris prudence.

97. To everyone who's automatically gone to the "race card" on this one; go to a nuetral corner, the round ending bell has rung. This isn't about a white man or black man or brown man or whatever; this is about one man who stupidly & viciously acted outside the rules of society, got caught due to his arrogance and is being punished for his lack of brain cells.

To those who continue to try to make this a racial thing, get a grip. There's too many stupid comments coming from all directions to limit it to something as inconsequential as race. For example, here's a quote from Jamie Foxx about his opinion of the Michael Vick situation:

"It's a cultural thing, I think," Jamie said. "Most brothers didn't know that, you know. I used to see dogs fighting in the neighborhood all the time. I didn't know that was Fed time. So, Mike probably just didn't read his handbook on what not to do as a black star. I know that cruelty to animals is bad, but sometimes people shoot people and kill people and don't get time," Jamie continued. "I think in this situation, he really didn't know the extent of it, so I always give him the benefit of the doubt."

Yeah. So, if you believe his brain dead comments, then it's OK to let him go because he's black and "from the neighborhood". Just as stupid as some of the dumbass comments like #36 ("Kramer was right. Remember his rant up on stage? Yep he hit the nail on the head"). So, since there's so much racial commenting stupidity going on here, why don't we instead focus on the issue here: the disgusting, reprehensible and unbelievably stupid conduct of this man. A previous poster said it best; this guy has got to be the biggest dumbass on planet earth. Anyone who throws away a $107 Million contract because he felt the need to abuse & kill dogs needs to be bounced from the human gene pool.

102. LOOK, NO MATTER WHAT COLOR, RACE,OR CREED HE IS, IT'S JUST HEARTLESS. HOW CAN ANYONE WATCH AN ANIMAL SUFFER? I ACCIDENTLY STEPPED ON MY DOGS PAW AND SHE YELPED, MY HEART SANK TO THE PIT OF MY STOMACH....ANIMALS DON'T KNOW WHY THEY ARE BEING HURT.....MY DOG AT LEAST HAD ME TO COMFORT HER.......THESE DOG FIGHTERS HAVE NO HEARTS, NO EMOTIONS, AND NO CONCIENCES.....I HOPE THEY NAIL THEM TO THE WALL....THE LAWS SHOULD BE HARSHER FOR THESE CRUEL BASTARDS

103. Carmen #106 ------

Are you out of you mind? This is WAAAAAAAAYYYY beyond bad judgement and wild youth. This is calculated, repeated torture and murder of innocent animals. Do you not see the gravity of this? I pray that you will. There's solid proof he did this. He brought himself, down, my dear -- he didn't need anyone's help.
