Things One Can Do in 82 Minutes

After Nicole Richie's short jail stint on Thursday (if you can even call it that), we got to thinking -- what could one do in 82 minutes or less?

Here's our list. Post yours in comments!

-Listen to the Lionel Richie album "Dancing on the Ceiling": 47 minutes

-Watch the DVD of "Cops: Bad Girls": 50 minutes

-Check out Lindsay Lohan in "I Know Who Killed Me": Yes, it's 104 minutes, but who can sit through the whole thing?

-Successively microwave 10 Stouffer's Country Fried Beef Steaks: 8 minutes each

-Enjoy "Pocahontas" with your children: 81 minutes

-Perform a laparoscopic appendectomy: 60 minutes

-Eat 66 Nathan's hot dogs: 12 minutes (Joey Chestnut only)

-Blink 9,840 times: 82 minutes

Well, that's not entirely true. Nicole Richie pleaded NOT guilty in February, remember? She was going to trial.

Nicole was arrested Dec 11, 2006 for DUI. She entered the Ventura Freeway via a freeway exit, apparently. She told officers she had taken the prescription painkiller Vicodin and smoked marijuana.

It's her second DUI arrest. She was arrested in July 2002 for DUI and in Feb 2003 for heroin possession and driving with a suspended license.

Her trial, scheduled to take place on July 11, was postponed (again) because Dr. Terence McGee, a drug expert who was going to testify on Nicole's behalf, was unavailable. She was ordered to appear in court on August 16.

"Dr. McGee can speak to the lack of reliability of urinalysis testing," Nicole's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, told Commissioner Steven K. Lubell. "He is crucial to her defense. If he is believed, and I believe he will be, then Nicole will be acquitted."

So there was a possibility, however remote, that Nicole might be acquitted.

What if she went to trial on August 16, was convicted and sentenced to, say, 60 days in jail? She would be booked and released in two HOURS.

Sheriff Lee Baca had learned his lesson from the Paris Hilton fiasco. He was wishy-washy, but he's doing everything by the book now, citing jail overcrowding. Federal trumps state, no?

So, what's the point? What if you were the DA and wanted to avoid a media circus?

I'd offer Ms. Richie a plea deal she can't refuse. And that's what happened.

She pleaded guilty on July 27 to driving under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to about four days in jail.

68. In 82 minutes I could suffer through nearly 3 raunchy episodes of the simple life watching Nicole Richie being a complete b!tch (ignorant too, I might add) and listen to her use the word "like" 82 times.

In 82 minutes, maybe someone out there could list all the guys that Nicole Richie has screwed.... um, not likely- we'd need weeks...hahaha
Oh, that poor baby

69. 82 minutes

Listen: If OJ can slaughter two people and get away with it because he is good at rhyming (if the glove doesn't fit...) and Robert Blake can knock off the mother of his child and go free, why would Nicole be expected to undergo a harsher sentence? I've always heard that America was "the land of the free" but I didn't know that was to be taken literally.

Listen, here is a prediction: If these bimbos are not taught the severity of driving while intoxicated (Lohan, Paris, Nicole) are going to kill some innocent person. No money in the world can bring back someone from the dead. L.A authorities really need to get a grip or it could be one of them under the bumber of some expensive piece of metal driven by one of these spoiled brats.

73. tnmilf,
Sounds like your uncle got reprimanded for intent to cause harm, or violence. Though his wife was clearly in the wrong, and her partner was stupid for gambling like that (roll the dice to see if he'd be found out in the act, in the man's very own home no less). Your Uncle should've just turned his back once he was noticed, and walked out to get the papers ready. Because there is no amount of arguing or fighting (jerry springer style, or civilized) that will change the trust, understanding, and vow that had been disregarded in order to catch a few seconds, or minutes of pleasure once the orgasm begins to start, peak, and finish. It was his error in how he reacted obviously. Just because you're married to somebody, that doesn't mean you own them.

BUT, back to subject.

It is very frustrating. Regardless if a defendant has the means to buy/afford the best representation available to him or her (of course, that's what anyone would do given the ability). In the end of cases such as these being paraded about cover-to-cover, & blog-to-forum, the "celebrity" and their 'super'-lawyer are making a mockery of the rest of the nation who recieve far worse sentencing for far less serious of crimes. No one is above the law, but these cases end up setting precidented marks, bearing the illusion that these figures CAN do as they please (reiterating the remark that Lindsey Lohan alledgedly percieves, "I can do anything.") and they really won't have to sweat anything out as long as they have the right person making plea's and bargining for them behind closed doors. The outcome of these recent cases is outright disgusting. And it obviously goes to show that Paris was indeed used as a pawn in a public battle between two men's egos.

74. Oh gosh why isn't everyone screaming now--she and Lindsey got off easy while the vultures circled for Paris's head! Guess we see who they are really jealous of.

75. Honestly, the legal system in LA is a joke but I'd rather Richie have gotten the shorter sentence she did than Lohan, the freak all the celebrities keep making excuses for
who hijacked a car, had cocaine in he pocket and said "the black guy did it" get the ridiculous sentence she got. The LA DA should be ashamed.
And anyone Miss Lohan causes any future trouble due to her drup use should sue LA.
baldwin and the others need to stop saying she needs treatment, not jail. How about both?
