Report Confirms Owen Wilson Attempted Suicide

Breaking NewsA "call to service" report from the Santa Monica Police Department, obtained by the television show "EXTRA," shows that the 911 call from Owen Wilson's home was made because the actor tried to commit suicide.

The call was received shortly after noon on Sunday and was "cleared" some five hours later. "EXTRA" is reporting that it was one of Owen's brothers who found him. Owen was rushed to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica and later moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Owen Wilson released this brief statement to TMZ through his rep: "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."

241. It was so horrifying finding my brother slumped over all bloody. At first, I thought he just had spilled a bloody mary. But then realized it was his big nosed blood. I then reached for the phone and dialed 777-FILM because I wanted to see what was playing at my local cinaplex. After I got done finding out when is the next showing of TRANSFORMERS I called my mother and ask her what she was making for dinner and that I may be stopping by. After that I called 911.

It was so awful for me

242. I can't wait for him to try again. You guys don't understand what he put me through. Owen is the neediest person I have ever met. He drove me insane with his insecurities. I don't care what team of doctors' see him (and trust me they'll need a team) The man is a circus freak!! There is no amount of healing or medication that can rein in the sort freakdom Owen possesses.

...where is Dr. Kevorkian when we need him

243. I'm hoping Owen go's AWOL in the hospital and tries to kill himself again. Only this time he gets a hold of tons of medication and doesn't complete killing himself, but winds up having a massive stroke instead and becomes horribly disfigured like the elephant man... That would be heaven!!!

244. Guess I was wrong a little about Owen Wilson and his attempted suicide. He apperently did not take an overdose of pills. I'm sorry for making statements in that regard, that he did take pills. However he is even more insane to slit his wrists without being comfortably numb.

MSNBC report:

Updated: 6:45 p.m. PT Aug 29, 2007
LOS ANGELES - Police were called to Owen Wilson’s house after the actor slit his wrists. However, contrary to other reports, there was no drug overdose, an attorney for Wilson told “Access Hollywood.”

The attorney also told “Access” that the actor did not have his stomach pumped. The attorney said Wilson had been taking antidepressants, but was not aware of any other drugs in his system at the time of the incident.

While rumors quickly swirled over what sent the actor to the hospital, police call logs confirmed on Tuesday it was an “attempted suicide.” However, the Santa Monica City Attorney’s office has announced it will not be releasing the 911 call made regarding Wilson.

248. You know what would be really cool ...Is if Owen gets well enough to
leave the nut house, gets home, relaxes with all of his immediate
family for the day, then when night falls, Owen go's nuts again and
this time kills all of his family members in there sleep and then
kills himself. Wouldn't that be an amazing "E true Hollywood"
story?

249. So sad. I wish to owen that he finds all help that he needs and that he can rested after this bad time. Don't die, we love you.

250. Interesting choice of screen name, as Johny "Drama" once pointed out on "Entourage": "Freud say's there are no accidents!" Raymond Burr who played Perry Mason was a homosexual and he refused medical treatment making his cancer terminal. So he as well was a life hater and by giving up in away commited suicide. Sort of like Owen Wilson being insane and thus making his depression a potentialy terminal illness. So I'm not nice because I think he should be locked up, so he cant hurt himselves or others?

251. This is so sad that so many people can say awful things about a person who just tried to kill himself. I mean seriously, I thought it was just a bender being a Monday morning in La after all. Come on already, the guy is hurting. Who cares if he is a player? Does he derserve to die? God lord! That means more than half the men and women in the entire fing world would just keil over. BE NICE!

252. Poncho does not like homeless people and they make him uncomfortable, besides I dont really care about them. Besides enough people need to feel good about themselves and like work there is enough employee's to ensure I dont have too do it!

I do have some compassion so I'll relay this as my compassionate plee please. Much like my belief young girls should be shamed into not having pre-marital sex, etc. Believe those like Owen Wilson should be shamed for trying to take their own life. So if you have blonde class clown OW friends please shame them away from being copycats.

As reported on MSNBC:

August 30th, 2007 by Laura Smith

All of the attention on actor Owen Wilson’s attempted suicide this week has worried health experts of depressed fans trying to successfully copy Wilson’s actions. Seeing an admired person with wealth and fame hit rock bottom can inspire them to do the same, especially if they are battling depression. Since suicide attempts are much more prominent than suicide deaths, it is a matter of stopping these people before they even try to attempt, just to reduce the risk of attempts alone.

Suicides are said to be the 11th cause of death among Americans. A number of factors combined can cause depression and make a person suicidal including mental disorders, substance abuse, and extreme stress. Celebrities are very succeptible to all of these conditions which makes Wilson’s actions both shocking yet understandable. Nobody knows what caused him to do what he did, and at the same time, it isn’t the public’s business to know. However, for the average person, health experts say that it is important for loved ones to find out before they take Wilson’s attempt as a calling to do the same.

This is not the first time that suicide has struck Hollywood. Some successful attempts have been undergone by Freddie Prinze, Kurt Cobain, and Marilyn Monroe. More recently, professional wrestler Chris Benoit took his own life along with his family. It seems like every generation has their own celebrity sucide tragedy, and it was only a matter of time before it struck again. The media may not help in lowering the risk of copy cat suicides. The more information that leaks out, the better a person can copy the act. This was true of many of the 70 copy cats who reinacted Kurt Cobain’s suicide who were able to closely set up the room and position to themselves according to pictures that leaked out of the horrific scene. Of course, sparing the gory details likely won’t keep someone from committing the act if they set their mind to it, and keeping such news out of the media is impossible, but driving them to mimic every detail only makes the action that much more horrific.

Amazingly, experts also announce that those with the same physical traits as the suicide victim are more prone to mimick their actions. When Marilyn Monroe died, it was reported that 119 blond haired, barbituarate using women took their own lives. They are now worried that young men with blond hair known to be class clowns will be most inspired by Owen Wilson’s attempt. Experts say that communication is the key to preventing suicide, especially when teens are involved. Parents are encouraged to talk about Wilson’s suicide attempt, especially when teens are involved. Parents are encouraged to talk about Wilson’s suicide attempt, leaving no stone unturned. Then, they might just be able to prevent a tragedy in their own lives.
