"Exorcist" Director Alarmed -- "I Been Robbed!"

The "Exorcist" director and the former Prez of Paramount Pictures have sued ADT Security Services, claiming the company made them "unwitting targets for home invasion."
Exclusive
According to the suit, filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court, William Friedkin and Sherry Lansing entered into a contract with ADT for their home in Bel-Air, a posh area of L.A. They say they made the deal because ADT represented that it "makes your home 3 times less likely to be burglarized."

According to the suit, last December, while the couple was on holiday outside the country, the alarm sounded. They claim it took ADT one hour and forty-five minutes for a patrolman to arrive. The suit alleges the patrolman came and went, without investigating or notifying the cops or the couple.

The lawsuit says the next morning, the housekeeper arrived and found the alarm was still blaring (or in Friedkin's case, Blair-ing). She found a stepladder perched beneath the second balcony. Broken glass was littered all over the place. The suit goes on to say "drawers in the bedroom and bathroom (were) left open and their contents strewn about."

The suit claims the thieves "stole jewelry that had significant amounts of value. Much of the jewelry was unique and irreplaceable." The couple's house was hit during in the middle of a rash of Bel Air break-ins.

The couple is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

21. You hire someone at 8 bucks an hour they are not going to hurry.
You also run the added risk of the security people being involved in the break in's.
They should just hire one person with knowledge of firearms to protect their home while they are out of town.
They hire armed bodyguards for themselves, but leave their multi million dollar homes to a company full of strangers.

23. The real question is , if this happened in December and the jewelry had significant and with irreplaceable value , why then are they filing now at the end of August ?
Maybe ADT gave them the run around up to this point , but over eight months of waiting for ADT to do the right thing ? Wouldn't this power couple have all the resources to have been able to get this situated much sooner , is my thinking.

And # 18 with all the caps/screaming , sure they have safety deposit boxes , but what you're saying is EVERYTHING has to be stowed away in those boxes in order to be safe from robberies?? How inconvenient is that , plus you would have to have a pretty huge box or several boxes , lol ( kidding ) .
Their home is in a very prestigious area , the odds of robbery are slim to none , hence the lax approach of maniacally protecting all of THEIR valuables ... unless there were cameras and the robbers disconnected them ...Give them a break .
They paid for services that ADT promised them in exchange.
Every month you make payments I know this as I have ADT . So while they dutifully paid and for how long , years perhaps ?
And then the one time THEIR house is robbed , with the alarm ( which I assure you , is mighty loud ) blaring for hours until morning ??? Wtf with ADT ??
As a result of reading this , I believe I may be switching security and get rid of ADT if they cannot even protect Sherry Lansing's home ,which by the way - is the first female to head a major motion picture studio and now is one of the hugest philanthropists .
She has a foundation and sits on the boards of various causes , especially cancer.
I venture to say there is more to the story and that she in fact does possess brains that some of you elected to ridicule without knowing of her or her background.
She is one person I will speak up for as both she and Mary Pickford are my absolute heros . These women are pioneers in film , they were/ are major contributors to Hollywood entertainment .

24. ADT usually calls when the alarm goes off and if you don' t answer they will send the police out within a 5 minute period or less. If it took them that long to respond, than ADT
owes them big time. They should be compensated for everything including the payments
that they made for the security services. I am sure their neighbors are too far to have
heard the alarm.
One more thing is Wllie Friedskin wearing lipstick? Also it looks like he plucks/waxes
is eyebrows. He needs to be "EXORCISED" because he is possesed to wear make-up!

26. We have ADT up in Seattle, and they suck here too. Highly NOT recommended.

Their installation "professionals" suck. It took 4 trips out here to get it installed correctly, still got false alarms, the fire department showing up, them calling 3 times a day saying there were errors...then 6 months go by and not a single call. I have no confidence that they're monitoring anything.

27. ADT used to be a pretty good company until Tyco bought them out and rehauled their management. Their systems are high tech and overpriced but they skimp on the basic stuff like having decent patrols with proper training.

28. I work for an alarm monitoring station, not in dispatch but I know very well how the system works if you do not program your alarm systems for high priority you will get a longer dispatch time because of the specific procedures the dispatcher must follow. Also the police handle the alarms according priority. Remember this is LA and there are real crimes besides people being robbed

29. The problem wasn't the security system - it worked as it should have. The problem was that the response was inadequate. I had a Honeywell Alarm System at my Orange County home and typically the best procedure is for the alarm company to contact a friend or a neighbor after making certain that the house is secure, and then have that person go to
the home if the owners are out of town to inspect it. It's unfortunate that Mr. Friedkin and
Ms. Lansing were robbed of their valuables. This is a criminal ~and~ a civil matter and most probably will be resolved in a civil court. None of us would want to have our homes broken into in this fashion. Shame on those of you who are gleeful that a rich and powerful couple had their home violated.

30. In addition to your "security system", you've got to go the whole nine yards - surveilence video and a real human guard.
