Ne-Yo Puts Britney on Blast

This morning on On Air with Ryan Seacrest, R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo discussed what occurred in his failed working relationship with Britney Spears. Brit still works?
Ne-yo: Click to hear!
Ne-Yo explained that he wrote 6 to 8 songs intended for Spears, which she loved, but once she shaved her head and went into rehab, all contact was lost as Britz didn't return calls. In the meantime, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger listened to the songs and purchased two of them. That's what we call a "jack move," folks! Ne-Yo now claims Brit-Brit is a little upset -- because he sold Nicole songs intended for her. Ya snooze, ya lose y'all!

Ne-Yo remained a gentleman during the entire interview and didn't take a few golden opportunities to trash the pop wreck -- even suggesting that a comeback is possible if she can separate her private and professional lives. No kidding!

1. it kills me how all these people who obviously know nothing about how the record industry works talk out of their asses (artists included). if ne-yo offered songs to britney, there was surely a contract involved (trust babies, jive does NOTHING without a contract and their legal department is close to flawless). if he turned around and gave it to another artist, he is indeed breaching that contract and depending how aggressively the label wants to pursue the matter, he can possibly be sued over this.
that being said, THE LABEL (with some artist input, depending on the artist and how successful at picking tracks they are/have been) ultimately decides which tracks go on an album and which tracks get a pass. chances are britney probably didn’t even get to read and/or pass on the songs. as for the a&r department not returning calls? please, they only do that on an as needed basis. in other words, we need you, we call you; otherwise don’t call us. he needs to grow up and get a good lawyer to school him. this is simply yet another attempt of someone trying to ride a famous, more established (whatever your opinion of britney is) artist's coatttails.

4. #2, do you even know who this guy is? Perhaps a quick Google, he may not have Brit money, (hell, Brit keeps up her crap, she's not gonna have Brit money) but the guy is PAID. Ride her coat tails, me thinks not!

6. in the know, you are dead wrong. If there WAS an actual contract in place Ne-Yo would have gotten paid.

If there was a contract in place and he didn't get paid, then it's Ne-Yo who could sue.

You may want to change your moniker to "not in the know".

7. he thinks she will be better off separating her person and professional life, huh... isn't that what most people write and sing about... and i'm sure it's much easier said than done - people go through far less than what she is and it still affects their work product or attitude to some extent - there was no reason to even go there, but he did. he is well known, but i guess nowadays when they can get some press, "no comment" is just not used anymore..

10. Shannon, You are right that guy Levar Thomas is incredible! What is wrong with the music industry?

11. #1

You obviously don't know how the music industry works either. Songwriters do sign contracts for songs. However, there are several ways contracts work. The label can write a contract for a songwriter to write several songs for an artist, but most of the time they do not designate what song the songwriter has made for the artist. From what I can tell from the interview Ne-Yo wrote several songs that Britney liked, however I doubt she had a contract for those specific songs to be hers and hers only. It's possible Ne-Yo can still write songs for Britney, because it's very probably she never had specific rights to those songs.

13. NE-YO DOES HAVE BRITNEY MONEY!

Ne-Yo writes for just about every R&B & Pop singers in the biz! IN THE KNOW, DOESN'T KNOW CRAP! Singers purchase songs from writers just like they purchase beats from producers!

15. THERE IS NO WAY NE-YO IS TELLING THE TRUTH

when you write songs & etc for people you have to sign a contract.

Something is not adding up. And I know Brit is a mess right now, but she's been in showbiz for a long time, she isn't dumb.

Anyway I'm sure she can make a comeback whether or not with Ne-Yo.
