It's Not Just Miss South Carolina

8/30/2007 2:53 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Caitlin Upton should feel very proud today. It seems she's not the only young person in America who appears to be a little less than informed. Christian activist and author Mark Dice dropped by San Diego State University to see how many of tomorrow's leaders know what year 9/11 happened.

Apparently, the unsuspecting >students couldn't quite remember. Perhaps if Mark had given them a hint -- like the year the Mariah Carey's cinematic masterpiece "Glitter" was released, or perhaps the year that Britney Spears' "Slave" song topped the charts. Come on Mark, give 'em somethin' to work with! It is understandable though, that collegians would be more likely to remember the last time Britney had a hit rather than the day that changed America forever. Oh Brit Brit! Ding Dang!

Over 2,700 people lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

wow this country is in serious trouble.
todays youth is more concerned with celebrities news than what is going on in the real world.
this makes me sad and extremely concerned for our country.

That's why I think you should be at least thirty years old to have the privilege of voting. And then an IQ test should be administered, along with a mental stability test.

Sometimes I wouldn't mind if we had a "benevolent dictator" rather than allow the "masses" to rule. The great unwashed, unlearned, irresponsible. However, the odds of having a benevolent, all-wise dictator for life aren't very good, so the system we have is probably the best.

While sad that most students are unaware of the year the atrocities of 9/11 took place, it is hilarious that TMZ continues to slip "ding dang" into every Brit-mentioning article. I love it!

But it does not make up for ignoramus students. 2001, people, 2001!

That is scary. These kids think they know so much. What the hell do they do in school!
Don't blame this one on the parents
How do they graduate High school in the first place and don't the teachers recognize that they are not learning?

I've always known that Americans are not the brightest. It doesn't shock me that theyhave no idea that 9/11 happened in 2001 - the majority DID vote the man we call "President" so clearly, they are dumb.

Most people in other parts of the world know US politics better than most US citizens. Don't even bother asking them what's happening in other countries.

Americans are leeches on society. They pollute the earth, overeat, are unproductive and arrogant. For such a large country, we have very little to offer. I am embarrassed to call myself an American.

It's so sad but true. The younger generation is sooooooo full of their self that they can't see past their iphones. All college age people should feel ashamed if they can't remember 9-11-2001!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is beyond terrible, it wasn't even long enough ago for people to already be forgetting. I remember that day very clearly and don't think I could ever forget.

What are these kids studying? Are tax payers' dollars being spent funding it?

They're not that old, they should be able to remember this event, it wasn't that long ago.

Irene said....
"We lost more people that day than Pearl Harbor."
America lost more people on D-Day than 9/11 and the Iraq war (so far) combined.
September 11, 2001 America was attacked.....Never Forget!

How can we complain that jobs are going overseas with this type of intellect coming off campuses! With all of the money going to education, what are we getting for it?? Our kids have the same potential as other countries!! Is anyone else getting tired of the excuses we get from politicians, educator administrators, teachers' unions, and some teachers? Drop out rates increase; SAT and ACT scores drop; and many kids who do graduate can't read their diplomas!! And, then we have Miss Teenage South Carolina, and this 'brain' from San Diego State! Our public education system is a dismal failure, and sadly, it could be fixed if politicians had any backbone!! Maybe when we outsource our lives to the far east (China and India), someone will come up with a brilliant idea of academic standards in public schools -- where teachers and administrators are FIRED if they do not meet goals and objectives!! PS: DISBAND UNIONS THAT PROTECT THE INCAPABLES!
