Humane Society Auctions Off Vick's Note to Self

On August 27, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick plead guilty to a dogfighting charge, and the following day held a press conference in Richmond, Virg., apologizing for his involvement in the Bad Newz Kennels dogfighting ring.

After Vick's four-minute speech, a rep with the Humane Society of the United States went up to the podium to retrieve his microphone, and found the note left by Vick containing his talking points.

Vick's big idea: apologize, apologize, apologize. The six-point speech calls for him to "apologize for what I've done;" apologize to his coach and team; tell young kids that "I acted immature;" ask for "forgiveness and understanding;" "take full responsibility for my actions;" and remind people that "we all make mistakes."

At the very bottom of the note was a reminder that "dogs have suffered."

"Watching video of the event, I recall Vick reading through his talking points. I don't recall him getting to those words at the end. No, for some reason, he didn't get to the dogs on whom he inflicted such tortures," wrote Humane Society blogger Wayne Pacelle on A Humane Nation. "The biggest apology of all was left unspoken-to the dogs who suffered and who died so horribly at his hand."

The Humane Society has put the note up for auction. Proceeds will benefit the Humane Society's Animal Cruelty Response and Reward Fund.

91. Vick did not and does not care or comprehend what he did to those dogs. He is an inhumane, uncivilized thing. He can't even be classified as a human being. Dogs have more class and compassion than he has. His so-called apology was nothing but a PR stunt with the intent to garner sympathy and forgiveness. Screw Vick. He needs to rot in hell.

92. wait a minute.... all great public speakers use format lists on how they wish to present their words... just because the man wrote down what he wanted to say, this makes him even more of a bad guy??.... he was prioritizing his comments... anybody who has been in front of an audience knows how difficult it can be to speak and even more difficult trying to keep the stuff in your head in order.... stop hating on this man... for crying out loud the president of the USA uses a teleprompter when trying to say speeches, and even then he STILL gets it wrong... Michael Vick made a mistake and he is paying for it, heavily $$$... and mark my words... Vick will be back with the NFL sooner than you think. ... and as for the dogs... we really don't care if we kill hundreds of thousands of cows for the BigMac or Whopper, do we? Let's get real...

94. I wonder what Whoppi G. will say tomorrow ! The "unsaid" tells the whole story. He is only sorry he got caught! Sorry piece of work, is his mommy and daddy proud now at the way they raised their kid. The team members and friends of this guy should also feel the sting of the "WHIP" as well. Sports hierarchy should take note that immpressionable kids are at stake here and make some new rules or a MORALITY Clause in the Legal Papers that each player signs when they sign onto a team.

95. Here's the thing......the first time you participate in a dog fight, either one of two things happens....
A. OMG! THAT WAS THE MOST HORRIBLE THING I'VE EVER SEEN. I'LL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN.
B. WOW! THAT WAS COOL! COUNT ME IN EVERY WEEK!

Vick chose B. That's why I didn't believe one word of the speech when I saw it. This just confirms my belief. Rot in Hell, Michael Vick. You got caught, that's why you're sorry.

96. Not surprising. Did anyone really believe that he felt sorry about what he did? I will be so sickened if the NFL allows him back in. He is not immature--he is sick, evil and a criminal. Why does the NFL seem to only be worried about the gambling issues? What about his vicious, murderous, inhumane acts? He held dogs' heads under water! He murdered multiple dogs. And he did so for years--most of his life according to his father. It is repulsive. Why would the NFL even consider allowing this guy to play ball in front of kids, or grown-ups for that matter? I hope Goodell finds some integrity, because Vick doesn't have any.

97. Vick is only sorry he was caught. If you can kill an innocent animal, especially because they don't make you money, and in such a cruel manner, i am afraid it will take more than an apology for you to be redemed. There is no excuse for this behavior. It takes a celeberty to bring this to national attention of the cruelties that are inflicted every day by people of every race, religion, enviormental, or economic background. These cruelties need to be addressed and stopped by society now!

98. Vick is only sorry for being caught. If he had not been caught he would still be doing it. I like someones earlier comment that people who abuse animals also abuse people. People who turn into serial killers or people who enjoy torture being on animals, then progress to people. Vick deserves the maximum sentence, and I hope that the people who used to be his fans do not forgive him, because if they do and want him back, he will be playing for the NFL again as soon as he gets out of jail.

99. I DO condone what Vick did to those worthless mutts. I have fought dogs before and I may go to a dogfight tommorrow. if you people would spend as much time NOT getting killed by a crippled ex-football player, NOT letting people crash planes (with you on them) into buildings, NOT being stupid and blocking doors with your body so the gunman can shoot THROUGH the door, and not being dumb enough to let him RELOAD THREE TIMES as you do worring about worthless dogs, maybe you would stop falling down when the bad guy is chasing you. Dogs are worthless.
