R. Kelly Trial Postponed ... Again

R. KellyR.Kelly has once again had his trial postponed, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Jury selection was set to begin September 17. Five years ago, Kelly was charged with 14 counts of child pornography.

No future date has been announced. There's a gag order in the case -- so all we could find out is that there's a hearing on Sept. 10. Purpose unknown. Stay tuned!

17. Maybe Micheal Jackson should have had R. Kelly's lawyers! Looks like another pedophile will be getting off. Damn!

18. Total celebrity justice. My a-hole bro-in-law got busted July '06 for 4 counts of the same thing. He leaves for prison next Thursday, even with delays.

19. Anyone here remember the days he had no.1 hit after no.1 for what seemed like weeks on end? Seriously he has way too much talent to be locked away in the slammer.

20. I am not by any means sticking up for R Kelly, but maybe you should read as to why the trial was postponed...it's due to the DA recently having a baby, it's was postponed at one time cause the judge fell off a ladder, and another time R was in the hospital...I don't think celebrity justice is to blame here...he is a low life scum however!!!

21. Ricardo - so you are advocating no rules or laws for talented people?

What color is the sky in your world?

23. Is it true that the girl R Kelly assaulted is now an AARP member?

24. He's guilty - hell the tape's been out for years now - but it's not stopping him from topping the charts with his music. People are buying his music.

Why is that?

25. THE PROSECUTION KEEPS ASKING FOR POSTPONEMENTS, NOT R. KELLY'S LAWYERS.
MY OPINION IS IF THE DA HAD A SOLID CASE IT WOULD HAVE GONE TO TRIAL LONG AGO..THE FACT IS THEY DON'T HAVE A POSITIVE ID ON THE GIRL IN THE VIDEO..THE GIRL THEY QUESTIONED DENIES IT WAS HER, AS DOES HER FAMILY..THEY DON'T HAVE A SOLID TIME FRAME EITHER, THEY ARE SAYING SOMETIME BETWEEN 1998 AND 2001, IF THEY DON'T HAVE A PROVEN IDENTITY OR AGE OF THE GIRL, THEY ARE BASING THE CASE ON OUTSIDE WITNESS ACCOUNTS ONLY..THE AUTHORITIES IN CHICAGO ARE NOT FANS OF R. KELLY, THEY WOULD LOVE TO TAKE HIM DOWN, THE FACT IS THEY DON'T HAVE SOLID EVIDENCE.
I ACTUALLY THINK IT'S UNFAIR TO DRAG THIS OUT 5 YEARS, WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ENTITLED TO A SPEEDY TRIAL IN THIS COUNTRY.

26. Celebrity Justice? Not really. Anyone with deep pockets can afford to hire the best legal representation. They are well paid to do just what is being done here. So, you don't have to be famous, just well-off. Wage earners such as myself would be in and out of the slammer by now (it's been five years!), as a fully registered sex offender.

27. i think they're trying to push it back until the statute of limitations goes into effect.
this is a sad, dirty situation....i don't trust our law system to make the right decisions when it comes to celebrities.

28. Trapped In The Closet? Trapped In The Courtroom is more like it.

29. Patty,

R. Kelly's people would have had to agreed to waive the speedy trial provision for this to drag on this long.

Posted at 3:40PM on Sep 4th 2007 by Merz

30. Patty, furthermore....

A speedy trial benefits the accused when the the prosecution's case is weak. (Get it over with before thany more evidence surfaces.) Dragging it out benefits the accused when the case is strong and they want time to try to keep evidence out, or for public outcry to die down.
