Who Is the Latest Michael Vick Defender??

You'll never guess who the latest person is to jump into the Michael Vick defense fray!!

It's Whoopi!

On her first day as "The View's" moderator, Goldberg made a big splash -- more like a big splat --playing apologist for confessed dogfighting kingpin Michael Vick's canine torturing, explaining that dogfighting was "part of his cultural upbringing."

Much to the obvious dismay of "View"-mates Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Goldberg suggested that Vick might not have known that he was doing a viciously horrific thing with his dogfighting ring. "You know, from his background, this is not an unusual thing for where he comes from," said the redundant Whoopi.

Not content to perpetuate stereotypes about Southerners and dogfighting, Goldberg also likened Vick and his outrage to the Chinese and eating cats. "People would not like it if we ate kitty," she said.

541. She would know about the kitty but regardless I'm sure she thinks O.J. is innocent too. Can anyone be honest instead of lone-sided. As far as the cultural upbring goes...try a little education maybe.

545. Dan #537 we will all pay huge consequences in the long run. According to PETA what Michael Vick did was a fraction as bad.. to what we are doing to the our enviroment. On a recent article PETA and scientists believe global warming threatens the lives of millions of humans. One of the biggest contributor is raising and feeding animals for food which is one of the largest source of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide emissions. Feeding animals and killing them, processing, transporting, and storing flesh is extremely energy-intensive. All this is done for our consumption..so they suggest we go Vegan. So we all as a society are screwed.. not just Vick.

547. In response to some people here: Whoopi never denied that what he did wasn't illegal..or that he didn't deserve punishment for it. She merely said it should not surprise anyone given his "background". Thats all.

I'm so not on board with the chinese stereotype though.

551. GET A LIFE WHOOPI!! A cultural thing??? Okay, so I guess it would be a cultural thing to lynch you for saying that??? Didn't people do that in the south a long time ago?? HMM??? That was a "cultural" thing too right? Stupid, stupid woman! Anybody who would torture and kill an innocent animal doesn't deserve to have any respect or rights in this world! I hope they put Vick away for good! Whoopi, you can visit him in jail!

552. part of his culture. part of his upbringing. sooo....does it apply if you were brought up in a culture that believed in bigamy, even though it's against the law? if you were brought up in a culture that believes that women are chattel and it's all right to beat them? if your neighbor was sexually abused as a child, and was being prosecuted for abusing YOUR child, would it be okay for Whoppi to shrug and say, it's part of his or her upbringing and culture? or how about if your neighbor was brought up in a culture that thought it was okay to throw trash out their windows, and to never mow their lawn, and to keep a refrigerator on their porch, even after he or she moved into your nice neighborhood, would you just shrug and say it's just part of his culture and upbringing?
if criminal activity and cruelty are part of your culture, i suggest you go someplace where your activites are legally and socially acceptable.

553. I think we are confusing racial culture with economic culture (that is the only logical connection I can make to the comments on racism). In poorer neighborhoods both rural (not necessarily "South") and urban (not necessarily "Ghetto"), it is not uncommon to break up dog fighting rings. There was a major bust in my city just this past summer with dozens of dogs being put to sleep. It is illegal and wrong. So are drugs and frequently we hear of people participating in that culture despite it being illegal and wrong. It is more common for people who were exposed to an illegal activity (as a form of entertainment--perceived minimal consequence) to participate in that activity. Michael Vick performed a immature and heinous act and will be punished. It is not worse than teachers having sex with children, a woman being kidnapped and abused, racial intimidation on college campuses, hundreds dying daily at war, or even the far reaching impact of professional referees on "the take."

554. Oh Whoopi, how sad...It makes me sick for all the abused "creatures" four legged or two, who's abuse, gets passed over for the raciest/regional excuse. And I am so tired of people jumping all over the good supporters of HSUS and Peta for rallying around the cause when it has finally gotten some mass support. These groups have done massive studies on animal, child, elder and spouse abuse for years. It takes a lot to press any kind of charges for animal abuse. If these charges went this far on a celebrity, you better believe they had a lot to back it up legally. And yes the rednecks in OH get prosecuted for animal fighting just as much as pig/dog fighting in the south. The animal rights activist are the kind of people who would be the 1st ones to try to abolish slavery and elder abuse and abuse of all types. Oh yeah, if you don't support him, then get rid of the dog looking like he's going to fight tee shirt you had on! Sincerely a humane society worker.
