PETA Gives Whoopi a Whuppin'!

Whoopi is the new Rosie on "The View," in more ways than one! Day one, and she's already pissed off a whole lotta people, including animal rights group PETA. Goldberg defended Michael Vick by saying there are things that are "indicative to certain parts of our country," ... meaning the South.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk fired off an email to Whoopi that very politely said just how ignorant Whoopi's statement was. "I think a lot of people who live and work in the South -- as PETA does -- will not appreciate the "view" that cruelty to dogs is an accepted Southern pastime. Those who fight dogs do so in New York, Chicago, and even the Republic of The View -- click to launchIreland, and what unites them is lawlessness and callousness, not whether they eat grits or Belgian waffles for breakfast." Newkirk went on to say that "animals are as vulnerable to abuse as children are, and they need your voice more than Vick does right now." Whoops!

UPDATE: On today's "View" Whoopi said she was "not condoning" Vick's actions. It sure sounded as though she was making excuses for them.

76. It's not a racial/cultural "thing". It's a CRUELTY "thing". It has been with us since the beginning of time. Wether it's towards animals,children, or people who are vulnerable, it's all the same. Some people for some SICK reason ENJOY inflicting cruelty. Happens during wars, happens in every country, in every race.

For Whoppi to say what she did she is saying black people from the south are like this. It's BS. It's everywhere. We have FREE WILL to choose to be who we are. Sicko's will choose cruelty, sane/caring people will be horrified by this behavior.

It's a psychological trait not a racial trait. Whoppi is uneducated and people in her position should know better. She's dumb, I was a fan ever since she did Continuum (yeah I'm a closet Trekkie) but she showed her ignorance on this one.

Some people just like to fight. They use race, religion etc as the excuse but deep down the are just cruel people. 6 vs 7.

Pitt the dogs against each other, meanwhile the cats take over. Why JM recruited Keys. JehWitness is False Ph. He promised to make her white if she did his dirty work but he made her as black as him. U2 Vertigo - "All this can be yours, just give me what I want and no one gets hurt". He's got no power to give, IT'S A LIE. His way everyone gets hurt. Bin Laden is not Jesus. BL is JM / AK. 79. It's becoming apparent Whoopi will defend anyone who is black no matter what!! I'm from the north but have been living in the south for 3 years now and not once have I heard that dog fighting is a passtime down here. Absolutely ridiculous. Think before you SHARE YOUR VIEW, Whoopi.

81. In defense of Whoppi, she is a huge contributor to the North Shore Animal league and quite the animal lover. I think she only said those words to stir controversy on the show ala Rosie. I don't believe she really believes what she said.

82. To all of you condoning Vick's actions, that "just a damn dog" comment doesn't fly. Adults put themselves in situations. It's their choice and they have to live with the consequences of their actions. Children and animals don't have that choice. They depend on us adults to care for them. People who abuse either are monsters that don't deserve any rights entitled to the rest of us. Facts show that people who abuse animals, usually go on to children and adults later. Better to get Vick off the streets now, huh?

83. Whoopie, you BLEW IT on that one. Your saying there are things that are "indicative to certain parts of our country," ... meaning the South is equal to Britney using the excuse of not seat belting in her child due to, We're Southern Y'all. My Dad originally was from Texas and he didn't abuse animals. Saying that dog fighting is southern is very insulting to southerners and just plain ignorant. There's things that are indicative to Africa, like female genital mutilation....so is she saying that should continue?
