PETA Gives Whoopi a Whuppin'!

Whoopi is the new Rosie on "The View," in more ways than one! Day one, and she's already pissed off a whole lotta people, including animal rights group PETA. Goldberg defended Michael Vick by saying there are things that are "indicative to certain parts of our country," ... meaning the South.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk fired off an email to Whoopi that very politely said just how ignorant Whoopi's statement was. "I think a lot of people who live and work in the South -- as PETA does -- will not appreciate the "view" that cruelty to dogs is an accepted Southern pastime. Those who fight dogs do so in New York, Chicago, and even the Republic of The View -- click to launchIreland, and what unites them is lawlessness and callousness, not whether they eat grits or Belgian waffles for breakfast." Newkirk went on to say that "animals are as vulnerable to abuse as children are, and they need your voice more than Vick does right now." Whoops!

UPDATE: On today's "View" Whoopi said she was "not condoning" Vick's actions. It sure sounded as though she was making excuses for them.

115. If Whoopi Goldberg thinks what Michael Vick did was ok because it was "part of his cultural upbringing" then was slavery ok because it was "part of the cultural upbringing" of the south??? Needless killing of animals is wrong - it doesn't matter what color you are or where you are from.

Come on, Whoopi, if Michael Vick was white, would you feel the same way??

117. Dr Phil summed up my opinon of Whoopi's sick comment on Vick's treatment of dogs!!! When he appeared on the Tonight Show Friday night with Jay Leno. It looks like Barbara Walter's and her other co-host's share the same opinion as Whoopi, as they never spoke up in defence of animal crulety. I can't believe the network doesn't fire Whoopi or cancel the The View!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They must also agree with cruelty to dogs!!!!!!!!! I will no longer watch The View

118. Yesterday my four year old little boy came running into the kitchen talking about a witch on TV. He had turned on The View. He thought Whoopi had on a false face and witch's costume. He thought it was Halloween. ABC and Barbara made a terrible decision in hiring Whoopi. She's ignorant, very uninteresting, interupts the other women (almost as bad as Rosie), ugliest woman on TV and wears gawd awful clothes. Is she such a dimwit that she doesn't know or care how she looks and acts?

119. I have to say, I was quite annoyed and shocked to read that PETA named the Republic of Ireland in its e-mail. Why single out Ireland? I understand the point it's trying to make, but, as far as I'm concerned, PETA is just as much to blame in the whole ordeal as Whoopi, as it has now, however inadvertently, given the beautiful Emerald Isle a reputation for this type of illegal behaviour. Why, out of all the other countries in the world, name only Ireland? Although I support PETA's work, I believe this statement was reckless and unnecessary.

120. ABC Needs to Fire Whoopi Immediately !!! It seems everyone has conveniently forgotten that several years ago Whoopi Goldberg totally TRASHED the National Anthem on an HBO special by inserting profanities (like M_____F____) nearly every other word throughout the song. In my opinion, this was a million times more offensive than what Don Imus did. ABC needs look into this and after reviewing the HBO Special for themselves, they need to immediately fire Whoopi from her new position on The View. Honestly, I don’t think ABC has enough courage to do so.
