"Top Chef" Contestant in Alleged Gay Bash

A former contestant on the hit Bravo reality show "Top Chef" was allegedly beaten by attackers yelling anti-gay slurs in an affluent part of Long Island.

Josie Smith-Malave, an openly gay woman and a contestant on the second season, says she was with a group of women who were asked to leave the bar Partners in tony Sea Cliff, NY over Labor Day weekend.

Smith-Malave's lawyer says about 10 young people followed the group of women and began hurling anti-gay epithets, spitting on them and then beating them. Nassau County police tell TMZ the incident is still under investigation.

Smith-Malave, originally a Miami native, was kicked off the show in episode 5. She once played on a team for the Independent Women's Football League.

16. As a gay dude I don't "condone" your heterosexual "lifestyle" but im sure as hell not going to go around beating people up or calling you names...people need to get a grip.

17. this is to poster #6...what the HELL does this have to do with Senator Craig? NOTHING!!! It sickens me to know that you dont seem to give a CRAP that a group of women were beaten because of thier lifestyle choices.....all you care about is that you have a chance to degrade someone....be it a Senator or a civilian. You are disgusting

18. I HAVE A 55 YEAR OLD 2ND COUSIN WHO IS GAY AND HAS BEEN WITH HIS PARTNER SINCE THEY WERE 17 YEARS OLD.....WHAT THEY DO INSIDE THEIR HOUSE IS THEIR BUISNESS....IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE PEOPLE INSIDE OF THEM. IT'S SO SAD WHEN THIS KIND OF THINGS HAPPEN AND I HOPE THEY GET THOSE PEOPLE. FOR MEN ITS OK TO LOOK AT HOTTTTT SEXXXXY LESBIANS BUT IF THEY AREN'T ATTRACTIVE THEN ITS DISGUSTING....SOCIETY NEEDS TO GET OVER IT......I HEARD ONE GUY ONCE SAY I THINK ITS DISGUSTING WHAT GOES ON IN THEIR HOUSE.......WHY DO YOU CARE AND SECOND OF ALL YOU DON'T WATCH THEM. ITS SAD THAT NOW IN 2007 THAT THIS KIND OF STUFF HAPPENS AND NONE OF IT WILL CHANGE UNLESS SOCIETY GETS ITS ACT TOGETHER!!!!

20. This is exactly what you'd expect from Long Island idiots. Once a guinea, always a guinea.

21. One thing no one is mentioning is it stated "she was with a group of women who were asked to leave the bar" I want to know why THEY were asked to leave the bar. It was probably a situation where a bunch of butch lesbians were acting tough and simply got what they asked for. Eveybody who gets there ass kick isn't always a victim. You want to act like a man that's your right. But don't cry victim when someone comes along and treats you like one.

22. So not nice! Has anyone noticed that instead of going forwards with our society, instead we are going backwards?! There seem to be more violence against race and certain lifestyles of people! It's very disturbing!

23. I've unfortunately been to Partners, it's the most div-iest, disgusting place anyone could ever hang out in. The place itself is trouble who's patrons include white trash and a lot of drug addicts. I'm surprise it's lasted in the "land of no" (Sea Cliff). I'm sorry she went to this place and got attacked, I'm sure she didn't know what the place was like beforehand. This place does not belong in Sea Cliff, the quaintest little town you've ever been too!

24. Keep slamming your political correctness into peoples faces, and there is bound to
be a backlash. Every TV show, commercial, newspapers, magazines, at work, "don't say that", "you can't say that, you'll hurt his feelings". I thought majority rules, if 9 out of 10 people say the sun is yellow-orange, then it was yellow-orange. Now, if one person says its purple, well, you have to understand them, we don't want to hurt their feelings, I can kinda see purple in there!!! Not saying it's right, but, keep pushing, I think this is only the beginning, there are a lot of angry people out there working 50-60 hours a week, not only tired of carrying everyone else, but getting really tired of all the whining!!

25. Have you ever noticed that the liberal left, says, that we are the people that listen to
everyone, include everyone, and embrace everyone.........unless you disagree with them. The liberal left being the "caring" people, has to be the biggest fraud to have gone on the country in years. Go ahead an test it out, bring up a subject, take the opposite side, and watch them freak out and tell you what is right and wrong!!

26. Wait for the whole story for justification in physically harming somebody? Did we not just observe 9/11 yesterday? Try looking at our government & the war we are in. Be upset about that. Put your energy to good use, enlist and go defend our country. A hate crime is a hate crime. I am sorry that anyone has to go through that. Who is evolved here?

28. Those who think being homosexual is a "lifestyle" are ignorant. Living in Miami Beach is a lifestyle... being gay is biology. Smart people know that.

29. It is so hard to believe this is the year 2007 and there are still people so farking ignorant they will physically harm another person because they are gay.

Yup that is progress in our society.

30. There's one major piece of information being left out of all the news reports, what led to Josie and her party being asked to leave? Two women dancing usually aren't asked to leave a bar unless they are causing a problem. Same for being attacked outside of a bar by people who weren't asked to leave. With this happening on Sept 1st, I'm guessing we're not going to hear the entire story, just the resulting lawsuit again the bar and police department by Josie and co.

If they did nothing to cause the beating, I hope they toss everyone involved in jail. But, if they instigated it, gay or not, they got what they deserved.
