GLAAD to Ja Rule -- You Da Problem, Homey!

Ja RuleRapper Ja Rule recently made the following asinine statement in Complex Magazine about what he thinks is really causing the downfall of society, "...lets talk about all these f***ing shows that they have on MTV that is promoting homosexuality, that my kids can't watch this s**t. Dating shows that's showing two guys or two girls in mid afternoon. Let's talk about s**t like that! If that's not f***ing up America, I don't know what is." Um, how 'bout gun violence, poverty and a broken health care system?!

Get GLAAD's statement, after the jump.

In response to Ja's homophobic remarks, GLAAD issued the following statement:

"No fair-minded person can look at JaRule's interview with Complex Magazine and believe for one second that his children could be more harmed by what they might see on television than by the vulgarity and prejudice that comes out of their father's mouth. Now that media have seen JaRule's intolerance unmasked by his own words, they have a responsibility not to provide in the future a platform for his ugly, vulgar displays of prejudice." Word!

31. I'm not racist by any means but I don't want my kids or my nephews watching shows that promote homosexuality. I don't even want to see that!

32. Okay, first off, I agree that people shouldn't be on television, pratically having sex. But, that doesn't disclude heterosexual couples, either. Homosexuals should have the same rights as heterosexuals, but either way, neither should be having sex during dinner time. MTV does praise drama-inducing things, but that's the way it has ALWAYS been. The Real World depicted this, and that show aired in the 90's; Way before Ja Rule started making videos and having them aired on the same channel he's downcasting.

Race has NOTHING to do with it. However, rap does have a lot of drug references/violence/crime in them, which is adding ignorance to children everywhere. Just like country singers like to whine about alcohol, rappers make rhymes with drugs, and rockers mosh to songs about anarchy. But, what should we do? Whine about the damn problems people are portraying, or spend the time we would have been b*tchin' and teach our kids better? It's simply common sense.

Common fact is, use your parental controls on your television and block MTV from playing... isn't that what the damn feature was made for?

33. I find it amusing that people decide to post comments defending homophobia in the name of a Constitutional right to the "freedom of speech," especially when this so-called freedom has as its most basic premise the abstract enslavement of sexual ideologies. The foundless and hypocritical prejudice of the "moral majority" is the same prejudice that both legalized and held steadfast the enslavement of African Americans for decades. Why is it that physical shackles are intolerable but psychological and ideological chains are justifiable?

34. The man is an idiot...if he can call himself a man. No one is "shoving" anything down anyones throat. If you see something on the television that you don't want to see, there is such a thing as changing the channel. To each his own right. Gay. Straight. Bi. Transgender. ETC...
People are People.

35. This is STILL America, and not Canada or England and people still have a right to freedom of speech, even if we don't like what they have to say. Grow up!

36. Ja Rule's "quote" is absolutely correct. This is a large problem with MTV and what they want youth America to think and believe.. I believe its also called brain washing.

37. AS I SEE IT - As I see it, you are uneducated. Going to church does not equal hating gays. The Bible says it is a sin.

38. Why does this have to turn into a black and white issue. Ja Rule is an uneducated person who made an ignorant comment that is completely hypocritical considering the music he makes, (or used to make). Why is he called a stupid black person and not just a stupid person. This idiot doesn't speak for all black people, and whoever posted that comment is just as ignorant and closed minded as Ja Rule.

39. I agree with JaRule, we have a right to our opinon just as GLAAD & PETA do. Unfortunately his use of curse words takes away from that. I agree that speaking that way is just as harmful to children, along with the other harmful things TMZ mentioned. There's a way to disagree with one's lifestyle without hatred. My child learned this in preschool...I like you but I don't agree with what you're doing.

40. I think rappers like JaRule and those who condone gun violence and cop killers in their videos and also the ruling of woman and the likes, who spat words that they and the world consider vulgar, should clean up thier acts before coming out against anything else.. Cmon guys, you know we have to clean up our music and the way we talk before we can talk of others.. Before you speak, look in the mirror and see yourself before you speak of others.. think of your own children and see how you would want them to be, Lets hope JaRule's kids dont come to him in years and tell him their gay or lesbian.. I wonder what they would be in turned to be thought of!!!

42. His kids shouldn’t watch these shows? How about young children shouldn’t watch MTV period, and that’s up to the PARENTS responsibility to sensor their child’s entertainment. But that's what's really bad for his kids?!?!? How about, his kids shouldn't hear his violent, sexist songs, or even him speaking, or try to speak for that matter. How about he learns some proper English before he speaks on what's right for America. Ignorant, illiterate bastard.

43. Ja Rules! TMZ, Poverty and gun violence? Give me a break. The poor in Somalia don't have cable televison and welfare. Gun violence? That is a bit of a steroytype of the African-American community.
The majority of Americans are tired of seeing guys kissing on the news.

44. Hey #2, Doubletrouble. Thanks to TMZ, I have a place to "Roost". But guess what? Even though I think Da rule is a uneducated moron, he makes a good point about MTV and their programing. There is no place for them homosexuals that thar TV. Now as for Da Rule. he's just a stupid blah blah, blah blah, blah blah, blah blah. And that's all I have to say.

45. Hey, everyone has a right to be who they want to be and to love what and whom they want to. If you choose to love rap, it's stupid to degrade people who love, say rock or metal music. Yes, the rap industry IS ruining kids of today, I saw my brother go through it when all his friends made fun of him for liking my sort of music (metal and rock) and called it PUNK. Firstly, not only is there swearing, but kids learn, FROM these songs, about drugs and money as well as using women as a sex object (sometimes to make their VIDEOS look cool). My brother actually wanted to try MARIJUANA and has already tried a cigarette (before even being 13).

What do I do when I hear this kind of rap music? I change the channel.

So for those who don't want their kids or themselves to see gay things on TV, look! There's the remote! CHANGE THE DAMN CHANNEL! See? Problem solved! You don't have to watch gay people.
