182. I'd like to add that while reviewing more of these comments a theme appears to unfold; those of you who decry the arrest of this young man do so on the basis of protected speech. Now this is a powerful argument but I'm struck by how many of these same people explicitly call for the freedom to name call. Now the issue of freedom of speech is of fundamental and paramount importance I find it hard to shake the notion that these people feel the need to name call and defend it as a right. To those of you I would ask; Is it really important to you that you be able to call other people names? Do you feel that it's important for you to be able to call people names? And if so why? Do you think that certain legal behaviors in society need to be singled out for shame and retribution? And particularly do you feel that it's important that YOU, as an individual, should be able to engage in this behavior? Do you feel that you're saving society from an unseen or under appreciated menace and in doing so that you are "saving" the rest of us? Because the rest of us don't seem to see the need. Would you be happier if you could all form your own nation with strict eligibility requirements? These are all important questions in understanding not only the what, but the why, of behavior like this.

185. I agree that most of the things which people say they detest most, are the very things which people are having internal conflict. Gay bashing, making fun of Christians, Islam, Jews etc.. is as a result of people not being understanding of others being able to come to terms with their own inner conflict in their own way. I want to make something clear because most of the responses to my last posting seem to be accusatory towards my own biased views on sexual preference. I have come to terms with my own feminine qualities as well as my masculine qualities. I have a few homosexual friends who are actually nicer and more understanding than my straight friends. I've even joked with my homosexual friends about them being gay and they crack derogatory jokes right back at me (then we make out for a while). My point is simply this, beating someone up because of their race, creed, religion, sexual preference etc is more than lame... but you have to understand that every crime is a hate crime and expressing hatred verbally should not constitute a crime, even if it is something as stupid as this. I still say throw him in prison for the assault and robbery, just don't compound the sentence out of respect for the first amendment. Speech is not a crime.

186. Bill, you can't speak for all straights, most of them probably don't want anything to do with the likes of you. I'm gay, and am very offended that you keep pushing that "gays" want to be able to molest kids. Sorry, but the majority of pedophiles are self-identified heterosexuals. Why can't we ALL fight pedophilia? It's a sick crime. It's a shame that someone has filled your head full of so many lies, I feel very sorry for you. It's a tough life to live being filled with hate, I can't imagine it. I'm lucky that I have amazing friends, most of whom are heterosexual, and they all love me for the person that I am, period. 189. you know i spent 2 yrs. 67/68 fighting oppression in the leech filled rice paddys and the jungles of viet nam to give that young woman the right to choose her gender preference, and for the boy to say what he thinks, but when he crosses the line to the extent that he thinks he has the right to put so much as one hand on any woman he should be put in his place! Preferably by a man kicking his little pimply faced ass up between his shoulder blades!!!! I only hope the judge sees it my way. GOD BLESS AND BRING OUR YOUNG MEN HOME TO THERE LOVED ONES.

Sharurotto, if there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea offensive or disagreeable. As I have stated I dislike the use of derogatory terms. You calling some one, "Bill" as a derogatory term for an independent conservative might be considered a hate crime if the rest of the US considered conservatives a minority. To illustrate your points on hate, I have not gotten personal and you have. If I am to follow your logic model, does that not mean you yourself are an in the closet conservative Bible thumper?
