Celebrity Feuds
Babwa to Barry -- We've Got Hassel's Back

"View" den mother Barbara Walters says that as much as she wanted Barry Manilow to come and croon, no one -- not even the "Mandy" singer -- tells her how to run her show!

Manilow told TMZ yesterday that he decided to ditch his appearance on today's "View," because as a close friend of Rosie O'Donnell, he didn't want to sit on the same stage as right-winger Elisabeth Hasselbeck, whose views he called "dangerous." Babwa, on her Sirius radio chatfest last night, said it was "too bad" about Barry's stand. Added co-executive producer Bill Geddie, "We don't do that ... we support everybody ... he's not going to call the shots."

Geddie also pointed out that lefty celeb political flamethrowers like Susan Sarandon and Jane Fonda have also appeared with Elisabeth, and it sure looked like everyone was having a pretty good time last November when Manilow appeared on the show.

316. Barry Manilow has a perfect right to not want to be around Elisabeth. She makes my skin crawl when I have watched her on the show. There is no one more disgusting on daytime tv than Elisabeth Hasselback except for the times that Ann Coulter shows up somewhere. Coulter makes even Elisabeth look and sound good If Elisabeth even knew a fraction of what she was talking about it would not be so bad, but she does not. She babbles and gabbles and gets louder and louder. How her husband can stand her is beyond me, and how Barbara Walters can continue to keep E.H. on the show is a travesty.

319. OMG! Barry Manilow needs to grow up. I love his music but just because he's a friend of Rosie's ( to which I personally dont like) doesnt give him the right to blow off The View.

I have always thought they did. IMO. :)

322. I think Barry Manilow is ridiculous. He may disagree with Elisabeth but he has no right to try and keep her from an appearance on her own show. If he is so concenred about "dangerous" political opinions he had better question his own. I don't agree with many of Elisabeth's political opinions but Iit is her right, as an American, to state them. If Barry only; wants to hear his own ideas than he should talk t o himself!
As for Elisabeth, she has behaved with dignity and good humor in the fact of the nasty behaviour by Rosie and her pals!!

323. Get a grip, Barry - you're not THAT important!!! I'll take Elizabeth over that nut-case Rosie ANY day! I'm glad "The View" didn't let the little prissy a$$ call the shots on this!

324. IF all of you want Elizabeth to go, why don't they get Ann Coulter to fill in, at least while she's on maternity leave. I would be very interested to see some of the verbal exchanges she would bring to "The View".

325. There is more at work here than simply Barry Manilow standing up for his "beliefs".

Barry Manilow was booked to appear on the View months ago. Yet he "announced" that he is refusing to be on the show, at the last minute, to protect his values. Why not just graciously decline? Because creating controversy makes news and draws attention to the fact he has a record to promote. As a marketing professional I can tell you...this is strickly a high profile marketing strategy to get Barry Manilow in the news at a time when he would just otherwise be a mention in the side rail or a fixture on a late night talk/variety show.

News Flash Barry Manilow: Stand up for your beliefs and values at a time when it won't actually benefit you financially. Perhaps then I'll pay attention. For me, this is all much ado about nothing...coincidentially that is what I will pay for your music.

326. I only glanced briefly at some of the other comments. I wanted to comment on the article, mainly Bill Geddie's comments on November, as well as, the comments in regards to Susan Sarandon and Jane Fonda's appearance on the view.

Honestly they seem to be doing a lot of back paddling. It would be nice that they would themselves admit that right now Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a touchy subject with a lot of people. I don't believe that Barry Manilow was trying to tell them how to run their show. I don't believe that he felt that he had that much power to try to do something like that. You know that all he requested was to be directly interviewed by someone else. That could have been easily accommodated as more and more people are really getting tired of hearing her speak lately.

November, well, Mr. Geddie, a lot has happened since November. Mrs Hasslebeck has not necessary acted professionally. She has made a lot of the public uncomfortable with exactly what Mr. Mannilow stated, her views are dangerous in the way that she presents them. It's not the views themselves..... she alienates a lot of people, more than 50% of the country by the last election, by how she attacts liberal views.

Also, in regards to the interview with Susan Sarandon, I watched very carefully. First off, I got the impression that Ms. Hasslebeck was trying to kiss some hind end everytime that she spoke to Susan Sarandon. I also got the uncomfortable feeling from Sarandon that she too wasn't that comfortable answering her questions. I recall Hasslebeck bringing up the fact that their opinions were different, but Sarandon was known for finding the truth. What was that all about...... was she sutbly trying to admit that her opinions on the bush administration has been like looking through ROSE colored glasses? I personally felt uncomfortable watching her interview Susan Sarandon. I know that Susan can definetely hold her own, but why should we the public be subjected to Mrs. Hasslebecks attempt at trying to come off in a different light.

I didn't see the episode with Jane Fonda. So I can not state an opinion on that.

I just get uncomfortable watching Hasslebeck interview anyone whose opinion is different than hers. For one, I feel like she is trying to hang on to public support by caving in and kiss butt while she is talking with them, but the next morning on hot topics she is stupidly spilling out a more ballsy opinion. I guess honestly I don't like her interviewing anyone. I don't think that she has the intelligence to offer anything that I personally want to see in an interview.

I honestly wish that they would get rid of her. I wish that they would find someone with that conservative opinion that even the conservatives would feel more comfortable listening too. Listening to Hasslebeck keeps me in my liberal world just because she sounds so ignorant.

Thanks for the vent.

327. Was Donald Trump right when he said Elizabeth Hasselback is the most ignorant person on tv?

Come on, Barry Manilow is a DIVA. His facelift looks good on him and the pancake makeup really works on television. Maybe he's jealous that Elizabeth is prettier than he is and can't stand the competition. We all know how divas are. LOL :o)

328. Maybe Barry Manilow (BM) needs to take a good BM. He acts like a constipated old woman.

329. Isn't it time for for the factless opionated Hasselback, to do something worthy of her talents like HMMM , Say , I Know ! The Heathers Part II The Older , Not so Cute and All Jacked Up....

Posted at 8:32PM on Sep 24th 2007 by John

330. I'm so proud of "The View" for not letting Manilow dictate the way the show was going to be run. Who do you think you are, Barry? Do that little "Bandstand" ditty again, please? NOT!
