51. I am not against using Spanish on TMZ.com, and I find the people who freaked out about it to be intolerant and hateful by their comments. HOWEVER, I believe the posting should have included English because it is, as another poster said, like speaking a foreign language in a room where only one or two other people can understand it... it's rude without translation.

By the way, being racist and being anti-illegal-immigrant are two different things.

I fully support legal immigration, and wish I could be non-prejudiced about folks I meet who speak Spanish as their first language. It has nothing to do with race, although latino/hispanic etc is not actually a race, they're as white as my Italian/Polish/Lithuanian heritage. The problem is I live in Arizona, where those who speak Spanish as a primary language are largely illegal, and cause a real hardship for our economy and social structure. It was worse when I lived in New Mexico.

I realize at this time that the immigration system is so messed up that it's hard to legally immigrate into the US. But with that $5,000 the "illegals" pay the smugglers, I'm sure they could hire a lawyer that would get them into the country legally, even if it might take a little longer. Those who DO immigrate legally are intensely critical of the illegal aliens because everything the illegal aliens do undermines their struggle for citizenship.

Imagine if those people who pay smugglers could band together and pool their money for good legal representation, rather than pool it to pay to a scumbag who lets them die of exposure in the desert. That's JMO.

Having said all that, I do believe that this is America and all immigrants who wish to become citizens should speak English and we shouldn't have lots of bilingual stuff all over the place, because it undermines the desire of the immigrant to truly become a citizen. The same as I find "Chinatown" in various cities to be contrary to the best interests of the immigrant when signs and so forth are in the native language. There aren't street signs in Polish and Italian in the coal mining towns I grew up in. Immigrants at that time worked very hard to learn English and become well-rounded citizens.

Well, I am sorry-I cannot speak for the Spaniards, but statistically speaking, the majority of the "Spanish" speakers over here have very limited skills and education and that is just a fact, whether you choose to believe it or not. So, no, I have no intention of being forced to learn the bastardized language of some illiterates just to accomodate them, because they are either too lazy and/or stupid to learn English in the first place-

Which begs the question, WHY would I want to have anything to do with these people to begin with?

As for the Italian grape stompers, I can only assume they are from the south of Italy, up in the hills, far away from industry. No-one who speaks the real Italian can understand their dialect anyway-and why would they even want to?
