47. I assume he died quietly.

48. Amen, Leah! I never knew the impact he had during the War or that he lost his father at Auschwitz. Probably because he and his generation weren't media whores like the "celebrities" of today. He overcame so much. People who want to mock him and make stupid "silence is deafening" and "bet he went quietly" jokes (FIBiker, especially) deserve a swift kick to the head. Losers. Like your lives will ever compare!

52. Imagine that...TMZ giving space to a true, deserving, inspirational talent instead of drunken skanks squat-shotting for the camera or washed-up, tattooed drummer has-beens trying to get air time on ET...Thanks.
Excusez-moi, Monsieur Marceau...restez calme. Merci pour tous.

54. I met MM in TOkyo in 1993, he gave a lecture at a cultural center there one night, and it lasted 3 hours, he could not stop talking. A great great man. RIP, BIP!
55. Another of the world's greatest artists dies... I remember fondly the two times I saw him perform, the man was a true entretainer and performer, as well as a great human being. Godspeed Marceau, you will be missed.

57. I find it interesting how deeply Marceau commands respect and admiration even now. Like one blogger mentioned - he and his generation were not media whores. People like Jimmy Stewart, David Niven, Greta Garbo, Glenn Miller, Harpo Marx and others either put on a uniform and served their country with courage and distinction, or else they went incognito as agents and couriers, and helped out during the war on behalf of the Allies.
That generation saw the dangers of anti-semitism, fascism and the danger it represented while the current generation applaud and welcome murderous bastards such as Ahmadinejad.
Courage and vision versus arrogance and willful blindness. Selflessness versus selfishness. Then and now.
Encore merci, M. Marceau. Condolences to your family.

58. I had the pleasure of being married to a woman who studied with Marcel Marceau. I remember when I first saw Marceau and I found him to be absolutely magical as a stage performer and mime. Marcel Marceau was an artist on the order of Chaplin... and was a man of DEEP artistic wealth. The world has lost a gem... and REAL artist. Marceau was a RARE gift, a special man and a GREAT PERFORMER who entertained the entire world. Long live Bip!!!
