Britney Spears doesn't have a lot of people left in her corner these days, but should she ever need it, she can count on support from ... Ben Stein?


The former presidential speechwriter/game show host was outside of Mr. Chow and he couldn't have been more thrilled to talk to TMZ about Britney. Stein called Britney a "real authentic American," saying, "She gives her kids Doritos instead of carrots, just like every other American."

In what America is Ben Stein living? The deep South?

16. first of all it is very sad about britt losing her kids it is indeed an unfair situation. but why the nasty cut down on people that live in the south. I get really tired of people (X17 included) taking little wise cracks about us southerners. Just because we are from the south and talk very southern we are not stupid people. Nor is it a southern thing to give kids doritos. so save that line for someone else. You are the ignorant ones for ever saying stupid stuff like that. maybe you need to take a trip to the south to see just the type of people we are. So once again keep the wise cracks about us southerners to yourself or some southerners will love to kick your citified ass!

17. Ben just won his own money!! Yes, I'm sure that he is being very sarcastic, but, he IS telling the truth. So all of the hundreds and thousands of fast restaurants are for Britney and her kids? Come on people!! Believe nothing you read and believe only half of what you see!!

Leave Britney alone she is a good person, and right now she needs her space to deal with all the problems that she has... maybe that is why she has so many problems because no one will leave her alone. She is a good person even Justin Timberlake says so. This all makes me sad because she is not stable and she could end up doing something really bad this time, something that no one can save her from and she could be gone like Anna Nicole or someone like that. Do we all really want that or could we just leave the poor girl alone.

20. I agree with several of the comments above, as much as I love TMZ, you all need to stop painting the portrait that those of us from the Deep South are trashy and uneducated. It is discrimination, and I find it highly offensive. I was born in Mississippi, and that is where my roots are. I am unashamed of being from the South.

Don't let Britney be your example of a Southerner. Really, at this point, she has lived most of her life outside of Louisiana. After going to college in Louisiana (at LSU), I can say that we were embarassed to have to claim her. When she showed up at a football game at LSU in 2002, she was booed by the students when her name was announced at half-time.

So, please, stop with the disparaging remarks about the South.

24. Ben Stein is a fool. However, his remarks were tongue-in-cheek and spot-on.

Hey, I'm an ex-Southerner. I know the South. I know it well enough to know to GET THE HELL OUT as soon as I could. The South and the Flyover States are the nation's cholesterol- and stupidity-choked Heartland, all right. Highest divorce rates, highest violent crime rates, highest infant mortality rates, highest reliance on Federal money from the coastal states to assist their shiftless citizens....

And the highest obesity rates. Mississippi: 31% of adults obese! West Virginia: 30% of adults obese! Alabama: 29% of adults obese!.... Shall I go on? If the kids aren't being shoveled Doritos, what is it? Handfuls of LARD?!

25. Cajunboy I would rather eat a little lard along with my :fresh: vegetalbes than suck the heads of Crayfish. I live in the South and do not get assistance and am not overweight. Look around, there are obese people everywhere. It hasn't got a thing to do with where you live. Statistics can be adjusted to fit anything you want them too.

Good gosh, look around California and the ridiculous clones walking around stoned out of their minds. California is the second armpit of America and quickly rising to the number one spot. 28. College Educated Southerner - Ditto on the annoying Southern references! Britney hasn't even lived in the South since she was pimped off to Disney and I don't believe she even has a trace of a Southern accent.

Please stop it, TMZ!

I grew up in California and moved to Georgia to years ago - and there are just as many fat ignorant people per capita, in CA.

PS: I don't agree with Ben Stein's politics but he is a brilliant man and comedian. Obviously, he went over TMZ's head.
