Jury Finds Isiah Thomas Liable on Harassment Claims

UPDATE: The jury has just awarded $11.6 million in damages to Anucha Browne Sanders.

A federal jury has found that basketball legend Isiah Thomas sexually harassed a former New York Knicks executive.

The jury in the $10 million sexual harassment lawsuit deliberated a little over two days before deciding in favor of Anucha Browne Sanders.

The case, which has gripped New York, painted a picture of the Knicks' front office and Madison Square Garden as a place where sexism and crude language were commonplace.

Browne Sanders, a married mother of three and a former college basketball star at Northwestern University, testified that Thomas initially called her a "bitch" and a "ho" when she began working for the organization, and then began making unwanted advances toward her and encouraging her to visit him "off site."

Thomas denied all of Browne Sander's allegations, and his attorneys portrayed her as incompetent. Thomas did, however, acknowledge trying to kiss Browne Sanders in December 2005, asking her, "No love today?" when she recoiled. Garden President Steve Mills said he spoke with Thomas about the incident and was told it wouldn't happen again.

17. Assiah and his b***** James Dolan have destroyed the NY Knicks.....and I despise them for that. I am so sick and tired of undeserving, barely literate, idiots in positions of power (cough...Bush & Co) destroying everything in their wake. I just hope that they will all reap the disgusting consequences they have sewn........Will always love the Knicks though.

18. THERE IS A GOD!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!!! JUSTICE HAS BEEN DONE!!!!
He is a pig and I'm glad he's about to be bacon!!! He is a loser. He is two-faced!
When he own kid tried to see him and spend time with him Isiah couldn't be bothered.
The kid was on the honor roll, he just wanted to ge to know his father. No Isiah just
couldn't be bothered. He was too busy calling women bitches and hoes and trying to
get a booty call to be bothered with his own son. I hope the jury give her 25 million.
The Knick don't need it, they couldn't win a championship game if they were playing against themselves!!! I can't wait for Stephon's wife to sue him for divorce! She will definitely get half after the testimony of that slutty intern!!

19. Thomas denied all her allegations

Looks like the Jury did NOT believe you...

Any one who says, A black man CAN call a black woman a B*&ch
But if a white man calls a black woman a B&ch, it's NOT acceptable is a racist (period)
I am a woman, and neither of you can!!!!

Another star has fallen from the sky, so what's new?

20. He should be fired on top of it. If it were any other corporation, he would be fired too.

21. This is what happens when you create an atmosphere of an overpaid boy's club encouraged to strut around like they own the planet. The days of crimal behaviour being overlooked in the name of money, ticket sales and television ratings are over fellas. Now when you check into a hotel and have sex with a desk clerk you might just find yourself charged with rape, we never did find out the whole story about that one did we? If you assault a young beauty contestant who is brave enough to testify against you, you just might find yourself doing time for actual rape. Decide to use some or your millions to abuse dogs for the amusement of others instead of maybe donating to charity?, expect to find yourself indicted. Your free ride is over boys and you are not above the law. Bottom line; you are simply athletes, not gods. Get over yourselves.

23. Word here in NYC is that Dolan's behavior (boorish snot-nose in video of deposition, didn't show up in court) was a major factor in verdict going against the Knicks. No one will ever accuse James or his father Chuck of being stable individuals or even good businessmen, but you'd think their in-house counsel would have pimp-smacked Jr. , wrestled him into a tie, wiped his nose and told him to sit up straight while being videotaped.

They deserve to lose twice this amount, but I suspect it'll be on appeal for years. I'm really glad the jury decided against the team; this kind of stuff happens all the time in sports, the entertainment industry, corporate offices in NY. Maybe the risk of losing a kajillion after-tax dollars (and having to explain it to their shareholders and business partners) will stifle these yo-yos. And maybe women will be less likely to let themselves be abused and then bullied out of complaining.

26. Karma. Everyone eventually gets whats coming to them and Isaiah finally got his. He's exhibited this behavior for years. MSG needs to fire him immediately.

27. A woman can claim "sexual harrassment" in the workplace. and then the burden of proof is on the man. How can a man prove that something didnt happen? In the end, the woman doesnt have to "prove" anything either. She just has to get a jury to believe her.

This was a no-win situation for Isiah from the very beginning.

28. If he's guilty, then he should pay!

That being said, Isaiah Thomas would've been the last player or person associated with the NBA that I would've thought would be guilty of this!

At least we know he DOES like women! LOL!

29. Trace, as a black man myself, I do feel what you are saying. It shouldn't matter on the color. If they are guilty, they should pay!

A little correction on the last one though. Chris Benoit (the wrestler's name) was on drugs and was also brain damaged. Unlike the others you named, he may not have been in his right mind when he committed those heinous acts.

Back to your post as a whole though, I feel where you are coming from.

30. Zeek,
You were a punk A-Hole when you played and you are the same now. You treated fans as if they were the enemy, not signing autographs and just being a jerk. What comes around goes around. Now how does it feel to have someone stick it to you. You are not bigger than life, although you think you are. Good luck having someone take a chance on you with another team. Go away and never come back. Maybe you can go live in a cave with Osama!!!!
