Jury Finds Isiah Thomas Liable on Harassment Claims

UPDATE: The jury has just awarded $11.6 million in damages to Anucha Browne Sanders.

A federal jury has found that basketball legend Isiah Thomas sexually harassed a former New York Knicks executive.

The jury in the $10 million sexual harassment lawsuit deliberated a little over two days before deciding in favor of Anucha Browne Sanders.

The case, which has gripped New York, painted a picture of the Knicks' front office and Madison Square Garden as a place where sexism and crude language were commonplace.

Browne Sanders, a married mother of three and a former college basketball star at Northwestern University, testified that Thomas initially called her a "bitch" and a "ho" when she began working for the organization, and then began making unwanted advances toward her and encouraging her to visit him "off site."

Thomas denied all of Browne Sander's allegations, and his attorneys portrayed her as incompetent. Thomas did, however, acknowledge trying to kiss Browne Sanders in December 2005, asking her, "No love today?" when she recoiled. Garden President Steve Mills said he spoke with Thomas about the incident and was told it wouldn't happen again.

46. Yes I Said It: Please read the whole article before posting your opinion. Since you didn't do that, here's what you didn't read: "Thomas did, however, acknowledge trying to kiss Browne Sanders in December 2005, asking her, "No love today?" when she recoiled. Garden President Steve Mills said he spoke with Thomas about the incident and was told it wouldn't happen again."

She didn't have to prove anything because IT did it for her.

47. JMajor, that would be great; but too many people only see the dollar signs and the fame and will sacrifice their honor and integrity to get both.

Now that she kicked ass and proved her claim maybe more woman will come out and back her up.
For them to file an appeal is just ludicrous when they know dam well he is guilty of this claim and a lot more going years back, But so are most of them at Madison.

53. Testosterone dominates Isiah's brain. A lot of jocks are like that. It helps to make them good athletes, but jerks off the court. Double bind.

55. WHAT!??!?!? An NBA office is full of testosterone driven alpha-males? Getdahellouttahere, who would have thunk it?

Look ladies, you dont belong on a battlefield the boyscouts and you only have limited uses in a mens pro basketball organization. Those uses are limited to fetching water, towels and aftergame entertainment. If you want to be in the big boys club, dont gripe when you get treated like a party favor

56. His ego is way out of scope, this man on court house steps saying he is innocent is stupid if not funny. After those comments and look on his face of "holy me" made me sick. Good for her.

AND for Dear Trace,....hate to tell you but ... 3 of your 4 examples did not kill or physically torture any animals or humans! (Well t@ least that I'm aware of ).
Bottom-line---

60. What credentials did he ever have to be in the "front office", managing, administering, or executing anything to do with the business and running of a Business Operation?

Ex Stars on the Court or Field or Ice, unless specifically trained for Business Management rarely can show the same kind of brilliance in a real Business World type environment

Why? Because, its a whole different game, complete with Men and Women, Budgets, Federal Laws, and a host of other challenges they dont get in the simple game of simply using a ball or puck in a confined area.

I blame MSG on this one---going for a name with no credibility for what a position of his demands in other business. Thus, the reckless behaviour that went unchecked, unsupervised and overlooked. He probably didnt even get the standard Sexual Harrasment Training Class most other Employees get these days---and if he did, probably still left it with the aire of confidence and swagger he showed in his playing days both on and off the court.

Shame on him but shame even more on those who hired him. I would hope Thomas is banished now from ever leading people or Organizations again and returns to maybe running Basketball Camps in the Summer.

Organizations need trained and experienced Leaders, with sensitivity to people, the customers and the business---it doesnt need more untrained ex Super Stars.
