Jury Finds Isiah Thomas Liable on Harassment Claims

UPDATE: The jury has just awarded $11.6 million in damages to Anucha Browne Sanders.

A federal jury has found that basketball legend Isiah Thomas sexually harassed a former New York Knicks executive.

The jury in the $10 million sexual harassment lawsuit deliberated a little over two days before deciding in favor of Anucha Browne Sanders.

The case, which has gripped New York, painted a picture of the Knicks' front office and Madison Square Garden as a place where sexism and crude language were commonplace.

Browne Sanders, a married mother of three and a former college basketball star at Northwestern University, testified that Thomas initially called her a "bitch" and a "ho" when she began working for the organization, and then began making unwanted advances toward her and encouraging her to visit him "off site."

Thomas denied all of Browne Sander's allegations, and his attorneys portrayed her as incompetent. Thomas did, however, acknowledge trying to kiss Browne Sanders in December 2005, asking her, "No love today?" when she recoiled. Garden President Steve Mills said he spoke with Thomas about the incident and was told it wouldn't happen again.

61. So, a woman (and a black woman at that) was called a bitch in the work place and also turned down a kiss on the cheek and this was worth 11 million dollars. Thomas is an idiot for one thing but for these acts of harassment to be valued at 11 million. Well, sounds like Thomas may have been correct in his assessment of the individual after all.

This may have been good for THIS woman, but as far as other women in the work place, it giveS corporate America one more reason to pass over a women in favor of a man. Men don't get offended when they are called names, Men don't get pregnant, men don't sue for 11 million dollars because their feelings were hurt. Hey ladies, you have twits like this to thank for your future failures in finding a good paying job. It's your own fault. And from a mans point of view, I have no sympathy for you at all. Happy job hunting.

62. Ha, It will be a cold day in Hell when the Knicks hire another woman in that front office. Athletes are their bread and butter. Thomas uses typical derogatory language of a black athlete. These guys aren't going anywhere. Now as for women in executive positions for the Knicks? I think they'll take their chances by not hiring them in the first place. Good move ladies. Here's one for the women's liberation movement.

64. It's unfortunate to see our black athelets, portrayed negatively on the news. The media builds them up & then rips them to pieces. This is a wake up call for Isiah, he truely has some unresolved issuse's. Hopefully this situation has got his attention. To alert him that he needs to change for his sake. Where there is life there is still hope. You are in my prayer's . There is nothing to hard for GOD to do if you let him!!!

65. LMAO

I just think it's really sad that the only way that anyone sees things on this thing is through "race". Isiah is his own man who will have to answer for what he did. Bringing up M. Vick, and all those other people is just a bit much.

Trace is correct, but we shouldn't have to even go there. It's pretty clear that Isiah has a few problems. As a New Yorker I'm ashamed that this guy represents my hometown team and acts this way and says the things he said during his deposition.

It's really sad that people like LMAO have to lump these actions in with an entire race, especially considering that there seems to be a problem in all of our major sports across the race board.

Thanks TMZ !!!!!

70. I was 19 years old and worked at a place near detroit that the pistons frequented in the 80s. They all made little flirtatious comments but IT was the only one who was seriously relentless. Sally and Rodman got the bad rep but somehow IT stayed squeaky clean - which allowed him to get away with even more. I was too young, stupid and starstruck to say anything at the time.... but even then I thought his behavior would get him in trouble some day. I guess today is that day. Having been there, she deserves to be compensated and he deserves to pay. Finally.

72. Finally justice is served for women getting sexually harrassed in the workplace. Maybe now Thomas will think twice about disrespecting women in the workplace or in ANY place for that matter from now. And, considering how they've been fairing lately, I'm starting to think that these athletes have serious anti-social (and even psychotic issues) b/c MOST of them don't seem to know how to treat ppl (or even animals for that matter). Those dudes really have issues.
