Jury Finds Isiah Thomas Liable on Harassment Claims

UPDATE: The jury has just awarded $11.6 million in damages to Anucha Browne Sanders.

A federal jury has found that basketball legend Isiah Thomas sexually harassed a former New York Knicks executive.

The jury in the $10 million sexual harassment lawsuit deliberated a little over two days before deciding in favor of Anucha Browne Sanders.

The case, which has gripped New York, painted a picture of the Knicks' front office and Madison Square Garden as a place where sexism and crude language were commonplace.

Browne Sanders, a married mother of three and a former college basketball star at Northwestern University, testified that Thomas initially called her a "bitch" and a "ho" when she began working for the organization, and then began making unwanted advances toward her and encouraging her to visit him "off site."

Thomas denied all of Browne Sander's allegations, and his attorneys portrayed her as incompetent. Thomas did, however, acknowledge trying to kiss Browne Sanders in December 2005, asking her, "No love today?" when she recoiled. Garden President Steve Mills said he spoke with Thomas about the incident and was told it wouldn't happen again.

76. This goof grew up in Chicago and was a star in HS here. He was always thanking his Momma for raising him and all that make nice talk he would give. He even looks like his Momma.

Momma apparently provided no lessons in the treatment of other women to Thomas. His Daddy wasnt around so Thomas has been running through life thinking just because he can put a ball in a hoop he is entitled to treat women and others any way he feels like.

He is now a disgraced forever branded sexual harrasser. They ought to make a Registry for such individuals so other Employers dont bring that garbage into their Organization.

Even watching him outside the courtroom steps I could see a smirk on his face and his dimples starting to puff in that now oh so tired ass routine of he is such a nice young man.

Wonder what Commisioner Stern will do about this one? Probably nothing, the NBA and those who run it at the Team and National Level are a disgrace when it comes to Accountability to Behaviour.

79. $10mil for inappropriate comments and getting hit on? Are you kidding me? Any woman walking into any bar anywhere will suffer same only on an even lower class level. Women of the world rejoice, this means you can now sue men for being...well...men and become uber rich as a result.

80. $11+ million dollars? sigh........people can rape/kill other people and get a couple years in jail, but if someone says someone wrong or touches someone inappopriately they get $11 million. The judicial system in our country is a laughing stock.

83. First thing first, I think that she had the right to fight for rights and the injustice done to her but what I don't agree with is the fact that Sexual Harrassment has a double meaning. I mean he was wrong for calling her B*t*ches and Hoes but woman let the male friends, boyfriends, husbands, etc... call them those names. So if you really want to stop sexual harrasment it should start at home. As for Stephon's case, He is not married and the girl was not rapped.

84. I will say this, I DO think the amount for this case is ridiculous. 11 million? I kind of doubt the harrassment warrented that much. I DO hope that its a lesson to Isiah and others that you can't say whatever to women (though, to be fair, women say FAR worse at the workplace and rarely are reprimanded).

To Trace - To be honest, I don't buy the steriod story on Chris Benoit either. Its a stereotype in of itself because he's was a wrestler. As you pointed out, many wrestlers and athletes have taken steriods and didn't do what he did. I think the brain damage theory that's out now is more believable than steriods. I mean, look at Superstar Billy Graham! He took steriods for over 30 years before he finally stopped and he never killed anyone (though he did wreck his body to the condition he's in now).

Back to the subject, 11 million? I mean, with all due respect to the lady in question, there are women that have endured FAR WORSE than what she described and didn't get even 1% of what she's going to get! And they spoke up as well I might add.

I am not saying she shouldn't get compensation. If they did what the jury believed Isiah Thomas and his group did, then they should pay. I am just not sure it was worth 11 million.
I will say this though, no man has the right to call a woman a b*tch, be it a white man or black man! I am surprised a guy like Isiah would even suggest that.

85. why is Sports Management the last to get the Sexual Harrasment in the workplace doesnt fly anymore? Doesnt matter if its pictures, suggestions, talk, or physical contact. Corporations figured this out 2 decades ago but apparently MSG and the Knicks have not.

11m is an expensive way to get with Modern Times. Thomas is a nothing in the Front Office, has no business putting on a suit and tie and thinking this ass grabber from way back could do professional and just treatment of employees.

Guys a Loser in Life...a Hero in Sports but a loser in Life nonetheless.

He has only done more to instill the wrong image in Black Men. Yes White Men do this too, but my goodness where is the leadership in succesful Black Men...you ask me, most of them are full of it...Cosby, King, Jackson, all had mistresses. Black people need to find new heroes as role models. When 70 percent of all Black births occurr without a Father remaining in the household, something is terribly terribly wrong with the whole Culture. Wish it wasnt true, but the numbers pan out...when Blacks make up 13% of the population but over 50% of all murders, something again is terribly wrong here. I dont have the answers and apparently neither do Black Leaders as it only got worse since 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed.

Sports stars should not be thought of as Role Models in any Culture. The ass grabbing, treating Women badly stigma seems to only continue instead of improve with time.

86. I was leaving a clients hotel, when Isiah was returning to his hotel. He was checking me out and invited me up right away. I didn't know who he was at that time, but I recognized him form the tv. I wasn't star struck, just a bit surprised that he approached me in a public place and invited me to his room.

When I got up to his room he was already undressed and wearing the hotel robe. He was on the phone with his wife, shushing his finger to his mouth telling me silently to be quiet while he opened the door, proudly displaying his 'hard member' through his housecoat.

He had a nice 'hard thingy' but he didn't want to use a condom. Which of course I found very strange, since I already told him the price. I couldn't believe it, he wanted to go bare back with me, a working girl! I thought he was crazy. He tried to persude me with his charm but I didn't give in and dressed him up anyway. Did the deed and left. I was not impressed with him trying to convince me to go bare back. It's like he didn't care about himself or his family.

When I saw him doing his lates interview when he says and points his fingers back toward the court saying : 'I am innocent, I am very innocent' I just laugh

87. You know, the more information I am finding out about this, the more its teaching me "you don't know what's going on behind closed doors." I am just amazed that he (Isiah) hasn't been busted before now.

To me, this kind of womanizer is worse than someone like Dennis Rodman. At least Dennis is open about it. Guys like this hide behind respectability while doing the deed is (in some ways) worse than a guy who openly disrespects women.

Still not sure she deserves the amount she was awarded but hopefully, it'll be a very painful and memorable lesson for these guys! I do think it will ultimately come back on women as a whole sadly.

88. Have you seen this "woman" who filed the lawsuit? If I didn't know for a fact that she was a woman, I would have sworn she was a dude. There is NO WAY men would voluntarily hit on her. She gives new meaning to the word fugly!
