103. Ummm #29 Leela...no. Actually alcoholism is a disease. Defined as such by the AMA way back in 1950 and fitting every available criterion for classification. It's unfortunate but common that someone like you - who doesn't suffer from it -suffers nevertheless under the notion it's a choice. If I can have a few drinks and not suffer consequences, so should everyone, right? So if Lance Armstrong beat cancer, everyone who doesn't and dies is a loser? Umm...no. But that too is a terrible disease. Yet would you cast judgement on a cancer sufferer,a heart patient, someone with lupus? It's no choice to roughly 7% of the world's population. Those are the addicted. And as someone who beat hardcore alcoholism for years now using non-traditional (non AA) methods, I can only hope that Mel will turn to whatever means ultimately works for him. I can also say emphatically that it is remarkably hard in the beginning,it is a tough but beatable opponent, and to do so requires a lot of intelligence, love, faith, hope and luck. Mel seems to have those things at his hands. And as for the anti-semitic business. Truthfully - so what? Hollywood as an industry is overwhelmingly jewish. And there was no comfort level with Mel Gibson after "Passion" came out and was a mega-success financially. All he did was give them enough rope to hang him with.
