"Supernanny" Kid Sets Fire to Home

News flash! Reality TV shows won't solve every crisis! One family found out the hard way, when their wacky kid set fire to the family home -- after appearing on the TV show "Supernanny." Burn!

Supernanny Jo Frost -- who appears on both British and American versions of the show -- visited Paul and Susan Young and their five children in 2005 in their UK home. Frost attempted to help the Youngs tame their rambunctious boys, all under age 11, but mom said that appearing on the show made the kids behave worse and play up to cameras.

The fire appears to have been started by 3-year-old Joel while he was home with mother Susan, and his siblings were in school. Damage to the home was so severe that the family was forced to move into a hotel. Is "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" casting?!

The fire started in the kitchen, said Essex police officer Terry Hutton. As Young attempted to put the fire out, "the little boy went through the dining room and set fire to the curtains," reports the Daily Mail.

52. Sounds like these parents just want something for free. They have kids that are out of control and don't want to blame themselves. They need group counseling. To bad they are using an escape goat like the super nanny.

53. Clearly this mother didnt think of the amount she could handle before pushing all those babies out. I would seriously send my kid away if he was this bad.

55. I realize that alot of people are saying "the parents" and that the mother was home at the time, but why hasn't anyone though to mention the father in this, too? he's in the picture, too.....speaking as someone who has a nephew with problems of a nature such as what fire-starting at a young age can bring about, the parents need evaluated as much as the kid(s) do.....its appalling to think that they are blaming Jo Frost for their lack of attentiveness to their children

56. DON'T Blame Supernanny...Joe goes into a house (as she did across the street from me) and evaluates where the problem is, gives constructive critisism, works with the family to acheive a positive outcome, leaves, comes back to fine tune what she has attempted to do and then goes to the next family.

It's then, up to the PARENTS to FOLLOW THROUGH wih raising the kids.

In my situation, the parent didn't follow through with what they are taught and then blame it on everyone else. These parents should be made to take parenting classes and followed up on.

PARENTS....get a backbone and start disciplining your children. God entrusted us with them to guide them.....STOP trying to be best friends with your kids. They need limitations and boundaries.

57. No one put a gun to your head and made you be on the show, so stop acting like it is the shows fault and parent your own kids and maybe you should try watching them also so they won't set your house on fire.

I wonder if that was Supernannys first thought?

59. They appeared on the show in 2005 and the arsonist boy is now 3 years old. Simple math says the boy was only 1 when Supernanny came to their home. I seriously doubt a few days of Supernanny being in their home affected his behavior that much.
Obviously the no-brained mother and father didn't instill the behavorial teachings Supernanny showed them. They obviously are inept parents, making the same mistakes over and over again.
Don't blame Supernanny, she came to help out for a week. The parents are the ones that have spent this kid's entire life screwing him up.
