Vick Scores with PETA

Michael VickPETA announced today that Michael Vick, the embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback who plead guilty to dog fighting charges, completed an eight-hour class in empathy and animal protection. A little late, no?

Vick took the course at PETA's Norfolk, Virginia headquarters on September 18, was given home study materials, and came back a third time to take a test. PETA is asking the NFL to make empathy training mandatory for all players.

If you would like to repair your public image following an embarrassing federal trial, you can find all the materials at PETA.org.

61. The fact that we place football players, or any sports people for that matter as role models is the problem. This man is the lowest of the low. To take the life of a defenseless animal is sub-human and I truly believe the best thing has happened. He will never be the sports hero he was on the path to be. It doesn't matter what class he takes. He will never be on top again, b/c in football there is always someone just waiting to take your place and I am satisfied with that. He killed dogs...but he also killed his career. There is nothing I could wish him that he will not get thanks to a girl named Kharma.

62. PETA opposes using animals for medical research. For the people whose lives have been saved or improved by the fruits of animal research, "empathy" is not quite the right word for what PETA preaches. "Euthanasia" is closer.

64. What is wrong with Peta ? They should know that it takes more than 8 hrs to teach somone to be kind to animals and not to exploit them. It takes a childhood of teaching from ones PARENTS. Children learn from watching their parents and listening to them. If the parents are cruel or non-caring to animals, the child will be the same way. The only thing Vick is sorry about is being caught. His cruelty to those dogs was so extreme, I doubt that he is capable of compassion for animals. He is 28 years old. Trying to un-teach a lifelong mind set is much harder than teaching a child the right way from the beginning. According to the people who should know, a child's character is built during the first seven years of their life.

66. Sorry Vick, no sympathy here. Your active involvement and obvious enjoyment in torturing the "loser dogs" to horrible, prolonged deaths is extremely disturbing. Plus, you just tested dirty for drugs. I would kiss the football career goodbye at this point. You had a chance at greatness, and you tossed it away.

67.
Now we hear from Peta?.
I cant stand that organization, They are cowards and very selective of who they go after. Not just any animal abuser catches hell from them, certainly not this one.

71. Nicmart: It is no longer neccessary, and has not been for some time, to use animals in research; just cheaper. The reputable institutions that do research are using lifelike copies of animals that are far more accurate and humane. Animals and humans differ in many ways and wasting the lives of millions of God's creatures for MAYBE one success every thirty years or so is immoral. If you don't believe me, check out how many cures have actually been found by using animals in research.

72.
How disturbing that Peta to took on such a useless token challenge as Vick.
8 hours or 8 years will not erase the violent evil that lays beneath a person. Did they give him a cookie and Starbucks coupon too? Idiots.

73. Crocodile: I don't know where you get your info, but it is WRONG. Peta has never recommended giving children beer instead of milk.

75. What SHOULD PETA and Vick do? At least they are trying to deal with this...

C'mon - baby steps!

I am, by no means, making excuses - but up until now Vick has only shown regret for being caught.

Hopefully now, thanks to PETA, he realizes WHY dog-fighting is wrong.

Sounds as if you all would prefer he keep on being a sadistic dog abuser....just so you can feel holier.
