Celebrity Justice
Wrestling Star Popped for DUI

Kurt AngleUPDATE: TMZ just received the following statement from Angle's attorney: "Kurt Angle maintains his innocence relative to the charges brought by the police in this matter. The improper arrest occurred in the middle of the afternoon after Mr. Angle showed no signs of intoxication. The police have no blood alcohol content and not firsthand knowledge of his operation of his vehicle. We believe the motivation for this arrest is based upon Kurt Angle's celebrity status and we are confident that we will prevail when the truth becomes evident."

Kurt Angle, the former WWE and current TNA wrestling star, was charged with DUI and careless driving after being pulled over on the afternoon of September 28.

Angle was arrested at his home in Moon Township, Penn. after a witness spotted a white Cadillac Escalade driving erratically after pulling out of a local bar. The registration of that vehicle led police to Angle's home, where cops say he admitted to driving the vehicle and that he had just left the bar in question.

Officers then say Angle showed "signs of intoxication," and they administered a field sobriety test, which he failed. Angle was then placed under arrest and taken to a local hospital where he refused to take a blood test.

No future hearing has been set.

Angle won an Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling in 1996. Calls to Angle's reps were not immediately returned.

32. How stupid can you be? By some miracle your dumb drunk self arrives safely at home and you answer the doorbell when police arrive??? Duh. Don't answer. They don't have a warrant and can't force their way in. Dry out for a few hours and then respond to the police. What an idiot.

33. Unless Pennsylvania is different, in order to "bust" someone for DUI, you need 3 things: 1)Operation, 2)Motor vehicle and 3)the operator must be under the influence. Unfortunately for the police, they did not witness operation (based on the story given)and unless Miranda Warning were given prior to questioning, anything Angle said will be thrown out, including his admission of guilt.

34. Yes I think that it was very stupid for Kurt to get behind the wheel of any car or suv after drinking, yes he needs to employ a driver for times like those when he wants to get wasted. But this is for kizzle that message you put on the board was insensitive and ignorant. A bunch of people including myself are still in shock and hurting over that incident and uncaring people like yourself hasn't make it any easier. Be a little more gentle with information that doesnt give the whole story or just shut the hell up.

36. To 34 -- that's not true. You don't have to be Mirandized. He was being questioned for suspicion of drunk driving, plus there were witnesses to the fact that he was drunk driving. So if someone admits committing murder to a police officer when they're being questioned under suspicion, are you trying to tell me because they weren't Mirandized first the admission doesn't count?? And they have the vehicle (the license plate the witness gave them led them to Angle!!), plus the witness' statements PLUS his admission and failure of field sobriety PLUS his refusal to take a blood test...they have a case. And just so you know, in the state of PA, REGARDLESS of whether you're drunk or not, if you are retained for even SUSPICION of drunk driving and refuse the breathalizer or blood test, it's an automatic one year suspension of your license.

37. he probably refused to take a blood test because he does drugs, maybe even steroids. ive heard before he was a user, old habits die hard.

39. First, on Kurt, I can't believe he'd do something so stupid! I hope this is the first and last time he does it!

To Candi, I join and agree with you. Many fans (including myself) are still getting over what happened with Chris Benoit and comments like the ones made my Kizzle was uncalled for, especially since one of the victims was his own 7 year old son!

To do something for shock value is one thing but that is going past bad taste!

40. Excuse me, but since when do we hold wrestlers more accountable than anyone else? If he had been a military boy who had just come home from Iraq, the cops would have just let him go. But for some reason, people seem to think celebrities need to be held to a higher standard than the average joe. Get a life folks, Kurt Angle is just as human as the rest of us; so don't judge him unless you want someone digging into your background to judge you for the crap you haven't done right.

42. DUI is a serious offense and in many foriegn countries is a criminal offense, not a traffic violation. It should be in this country also. There is no excuse for someone driving while impaired! He deserves to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

44. What Brain? That's been beaten out of every Wrestler/Boxer...not that l think they ever had one to begin with. Wrestling/Boxing is nothing else but an organized Beat up show with MacMahon as an old , wrinkled wanna be superstar. They all have way too much money and don't know what to do with it. l like "The Rock" he knew when it was time to quit and as we see he has other talents as well.

45. I am crippled because of a drunk driver. I hate all drunk driver's guts. I joined MADD, thinking they cared, and that they would help me. They must be invisible, because every single week some celebrity gets a DUI, and MADD never expresses themselves. I have called them, they don't return my calls. I have called my elected officials, they don't return my calls either. I have called the media, they don't return my calls either.
The long and short of it is, I'm crippled, my life is changed forever, and no one gives a diddly damn.
These celebrities, and everyone else can just keep doing their cruddy things, because no one cares.
