Celebrity Justice
Wrestling Star Popped for DUI

Kurt AngleUPDATE: TMZ just received the following statement from Angle's attorney: "Kurt Angle maintains his innocence relative to the charges brought by the police in this matter. The improper arrest occurred in the middle of the afternoon after Mr. Angle showed no signs of intoxication. The police have no blood alcohol content and not firsthand knowledge of his operation of his vehicle. We believe the motivation for this arrest is based upon Kurt Angle's celebrity status and we are confident that we will prevail when the truth becomes evident."

Kurt Angle, the former WWE and current TNA wrestling star, was charged with DUI and careless driving after being pulled over on the afternoon of September 28.

Angle was arrested at his home in Moon Township, Penn. after a witness spotted a white Cadillac Escalade driving erratically after pulling out of a local bar. The registration of that vehicle led police to Angle's home, where cops say he admitted to driving the vehicle and that he had just left the bar in question.

Officers then say Angle showed "signs of intoxication," and they administered a field sobriety test, which he failed. Angle was then placed under arrest and taken to a local hospital where he refused to take a blood test.

No future hearing has been set.

Angle won an Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling in 1996. Calls to Angle's reps were not immediately returned.

76. D U I IS THE CODE WORDS FOR YOUR LUCKY YOU DIDENT KILL SOME INNOCENT PERSON BECAUSE OF YOUR DISREGARD FOR ANYONE BUT YOURSELF. IF HE KILLED SOMEONE THEN HE WOULD REALLY HAVE SOMETHING TO DRINK ABOUT. ARE STEROIDS AND DRUGS AND JUST GENERAL BAD BEHAVIOR THE THINGS THAT ROLE MODELS ARE MADE OF ?

77. I've read all these posts, and am very saddened by the state of our country. NOT ONE of those who posted even thought that, until he goes to court, he's innocent until proven guilty... Also, I'm not a Wrestling Fan, but let's face it, people fill a role 'out there', and his 'role' is to entertain.
For those who have judged this guy based on his looks - you are shallow and stupid. How would you like someone judging you based on your looks?
And, last but not least, all of you 'Conspiracy Theorists' out there, get a life. There's NO WAY the WWE would do something illegal like that. Remember, they are a publically traded company, and have a responsibility to show revenue and growth to the Owners of the Company (the Shareholders). Wouldn't it be very irresponsible of them to pull something as stupid as this, knowing full well that they would risk future profitability (and their stock price)? Think about it.

I'm going to leave you with my original point. Isn't our Country based on a premise that everyone is innocent until proven guilty? (not 'he looks guilty' so he must have done it...)

78. Tired of stupidity, its more like "guilty until proven innocent."

79. Kurt Angle refusing to take a blood test? Okay, but if Sting beats him
at Bound For Glory again, he'll know the reason why he should've
stayed in the WWE instead of faking a back injury and walking out on
Mr. McMahon. If I were Jim Cornette, I would've slapped Kurt Angle
with a 30-day suspention in a case like that, but let him find out
the hard way. I'm almost beginning to think moving toTNA Wrestling
was Kurt Angle's biggest mistake of his career.

82. Three theories:

1) It's all the APA's fault for introducing Kurt to beer in that one backstage segment. DAMN!

2) Like many of us, Vince Russo's booking drove Kurt to drink.

3) Since this is TMZ I am posting on, I am obliged to say...it's somehow Bush's fault.

84. Just another one who gives Wrestling a bad name. Why can't they just leave the booze and drugs alone.

These people are to be role models to our children!!

85. Omg....seriously...when are celebs gonna learn that they are NOT invincible from the law? I was nearly killed by a drunk driver in 2004 that totalled my car and nearly killed me....he also had a loaded gun on him. Anyway....Kurt, Lindsay, Brit, Keifer, Nicole, Paris....more and more and more...when are they gonna learn?! We all know Kurt was addicted to pain pills and went to rehab but it doesn't look like he learned the first time. This is going to keep happening until someone does indeed get killed. I wonder if Kurt will get fired from TNA now. Promises here we come!

86. BTW...where in the hell was his wife when all of this happened? The kids? I think his wife in an enabler. She's on the road with him...involved in TNA. Where was she?

87. Id Be afraid as a wrestler about to hit 40 cause as you read a lot of well known wrestlers died somehow when thier in their 40's. Its a really big coincedence or just a wrestling curse. Either way the 40's seem to be a very bad age.

88. this is to funny. the guy will beat the charge but wont beat the ride. the police have no evidence and to add the alleged person was now at home after the fact. not behind the wheel. the defense can say he got drunk at home. not in the bar. since he was not caught behind the wheel. like they say. once in the home, you are safe and sound. behind the wheel you done deal.

89. Now that I've read more details into this case, its VERY possible this might get thrown out since the incident and the arrest took place at different times PLUS the "witness" never actually said that Kurt Angle was behind the wheel nor did the police confirm this either.

True, Kurt DID fail a sobriety test BUT he may have gotten drunk at his home since there seems to have been enough time between the incident and when the police arrived at his house!
