can we get the same 'prep' that you d*!che bags do for the TMZ show? Something tells me you just don't roll out of the car, with a hangover from the night before of reporting the 'news' and roll it in one take.
Yes, folks, this is what really happens in film and TV. This is not out of the ordinary in the industry. Plus Rather is not berating anyone or being obnoxious like many of the individuals seen on this website. Once again, another attempt to make something out of nothing.
Guys this is not that weird.....I'm sure this happens EVERY day with EVERY other news anchor in the world!
Pretty lame attempt at an attack on Dan Rather!
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD RATHER !!!!!!! IT'S A NEWS STORY NOT A FASHION STATEMENT....... FINALLY WE ALL SEE YOU WERE NO GOOD AT EITHER ... NEWS OR FASHION .. GO RETIRE SOMEWHERE ALREADY WILL YA ....... JUST FADE SCENE ......CUT........ WHATEVER ELSE THEY SAY IN THE BUSINESS....... CYA !
Anyone who knows anything about the technical requirements and logistics for setting up a live on-location TV feed will understand that all this prep work is quite normal--especially for an evening network newscast. Remember that this footage was taken before the advent of automatic color temperature camera sensors and real-time digital color-correction. It doesn't help that the footage is edited so as to make it appear that the entire 20min. was focused on the "coat decision". Granted, Dan Rather is a peculiar guy, but focus on clothing & appearance is "business as usual" in network news and the TV industry. As a bit of background, I've been a field producer for ABC for over 15 years. This is nothing compared to the 1 hour+ that goes into Diane Sawyer's daily lighting prep for GMA and that's mostly in-studio.
It's silly yes, but he's working and he's being perfectly polite to everyone around him. He's worried about "continuity" and the integrity of the broadcast. This is what they do. One of the trivial parts of the job. If he was being some tyrant I would be laughing harder, but it's not that big of a deal really.
Not weird to me - hello it's television - EVERYONE was discussing the cold wind, the direction of the wind, they were doing blocking, lighting etc....
I've worked in the news and this is how a professional anchor helps to guide the crew to get a good shot and not freeze -- ie. suggesting that they put something up to block the wind is very intelligent guidance. He's very friendly about helping with things that shouldn't really be his responsibility. Go Dan!
The man is doing his job. He was tops in his field, and you don't get there without taking care of the details. I mean really, he was actually On The Roof, and Never complained or pushed anyone around. the reality of TV is never as interesting as what is usually show...
Obviously, Dan BEFORE the frequency.
Notice, he doesn't seem CRAZY? He's a calm, cool, collected fellow. Hmmmm.....
Maybe he was hijacked by Aliens and asked about Kenneth's frequency after all.
Ummm that wasn't the full 20 minutes. That was edited just to show the parts he mentions the jacket...what a pathetic attempt to make Dan Rather look bad.
Im pretty sure thats just routine things they go through before setting up a shot..
