Robbie Williams ... Who That?

Robbie Williams is a big star in the UK, but his popularity across the pond was tested last night when a passerby had no clue who he was.

TMZ caught the "Rock DJ" singer outside the El Rey after the Mark Ronson concert, where after getting into his SUV, a man on the street started asking our cameraman, "Who is that?"

Even after being told "Robbie Williams," the guy was clueless. Guess he's not a Take That fan.

17. You know. Robbie is a bit of a trainwreck himself, but he knows it and he's able to joke about it. The 'She's Madonna' video, anyone? 'I'm a bit special.' And he makes awesome music. America would be better if there were more stars like Robbie making news and less like Porkney and Parasite. I'd give anything to open TMZ one morning and see Will Young.

18. your nobody until you make it in America. thats the way it is. you foreigners can keep getting mad about it but it is the truth. if it wasn't you wouldn't be so mad about it.

20. There is a whole world outside of America, perhaps most of you should get your head out of your ass and learn something, robbie williams is a major star in many countries, America is not the only country on this planet!

21. ROBBIE WILLIAMS ROCKS!! I HAVE ALL OF HIS CD'S. THE FACT THAT HE IS BEYOND DREAMY DOESN'T HURT EITHER!

22. In every country around the world Robbie Williams has been the biggest selling male artist for years. Just Google him and you'll see. You can't spend a week in Paris, London, Tokyo, Mexico City, Buenos Aires etc without hearing his songs on teh radio, seeing him on TV, or reading about him in a magazine. He purposely moved to L.A. to have some freedom from the paparazzi. He doesn't need the notoriety to sell albums; his record contract with EMI is the highest to date being 80 million UK (like 50 million us dollars).

You know, there is a world beyond the US people...

23. Oh, hahahahaa. Some Dude, you are so much of a moron that I almost feel bad laughing at you. Robbie Williams sold over 1.5 million tickets in one day and busted the record. Broke the record. Not Madonna or Britney or any other American act. All Robbie.

24. He has had trouble breaking America, but he is far from a nobody. He has sold more records than any artist in the UK and in lots of other European country. That Jessica SImpson remake of "Angels"???? That's actually Robbie WIlliams' song, that he released only a few years ago.

28. TMZ. You guys are stupid. I saw this dude sell out a stadium in the UK. He's sold tens of millions of records and yet you try to make him look like a nobody because he doesn'y focus on the U.S. That's ok. Please continue to focus on "real" stars like Chris Crocker, Perez Hilton, and Johhny Fairplay.

29. some dude: Nobody's "mad" about it. Apparently you differ from the rest of us in how we measure "success". Breaking a world record in approx. 3 hrs or so I would term a success. Conquering your demons (for the most part) and still having a sense of humor about it, I would term a success. Being asked to use your songs on major movie soundtracks, I would consider a success. I'll take Robbie any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Hell, I'll be old and gray if I wait around for the likes of Justin Timberlake to grow a personality.
