17. All he needs to do is file paternity, custody papers, etc. He can then request that the child carry his last name. Not that the Court will make her do it, but he can ask and should.

18. Absolutely the right decision to use Moynahan for the last name. Tom didn't marry her...he hasn't even been very nice to her. If you can't be nice and respectful to your kid's mom, and you don't marry the mom, then the kid should not get your name. Period. Moynahan will be a name for John to be proud of.

19. In Tx a mother can give the child any name she wants, I've know couples that have combined there last names with no hyphens and came up with completely new last names for their children. But if Tom wants the child to have his last name then he needs to prove he his the father and fight for that right. It doesn't matter who's fault it is that she got pregnant, it only matters that the baby is loved and care for by both parents and not used as a tool of revenge!!

22. In New York it is the father's decision when he signs the paternity papers not the mother's. I am guessing this is true in a lot of other states as well. Some states like New York require married and divorced women to change the name on their social security card everytime they get married or divorced in order to get a drivers license now. In other words you can't work under your maiden name and have a drivers license with you married name. If you use a hypenated name they make you list your maiden name as your middle name not part of your last name. I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of the problem another celebrity was having.

This woman is a wealthy actress in her own right and he is damn lucky she choose to have the baby at all.

There's a reason why over 50% of American women are choosing to stay single. It turns out that life in many cases is a whole lot happier without a husband.

So maybe she did just want a baby, so what? She can afford it.

Looking at the basic facts of this situation (pregnant woman abandoned by boyfriend who then humiliates with the new girlfriend), if the dad wasn't Tom Brady, no one would think the kid should get the father's name. Being a good football player does not mean we should forget that Tom has not behaved admirably as a man. Bridget was kind to let him be there at the hospital. I am sure John will get to know his father, but I hope he has more respect for women and more basic decency than his dad. I doubt Bridget is taking any money from Tom. She doesn't need it,just like she doesn't need the man Tom has shown himself to be.

27. Kasey...that comment is STUPID! How do you know SHE wanted him to marry her??? It could have been a mutual thing...just because he didnt marry her doesn't mean he doesn't repsect her. Just cause there is a pregnancy does NOT mean there has to be a marriage. And why is everyone blaming him?

And since we are all speculating on WHY she gave the baby her last name....MAYBE she just wanted her family name carried on?? Why does it always have to be the Dad's name?? I mean if she hated him SO MUCH then the baby's name wouldnt even have Edward Thomas in it.

29. Post #6 , I also don't understand why the baby could not get his dad's last name. Has nothing to due with the mom. A child should have their fathers last name.
