David Spade Donates to the Family of Fallen Officer

David SpadeDavid Spade may be best known for skewering celebs and inexplicably dating attractive women, but beneath that sarcastic exterior lies a heart of gold.

Spade read the story of Phoenix police officer Nick Erfle, who was fatally shot by an undocumented immigrant last month. The story of the officer -- who had returned to patrol after overcoming a bout with cancer, and left behind a widow and two children -- touched Spade so much, he sent the family $25,000 to help them get back on their feet.

Spade had never met the officer but we're told Spade often donates to police charities in L.A. and this particular story "just touched him."

16. #4 sorry the word illegal is right because he was. That's not radical that's fact. These people are mexico's problem not ours, so don't condemn this country if you won't condemn the country they come from. David Spade that was a great thing that you did!!

19. Nice gesture, David. I live in Phoenix (Surprise, actually) and we have lost 2 police officers in the last few weeks due to illigal aliens. We must get tougher on them. The piece of garbage that shot Officer Erfle had already been sent back to Mexico once or twice. It's an outrage.

20. Celebrities used to do deeds like this. (Think - Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Carson, Jack Benny, Dinah Shore, etc.)

Its refreshing to hear about grounded people in the industry. Kudos David!

23. Was it really necessary to add the line "shot by an illegal alien"? Mind you, I'm not supporting anyone's actions, but COME ON - these are people, human beings. To have to include that line just makes me disappointed in this reporting. Once again, not trying to side with anyone but wanted to bring it to the attention of TMZ staff and writers.

25. As a police wife who knows families of fallen officers, I wonder if he has ANY idea of how generous a move that way. It was kind enough for him to just think and respect the man, but to offer that kind of money when you feel all hope is gone, your life is over, and you don't know how to go on...

Recieving a letter, let alone a check is a moment of joy that can help to turn around their pain. Truly distracting them from what has happened.

What a great, thoughtful gesture. Bless him.

27. Good work David- and for those of you who are critics maybe it was the family or friends of the fallen officer who wanted Spade to get credit for his generosity.

29. That was a wonderful gesture and I'm sure it helped take some of the panic/worry off the family who are already having such a difficult time.

In Houston we had an officer shot and killed by an ILLEGAL about 6 months ago. I don't even want to call them 'immigrants' because they don't use the "immigration' system. Maybe the term should be illegal squatters.
