Feds: Doc Overprescribed Benoit

Chris BenoitTMZ has learned that federal prosecutors say doctors overprescribed testosterone to wrestler Chris Benoit in order to combat a hormone condition.

The revelation comes to light as new court papers have been filed in the criminal case against Benoit's personal physician, Dr. Phil Astin. The Feds have charged Astin with overprescribing medication to two other patients, and are expected to file more charges against him.

The AP reports Benoit had roughly ten times the normal level of testosterone in his system when he died.

Cops say Benoit strangled his wife Nancy and 7-year-old son, then hanged himself last June in their Atlanta home. One theory suspects so-called "roid rage" as a reason for the killings.

33. #16 is absolutely correct!! Testosterone is a controlled substance, as is cocaine and marijuana, etc. These aren't necessarily illegal, just under control by the DEA. In a scientific study, a doctor can prescribe either one of these, if he/she carries a license and DEA # to prescribe certain types of controlled medications. So is that to say that if someone commits murder while on cocaine, they should be held as less guilty?

34. Stop blaming the doctor! Benoit was a Big Boy. He knew how to say "NO" before the 1st dose. The doctor can't make him take it. If you dont know what the adverse affects of a drug are--Google it!!. He couldn't have been that dumb.

38. Amanda, poster#26, it actually says more about you as a person. It tells me that you care about creatures who are at our mercy and can't defend themselves. That said, however, I don't care more for animals than I do humans. I don't agree that animals have more rights than humans but I do think that criminals have more rights than victims. Obviously violent sports, even staged ones, breed some pretty serious consequences and I just can't imagine what the victims of this tragedy endured.
