Celebrity Justice
Prosecutor in Kiefer Case -- A Slammer Jammer

TMZ has obtained the sentencing recommendations in the Kiefer Sutherland DUI case.

The sentence is complicated, but Kiefer will do 48 days in custody.

Kiefer will do 18 days for the probation violation, surrendering December 21. He will serve an additional 30 days for the current DUI and must complete that sentence by July 1.

Based on what TMZ knows about production schedules, that would mean Kiefer is serving the bulk of his sentence when "24" is on Christmas holiday and not in production -- he may have agreed to the speedy disposition of the case in order to protect the show from having to shut down production.

Kiefer's lawyer, Blair Berk, would not comment on the case.

UPDATE: A rep for Twentieth Century Fox and the FOX Broadcasting Group issued this statement: "Today our friend Kiefer Sutherland resolved his criminal case at the earliest opportunity. Kiefer made clear to us at the time of his arrest that his first concern was the welfare of those he worked with and that he intended to do whatever was necessary to prevent shutting down the show because of his situation. He told us that even if he had to sacrifice more time in custody in order to protect the show and the jobs of those who work with him, he would do so. From what occurred today, it is evident he is a man of his word. We wish him well and look forward to a long relationship with him."

16. Time?

He won't serve time.

In fact, he's probably getting time reduced for good behavior BEFORE he even steps foot in jail.

17. I was very saddened by the news regarding Kiefer's DUI but I do have to agree, with (Debbie #12) you won't see him winning and crying, making sure his face is turned towards a camera like we did Paris Hilton's..

He is a fantastic actor and "24" is one of the greatest show's on TV..I just hope he really gets his act together regarding his drinking..

Kiefer we are all pulling for you..

18. DUI's need to FELONIES regardless. A driver's license is a privilege and until the law changes, losers will continue to drink and drive. DO NOT GIVE THE LICENSE BACK. The laws are horrible.

Funny thing is If Tommy Chong were in prison he could walk amongst the cons like he was King Chong a Giant among men But if Kiefer Southerland went to prison Hed be bubbas new bitch. Viva Cheech and Chong

22. Also, since you say that its clear you have a grudge against the show and Kiefer and your just here to bash.

23. This is california people. 48 days is a code work meaning more than 4 hours and less than 8 hours in the county Jail. Sentencing is pretty worthless if you don't have the space. I love that he was given until July 1 to serve his sentence. Maybe he'll get busted again by then :-)

25. This is too cool...basically he could go there and sleep off his drunkenness and leave in the morning. " Taxi! I need to go to the County HOTEL. "

26. Debbie, it's clear you're a shill for Kiefer's publicist. You're not fooling anybody.

27. Okay let's be honest here. The guy royally F'd up. Yes again BUT do we really need make crappy comments about him? He's a talented actor on a good show. It wasn't good judgment that got him here and he may be doomed to continued bad judgment, HOWEVER I don't doubt that he sincerely wants to make amends for this. It's way too easy to fall into this kind of behavior. And so you know I'm a very hardworking person who had a middle class upbringing and was an honor student throughout Junior High and High School. I've never driven drunk or been an alcoholic and I want to stress I'm not defending his actions or irresponsibility during this but I'm not going to hate on him either.

29. Wonder whose prison bitch he's going to be.

30. The recommendation says he can not be released to electronc monitoring but makes no comment about overcrowding. They can release him instantly since overcrowding release is governed by federal mandate not California law. Bet he is out on the street in less than 24 hours.

Now will one of you Paris haters compare this to her and explain the word fair
