Report: Hospital Suspends Staffers for Clooney Leak

George ClooneyPalisades Medical Center in New Jersey suspended dozens of doctors and hospital employees after they allegedly leaked George Clooney's medical information to the press following his motorcycle accident last month, WCBS is reporting.

According to the report, hospital officials are investigating whether staffers not directly involved in caring for Clooney and his girlfriend, Sarah Larson, logged into the hospital computer system to review his medical records.

Clooney, through his rep, told TMZ, "This is the first I've heard of it. And while I very much believe in a patient's right to privacy, I would hope that this could be settled without suspending medical workers."

Clooney's rep says he was contacted by a member of the press who had the details of the accident an hour before any statement was released.

Calls to the Palisades Medical Center were not immediately returned.

34. Don't you notice this for publicity too .. George Clooney is a whiner and not looking good at all like he did in his youth. He's an ass and can't take the heat but like ugly Streisand, he wants to get hard working people fired. They didn't all do anything and maybe no one did. Think about it and read that DOZENS of people were fired, and know dozens didn't sell his story. He's harmed a lot of people and I hope he gets paid back for this. They work hard in hospitals and long hours trying to please. We don't fault him for his friends who do things wrong and they do .. just like pretty Pitt as George called him on the Letterman show .. hey, gay is not such an impossiblity when he gives us cause to wonder. George Clooney is nothing more than a rich man, with a good family who turned his back on Jennifer Aniston when Brad was cheating on her and gave him a place to stay when he was cheating ... guess that's ok with Clooney but this isn't. And, what is this? Has anyone heard anything about Clooney that escaped to make it to the press for I have not? Clooney is no differernt whining than Howard K Stern but for their own earning power. George Clooney is making this up folks.. face it. Makes for a better opening for a film only some of you will see. I won't.

35. This is just a shot across the bow. Leaking medical information for money is extremely common & the only way to stop it is to fire some people. This reprehensible behavior is completely unethical.

Of course, one way to stop it is not to buy the rags that pay for medical info.

Celebrities are human, too and deserve their medical privacy, just as we all do.

36.
Why would he not just come out and say so if he were gay? It would not touch his career and he would be all the more loved by the Hollywood libs!

I do hope no one gets fired over it all but indeed medical privacy is one of the few privacy's we have left and I hope we don't loose it.

37. well Val I'm no Clooney fan either but if he would just shut up and make movies I might watch a few.

And all of this privacy stuff is a joke. If it's on a computer it's not private, I hardly think our medical information is encrypted either making thief and easy reading by anyone a good possibility.

38. Clooney wants everything out in the open when it comes to his politics & if he's all upset about his medical records being made public, too bad.

39. I don't understand how medical staff getting suspended because they leaked info is George Clooney's fault. Irregardless of how you feel about him, he is a victim here. He was a patient who's rights were violated. Because he is an actor or an advocate of something you may or may not support does not make it right that his privacy was violated by those who are trusted and forbidden by law to violate them. If you needed medical care somewhere and your enemy worked there, would you find it understandable and forgivable if that enemy shared that information? We should never have to question that.

40. First of all, it's HIPAA, not "HIPPA". Second of all, HIPAA is a federal act, and medical facilities and their employees are required to abide by it for any patient's records, whether celebrity or not. The employees who violated HIPAA, and the institution they work for, are liable for serious fines. The employees probably had to sign a confidentiality agreement when they were hired and should therefore be subject to termination.

41. Val, did you read this article at all? You must have missed this part:

Clooney, through his rep, told TMZ, "This is the first I've heard of it. And while I very much believe in a patient's right to privacy, I would hope that this could be settled without suspending medical workers."

WHERE DO YOU GET THAT HE WANTS TO SEE PEOPLE FIRED? Good grief.

42. Palisades Medical Center? Typical. He's lucky he walked out of there. Forget suspending them, they should all be fired.

43. Folks, please - it's not HIPPA, it's HIPAA - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act...I know it's anal for that to have bothered me....

44. I'm not understanding the folks that are complaining about Clooney being upset - HE SHOULD BE LIVID!!! If you've spent any time at the pharmacy - you know that you can't talk on YOUR OWN CELL when picking up YOUR prescription!!! You have to stand 10 FEET behind the person at the counter - HOW MUCH MORE SHOULD we EXPECT from the people who are providing medical care!!! They KNEW they NEEDED their jobs when they were on computers looking up his information! THEY SHOULD BE FIRED - ALL medical professionals SIGN forms that they will ABIDE by HIPAA - this is NOT AN OPTION!!!

45. Clooney, I hope you read this. Your statement of hoping that medical workers need not be suspended is opening a windowso that anyone is allowed to violate an individual's right to medical privacy. Suspension without pay is WELL-DESERVED!

I thought you were more intelligent than that! You're a superficial and self-centered idiot!
