Vick 'Em Shirts: Too Soon?

In an effort to poke a little fun at the Michael Vick scandal and irk rival Texas A&M, students at Texas Tech created a t-shirt depicting a football player hanging a dog with the slogan "Vick 'Em" across the front.

A&M and Tech play this weekend. The "Vick 'Em" slogan is in reference to the A&M slogan "Gig 'em" and the dog being hung in the photo is A&M's mascot. The player doing the hanging is wearing a number seven jersey -- that's Vick's number.

Amazingly enough, the shirts were created by the Theta Chi fraternity at Texas Tech in an effort to raise money for the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. According to the Daily Toreador, Texas Tech's student paper, the t-shirts are no longer being produced, and the frat was kicked off campus as a result.

"We realize the shirts shouldn't have been printed," Geoffrey Candia, the creator of the shirts, told the AP. Hindsight is 20-20!

31. TMZ, get your facts straight before you print an article. These disgusting shirts were made at Texas Tech university, not at Texas A&M. This is poor reporting and quite an insult to A&M.

A&M did not produce these shirts, Texas Tech did. Perhaps if you had attended 'university' at A&M you would have better comprehension and reading skills.

38. Aggies have zero class? Texas A&M students were not the ones who created this t-shirt, it was Texas Tech students. If anyone is classless it would be Tech students (they are known for being classless). I really hope TMZ fixes their error because it is reflecting poorly on Texas A&M students, and those who have no common sense (californiagirl) actually believe that a Texas A&M fraternity would create a t-shirt depicting the hanging of their school's mascot. I feel badly for the Tech students that disagree with this type of behavior because it tarnishes their reputation as well. Texas A&M University has a good reputation of being respectful and classy with strong traditions. The city of Lubbock must be ashamed to have a school like Texas Tech in their city, representing them. Drink up Red Raiders, its what you do best.

42. Have you people ever seen high school spirit? I know at MY high school we had ribbons every Friday with the opposing team's mascot getting brutally pounded...like "Swat the Yellow Jackets" which featured a pirate (my old mascot) swatting a wasp with its guts flying everywhere, or "Bash the Bears" with a pirate brutally bashing in a bear's head...I agree "Vick em" wasn't necessary but a t shirt of a dog being hung is not something to get your frat kicked off campus for.

44. Thanks for correcting the error in your recap of the article in the Daily Toreador, TMZ... I was floored that anyone at A&M would come up with that, but in reading the actual article [as so many readers before me did, as well], found that a Tech student was to blame.

Rivalries are fine, but this is pretty low, even by Tech standards...

Beat the hell outta t.t.!

That's why so many of you morons run around with "Saw 'em off" shirts on your back and stickers on your cars. You're a bunch of hypocritical buffoons. You're just pissed that the Techies made fun of that mangy mutt you worship down there.
