Vick 'Em Shirts: Too Soon?

In an effort to poke a little fun at the Michael Vick scandal and irk rival Texas A&M, students at Texas Tech created a t-shirt depicting a football player hanging a dog with the slogan "Vick 'Em" across the front.
Michael Vick shirts
A&M and Tech play this weekend. The "Vick 'Em" slogan is in reference to the A&M slogan "Gig 'em" and the dog being hung in the photo is A&M's mascot. The player doing the hanging is wearing a number seven jersey -- that's Vick's number.

Amazingly enough, the shirts were created by the Theta Chi fraternity at Texas Tech in an effort to raise money for the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. According to the Daily Toreador, Texas Tech's student paper, the t-shirts are no longer being produced, and the frat was kicked off campus as a result.

"We realize the shirts shouldn't have been printed," Geoffrey Candia, the creator of the shirts, told the AP. Hindsight is 20-20!

46. You think that "Vick Em'" is worse than the depiction of a dog being hung by Michael Vick? You are a sick person. You should look into attending Texas Tech, they like people like you.

47. Can you people read? (intended for Valerie)

"...students at Texas Tech created a t-shirt depicting a football player hanging a dog with the slogan "Vick 'Em" across the front."

"Amazingly enough, the shirts were created by the Theta Chi fraternity at Texas Tech"

48. Obviously people are complete idiots. Texas a&M is known for it's spirit and is rich in tradition. The people who buy and wear this (to which they will) should be ashamed of themselves. What goes around comes around and the best revenge would be a victory for a&m.

49. No, they can't read. Not a skill they teach in Godforsaken College Station.

50. To lolinternet: You're reading the article later than everyone else, it said it was created by the Theta Chi Fraternity at Texas A&M. TMZ corrected their mistake, then you read the article and assumed everyone else was dumb.

51. Hye California girl
A&M is a vet school, you think they would condone this. get your facts straight. The Aggies have ALOT more class

52. Why do you keep claiming aggies are morally superior and so "classy"?
"Gig em" refers to killing frogs with a pitchfork. It was onestudent's attempt at humor. Gig em is sanctioned by your university, the t-shirts are not. Get on with your angelic existence. In otherwords, stop whining.

Prepare to lose on Saturday for the 10th time in 13 years, aggie.

53. Hey "anything but an aggie" you're reading the article later than everyone else, TMZ corrected their mistake after they had written it was created by a fraternity at Texas A&M. It is not their fault you are slow to read the article and too retarded to realize maybe it originally said something different when 40 people commented on it.

54. Being a former Tech student, I am completely embarrased by the actions of this Tech student. This t-shirt is completely lame and not funny in the least bit. I just hope that A&M knows that this t-shirt reflects the opinions of one brainless student/fraternity and not the entire university. I am saddened that Tech's reputation has been dragged through the mud over this!

55. @ Sara:

Adding the "Vick 'em" was tacky, yes I think so. But have you HONESTLY not seen school spirit shown in a worse way than hanging the opposing school's mascot? I've seen way worse...did you GO to school? At all?

Posted at 1:58PM on Oct 10th 2007 by lolinternet

56. "Totally, totally disgusting. Yeah, killing dogs is just so cool. This just confirms my already low opinion of Texas A&M "university." "

Hey CaliforniaGirl... it was Texas Tech that made the shirts, not us.

57. That's so tacky.

58. Wow, those red raiders still amaze me. Someone should really look into why this community college is allowed to call itself a university. Those drunks are just jealous you have to be intelligent to get accepted into A&M, and the only thing they are good for is raising Texas revenues (from high tobacco sales & fines from DUIs). There is a reason you red raiders are geographically separated from the rest of the state.
