Alleged Ellen Dognapper Files Police Report

Marina Baktis, the dog rescue woman at the center of the Ellen DeGeneres scandal, filed a police report yesterday because she is being harassed for her role in the ordeal.

Baktis, along with business partner Vanessa Chekroun, runs the Mutts and Moms agency from which Ellen DeGeneres adopted her dog. Ellen then was unable to keep the dog, so she gave it to her hairdresser Cheryl's family, which includes her 12-year-old daughter Ruby. Baktis told "Access Hollywood" yesterday that they've begun receiving death threats. "My life is being threatened, this is horrible. I rescue dogs. I can't believe this."

Baktis filed the report with the Pasadena Police Department last night.

1021. INTERVIEW AT BUSYFACE.COM

Posted at 2:00AM on Oct 21st 2007 by BusyFace

1022. Is anyone aware of the fact that the only thing the friend of Ellen's had to do to keep the dog was go to the rescue shelter and fill out the paperwork and then they could have kept the dog...but for whatever self- aggrandizing reason Ellen played everybody. She should be ashamed of herself.

1023. I adopted a puppy from a rescue organization and had to basically sign the same type of agreement. To me, it makes no sense what these people did. Ellen couldn't keep the dog, so she found it a loving home. They should have just let the new people sign a new adoption agreement (and I am sure they would want another "donation") and let them keep it. They were so callous, they placed the dog in a new home already...before even giving this family a chance. Then they wonder why they get hate mail??? I saw on one of the "talk shows" it was reported that the adoption agency "misrepresented" themselves when they came to get the dog. They told the family they just wanted to make sure it was in a good home....then when they saw the dog...they attempted to leave with the dog. The hairdresser (Ellen's friend) then called the cops. This just gives rescue groups a bad name. The whole situation was handled wrong.

1024. how do we know that the new family is a good home... LAPD needs to investigate or fix their error.

1025. SHAME on Marina B. and Vanessa C. For trying to use Ellens celebrity stealing Ellens personal Property. Yes State law makes animals, pets and livestock Personal Tangible Property. When they took the "Adoption" donation they legally sold Iggy. Shame on them for enforcing there contract through Draconion methods and for breaking the law. And Shame of them for harming the reputations of Legitimate animal rescue missions.
The actions of these two egotistical women will cost hundreds of animals there futures now that people are more leary of trying to "adopt" through them.

1026. How many animal adoptions have been postponed or canceled now because these two, Marina Baktis and Vanessa Chekroun.... sociopaths actions...there is not a hole deep enough for these 2 to hide in....the damage to rescue adoptions public image and trust is the Direct responsibility with these 2 females.

1027. Just because they have 2 kids doesn't necessarily mean it was a loving home. They took in a puppy that needs training and someone at home.

Let's see

1. 2 kids that go to school all day
2. Dad that works
3. Mom that works
4. After school soccer, ballet, etc. (mom & kids out of house)

Who watches the puppy, must be the other dog because no one seems to be at home.

1028. I cannot believe this tragic and selfish act. I agree this woman and her partner just want the 15 min of fame. My mother was the animal relief foundation president in a small town in nevada and this NEVER HAPPENED ON HER WATCH!!!!!!!!!! the dog would stay with the home he had bonded with-the hairdresser and her 2 daughters! along with a new viable contract!!! PERIOD. My mother paid thousands of dollars out of her retirement to pay for the spay-neutering population problem program!!!!!!!!! thats doing a good deed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This so-called company should be inverstigated and brought clear to the supreme court if need be!!!!!!!!!! I for cruelty to a child. 2 counts!!! wished I was the hairdresser right now a million [s] dollar lawsuit is in the futrue better believe it!!!!!!! She is a piece of s--t to do this to children. CLOSE HER DOWN SO SHE CANT DO THIS AGAIN. OH! BY THE WAY A CONTRACT IS VERY EASY TO SETTLE WITHIN THE PARTIES.

1029. Nevadan, I can not see why you would think the supreme court would have time for this. If anyone is deserving of a payout it is the agency that was ruined by Ellens childish stunt. You can bet that they will sue her as a result of the Warner Bros and the Ellen shows decision to air that segment. Have you read all of the info concerning the dog?

1030. That monster, she has done so much harm to the cause of rescue agencies. She's nothing but a controlling bully and she broke the law when she adopted out an unneutured animal and then she had the nerve to stand there and refuse to listen to the police officer when he suggested she give the dog back. Ellen is taking so much heat just because she happens to be a celebrity and that is just not reasonable.

1031. No she did not follow the policy period. The contract Ellen signed forbids her to give the dog away. That is a problem with adoptions and this woman tried to work with the new owners.

They refused to comply so she removed the dog. Mutts and Moms is responsible to the parties they get the dogs from also. They are protecting the dogs in the long run. I would hate to see a child adopted then when the couple did not like it, give the child away. There are rules that need to be followed to protect the animals.

1032. ps. the hairdresser's family filled out the adoption form, that's where Baktis got their addy from. Baktis then called and asked to do a 'home inspection' but instead took the dog and tried to leave. When they tried to stop her, she refused to put the dog down. The ONLY reason she got out of there with that dog is because she did NOT change the microchip fo reflect Ellen as the owner. Whether this family is right or wrong for that dog, it is illegal to enter someone's home and remove property without a court order. (Even with a contract, the contract is for court.) Even the police cannot do that. I do think that Baktis felt she was protecting the dog, in her twisted way. If you watch her interview on Accesshollywood she says that each dog must be matched (BY HER) to the proper family. That's what she was mad about. Ellen matched the dog, and not her. Ellen could also have LIED and said that the dog was fine. Instead she told Baktis the truth, that she had found the dog a different home, and the chick went ballistic. I'm sure there is much more that none of us are told. As for me, though, someone entering MY home is not going to leave with MY stuff, not without a judge saying they can. That's called stealing, and it is illegal.

1033. MUTT! Marina Buttkiss I hope is out of business. I wouldn't want to deal with her or any resucue for that matter. She's filing police reports. JUst put her in one of her kennels and leave her there.

1034. How do we know that dad works all day? or that the kids are not homeschooled? And mom is a hairdresser, and she works for tv personalities. So she prob does not work an 8 hour day, all day every day. And maybe she works out of her home also. Leaving a puppy in a crate for short periods at a time is not cruel.A lot of people have dogs and also work. And their dogs are well cared for. Maybe they can afford a puppy nanny(?) Perhaps dad, or mom even, has the ability to take the pup with them to work. This is lala land we are talking about. I'm sure this rescue has done this type of thing before. It's just that this time, it was with a celebrity. Again, the main thing the rescue keeps crying is that the contract was violated. Then take it to court. You can't just take the law into your own hands.

1035. Well guess what...the dog is gone now. Are you that blind that you can not see past your idols mistakes. The family can adopt or buy a new dog. Wow now there is a concept. When Ellen adopted the mutt, she signed a contract that she was not to give the dog away. So it is your precious Ellens fault. Quit being a liberal and move on.
