PETA Talks Dogs

TMZ contacted PETA to get their expert opinion on the whole Ellen vs. Mutts and Moms ordeal, and the animal protection group is standing by Ellen!
Ellen n Iggy
PETA said, "At a time when so many people in Hollywood, like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, are making impetuous "pet" purchases, PETA commends Ellen for adopting a homeless animal from a shelter rather than buying a dog. Every animal purchased from a pet store is a virtual death sentence for an animal desperately waiting in a shelter for a home."

Although PETA doesn't fully side with Ellen, they do think that Ellen had only the best of intentions. "We know that Ellen was trying to do the right thing in finding the dog a new home. She just missed a step in neglecting to contact the agency first. We hope that if the new home she arranged turns out to be as good as she thought, the agency will allow the family to take the dog back. PETA does think that Mutts & Moms' policies of doing home checks and not allowing people to transfer animals to others are good rules that protect the animals. Ellen was just trying to do the right thing -- she is a huge animal lover -- and surely has learned from this experience." Even for a dog, that's a mouthful!

17. Why can't this Mutts and Moms organization just go to this other house, inspect it, evaluate it and determine if it is suitable or not for the dog instead of all this drama?

18. Don't worry ladies and gentleman .....We have contacted NASA regarding this matter and their intelligence sector has come up with a brilliant viable solution.

BUY THE LITTLE GIRL A NEW DAM DOG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She's 12 freakin years old and only had the dog for 2 wks. She probably can't even remember all the flavors of lucky charms.

Can you believe this is getting more attention on CNN and News networks than the little girl that was inadvertantly shot and killed in Tucson Arizona yesterday??????

19. The dog was given back (I thought - if that were me I wouldn't have just handed it over) because the police were there and saw that the microchip will showed the dog as belonging to Mutts and Moms (who was supposed to change it over, but never did), and they had to pretty much give the dog back.

20. There is a very clear breach of contract here but it is not like Ellen and Portia backed out of a huge purchase or studio agreement. They tried to several ways to help the pup get along with the cats in the house and it didn't work (anyone who knows cats knows how difficult this can be!).

The whole point of the matter is that the people who have "dedicated" themselves to finding homes for stray dogs have completley lost sight of their mission. The dog has been removed from the care of a family that loved him. Pets are a member of the family and if the family is heartbroken then so must be Iggy!!

Maybe Ellen and Portia went about it the wrong way but there has to be a better way to straighten out this mess than just withhold the dog and leave two young children sad and confused. I hope that this agency will take into account all the people who are distraught over this mess-especially Iggy who just needs to find a "forever home"

23. This Baktis woman is over-reacting and under-managed -- and she's brought a lot of embarrassment (and maybe an audit) to the organization; they should replace her. I agree Ellen should have cleared the transfer with her, but has she so much time on her hands that she can put her resources towards such a grandstand play? Couldn't she have let the new family foster the dog for a day or so while she cleared their references? Sounds like she has issues best settled elsewhere.

26. Harpo - lighten up! It's a joke. This story has been going on for days. I do thank you for pointing out that it is, in fact, a dog. I wasn't sure if it was a dog or perhaps a whale.

27. I have been in animal rescue for over 25 years. My husband and I have 5 Rescue Dogs, they are treated as well as any human child sometimes better. Although I agree Ellen missed a step I agree with PETA that the dog should be returned. Ellen lives in a very high profile world and she has always made it known how much she loves animals. I am sure that she would not put herself in a position to be judged by placing the animal in nothing less that a wonderful home. My husband and I tried to rescue a small dog from "Small Dog Rescue" in Atlanta, GA about five years ago. Due to that we did not live in Atlanta they would not let us adopt the dog because they could not do "home checks", etc, we had many references, they still denied the adoption. Due to this they denied this dog a wonderful loving home!!! Mutts and Mom's are obviously trying to prove a point of control with this issue and have turned it into a personal issue toward Ellen. It presents that they are using her as their example because she is high profile. It is a very immature attitude, they should think of what is best for the animal. This situation may backfire on them when it comes to a person deciding which rescue they want to support and donate to. They are putting a blemish on their own rescue shelter. Ellen gave an apology and they should accept it, check out the home and return the dog to Ruby.

28. I think this agency is just so unfair in regards to this entire mess. Here, you have a person who helps numerous causes, and obviously made a big mistake and admits to it, and yet, the agency wants to act as if she committed a crime. I commend Ellen for finding a loving home with a family that will love and care for this dog. I don't believe for a minute that if Ellen had ANY reservations that this family would not care and love this dog, then she would have not given the dog to them. The agency should be grateful that Ellen tried doing the right thing by finding a loving home, verses just giving to to anybody. Maybe the agency themselves should have gone over ALL the paperwork with Ellen and made sure that she understood everything, before letting her take the dog home to begin with. And what kind of agency would not allow a family to adopt a small dog for their children to begin with? Aren't we always told that a child needs to have a dog? What, are kids suppose to have big dogs only? And for the ages of these two little girls, they are not toddlers, they are pre-teens/teens. I highly commend Ellen for going on her show and admitting her mistake, that alone shows honesty and integrity. The agency ought to give this dog back to the little girls, the ought to do the right thing , and be grateful that the dog would be loved and cared for by a family instead of the dog remaining in a shelter until who knows when.

30. Watched the Mutts & Moms interview last night, and the woman acts like she's lost it. Sounds like she's more wrapped up in herself, than finding a loving home for the dog. Kept referring to what she's going through, and money she's put into caring for the dogs.., even though she doesn't have it. Mark up PURE SPITE, as her reason for not returning the dog. Judging from everything she said.., someone needs to step in, and possilby investigate her .., the woman's off her rocker.. seriously.
