PETA Talks Dogs

TMZ contacted PETA to get their expert opinion on the whole Ellen vs. Mutts and Moms ordeal, and the animal protection group is standing by Ellen!
Ellen n Iggy
PETA said, "At a time when so many people in Hollywood, like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, are making impetuous "pet" purchases, PETA commends Ellen for adopting a homeless animal from a shelter rather than buying a dog. Every animal purchased from a pet store is a virtual death sentence for an animal desperately waiting in a shelter for a home."

Although PETA doesn't fully side with Ellen, they do think that Ellen had only the best of intentions. "We know that Ellen was trying to do the right thing in finding the dog a new home. She just missed a step in neglecting to contact the agency first. We hope that if the new home she arranged turns out to be as good as she thought, the agency will allow the family to take the dog back. PETA does think that Mutts & Moms' policies of doing home checks and not allowing people to transfer animals to others are good rules that protect the animals. Ellen was just trying to do the right thing -- she is a huge animal lover -- and surely has learned from this experience." Even for a dog, that's a mouthful!

31. Well if we all start adopting from shelters then isn't that leaving the ones in the pet store ownerless and homeless too? I say get a dog, love it, and give it a good home and a great life.

35. So PETA knows EVERYTHING about PROPER placements for animals? A BAD home is a better home than going back to a rescue facility?

PETA knows not of what they speak...they do not know the "hairdresser" or the family.

Yes great that Ellen got a dog from a rescue, but she has to follow the adoption rules like everyone else. Every rescue organisation has the clause that if the adopted family cannot keep the animal adopted it goes back to originating rescue..why should Ellen be excluded from this? Because she cried on TV?

BTW..the place the dog is going back to is a no kill organisation..

36. Being the adoptive parent of 2 cats and 2 dogs, I do know what it is like to go through the adaptation period for animals and it can get pretty time consuming. You can tell pretty quickly if there will be problems amongst the animals. I am sure Ellen worked hard on trying to make the cats and dog adapt to each other but unfortunately this does not always happen. I am also truely saddened by that fact the Ellen did indeed find a good home and that this poor dog was removed from this new loving home! Yes paper work was missed but I am sure if this so called "Mutts and Moms" could have visited the new home with Ellen and the necessary paper work done, the poor dog could have stayed at this new home. Maybe Mutts and Moms were looking for $'s??

37. Shame on the adoption agency. It is their job and responsibility to find GOOD homes for animals and the dog was in a great home. Now the dog is back in a shelter. They are being insane and unreasonable.

39. I believe Ellen had the best intentions.

Good on you Ellen for trying to do something nice. You were trying to make the dog happy and another family happy.

I understand that she missed a step, but this is no reason to make her look at fault here.

Good luck.

40. I'm a little confused. I read on TMZ that Ellen said she never signed a contract or had a home inspection. Sooo, how did she get the dog? Did money talk??? If there was never a contract then the adoption agency needs to be looked at. If Ellen truly did sign a contract then shame on her for not contacting the adoption agency prior to giving the dog out. If there was not a contract why is Moms & Mutts getting an attorney (and shouldn't that money be used to help the animals not gain publicity)? It seems to me the agency is so upset becuase Ellen went around them and now they were unable to collect another adoption fee.

I do feel sad for the animals at this adoption agency becuase after all this negative publicity this will not be good for the shelter. Poor animals.

41. I was just wondering if the family could go and buy the dog again, it is apparent the company just wants money. Everyone else should black ball moms and mutts and put them out of business.

42. It sounds to me like the people at the animal shelter got their noses out of joint and are going to be jerks about the whole thing. When I was 12, we adopted a German Shepard from a shelter. They were concerned with how she would react to children, but allowed us to bring her home and see how things worked out. She ended up being a wonderful family pet and we loved her for the remainder of her life. These women are trying to prove a point at the dogs expense.

43. PETA are hypocrites, because they kill most of the animals they "rescue" but condemn others for doing the same.

44. My god PETA sucks... They are classified by the FBI as a terrorist organization. The FBI has investigated them as a terrorist organization. They have monetary ties to other terrorist organizations (Animal Liberation Front and the Earth Liberation Front). They're hardly credible in anything they say and...

“We are complete press sluts.” Ingrid Newkirk - Head of PETA

Please don't just lump them in with a great, caring person like Ellen... That's just offensive...

45. Ok, I understand that Mutts and Moms wants to prove a point here, but really, why all this trouble over a dog who was in a good home? If Ellen did "adopt" the dog, then that dog is under the care of Ellen and she should be able to give the dog to another loving home. Ok, so she didn't contact the shelter, but other media outlets are reporting that Ellen didn't fill out an adoption form or sign one. I personally think that Mutts and Moms is using Ellen's status to cover up their own mistakes and place the blame on someone else.
