PETA Talks Dogs

TMZ contacted PETA to get their expert opinion on the whole Ellen vs. Mutts and Moms ordeal, and the animal protection group is standing by Ellen!
Ellen n Iggy
PETA said, "At a time when so many people in Hollywood, like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, are making impetuous "pet" purchases, PETA commends Ellen for adopting a homeless animal from a shelter rather than buying a dog. Every animal purchased from a pet store is a virtual death sentence for an animal desperately waiting in a shelter for a home."

Although PETA doesn't fully side with Ellen, they do think that Ellen had only the best of intentions. "We know that Ellen was trying to do the right thing in finding the dog a new home. She just missed a step in neglecting to contact the agency first. We hope that if the new home she arranged turns out to be as good as she thought, the agency will allow the family to take the dog back. PETA does think that Mutts & Moms' policies of doing home checks and not allowing people to transfer animals to others are good rules that protect the animals. Ellen was just trying to do the right thing -- she is a huge animal lover -- and surely has learned from this experience." Even for a dog, that's a mouthful!

61. For all you people who are ignorant to the fact that PETA only helps the animals in this world and should be praised instead of called names!!! What PETA has said about this terrible ordeal is practical and sensible. Ellen did breach the contract but there is a loving home for Iggy and there are always exceptions to the rules. As for the person who thinks PETA should "shut up", well you ought to do your homework and check out what PETA has done to save animals and with their voice many, many poor animals have been saved from cruel and deadly situations. So before you open your big stupid mouth just think about that!

62. This pet adoption place is really stupid to do what they have done to Ellen. I don't care if Ellen did give the dog away to someone else, I don't know Ellen personally but just from watching her show and listing to her talk about her pets and even all the wild animals she has around her in the Holywood Hills where she lives, it's very clear that she is an animal lover and would not give an animal to someone who would not love to have a pet and make it part of their family. I know these pet adoption places are doing good things for animals but sometimes it seems harder to adopt a pet then it is to adopt a baby. I do understand that there are rules about not giving an adopted pet away without prior notice. Sometimes we need to consider the people we are inforcing these rules on. Not that Ellen is above the law but there are somethings that should be considered a case by case. GIVE THE DOG BACK!!!!!

63. This has to be one of the stupidest stories in the news this year. If Ellen were so concerned, why adopt a dog in the first place if cats can make the situation impossible? Why is PETA commending someone who adopted an animal, and then decided they couldn't take care of it.

Why is any of this news?

64. PETA has done some good work by showing people that there are abused animals out there who need someone to speak up for them but they are a crazy-weird organization. If anyone wants to get behind an animal rights organization but doesn't like PETA, they should look into Action for Animals or the Northwest Animal Rights Network! They're less "In your face" and more "do what you can!" which is totally awesome.

65. Why go out and buy the kids another dog? Well Ellen already spent 3,000 on a dog she adores and loved. Kinda sensless to find another dog when this family seemed very good with the dog they had. Ellen didn't want to give it back, she still loved little iggy.

66. I like Ellen but she is acting sort of, well, whacko over this. I feel bad for the owners of the agency. They seem to have just followed policy. I also feel bad for the kids. It is a bad situation all the way around. Still for Ellen to go on air and attack the agency was just dumb, irresponsible and a little psychotic. These people are getting death threats for doing their job and following rules that were put in place to protect the animals they adopt out. I am sorry, I am a fan but Ellen owes them an apology.

68. If Mutts n Moms is so interested in the dog, then why don't they want to give it to a loving home! They say they do a house inspection to see if the family will give it a happy home, well you know anyone can pretend to give it a happy home and once you leave things can change. I don't believe Ellen would have givin Iggy to that home if she didn't feel they would love the dog like he should be. And this thing about not wanting to give the dog to a family with kids under 14 why....So the dog can be ignored by the teenager when they start dating and aren't home often enough and the parents have to take care of it. Giving him to a child of the age of 12 shows some responsiblity from the child to the parent. I hope Mutts n Moms goes out of business, they don't sound like a credable place to get a dog from.

69. Trinity, there are many homes that have dogs and cats that live in harmony with each other. You obviously don't watch ellen very much . If you did you would know that she is a true animal lover, and it was probably a tough and loving decision on her part to find an new home for this puppy. PETA realizes that she has done wonderful things for animals. PETA also realizes that In the good ol' USA there are still heinous people who would have resolved her situation by trapping it in a pillow case and throwing it in a ditch or lake filled with water. Very sad and very but true.

70. MIKE - I GUESS TMZ AGREES YOU SHOULDN'T BE POSTING IT BECAUSE THEY'VE DELETED IT, MORE THAN ONCE. MAYBE YOU SHOULD POST YOUR OWN INFO.

72. I realize that PETA is trying to be careful about where they place animals. BUT, I am also very sure that Ellen would not give the dog to anyone she didn't know would be a responsible and loving family to it either. She spend a lot of money trying to make it happy in her home and for it to work with her kitty. Well, having a Tortie who is very possessive, I know how hard this can be. I had to give up a beautiful Blue Point Baliniese kitten because the Torite was mean to her. I was lucky though my Veternarian has made her a mascot at the clinic where she is loved and spoiled, and I still get to visit her. But not everyone is that lucky. If I had been able to find her another loving home where she could have been love they would not have gone and "taken her away." What they did was heartless, the little girls had bonded and loved the dog, and probably don't understand why they couldn't keep it.

PETA get a grip, make some concessions in your rules, there are others who know what is good for prescious furballs besides you.

74. Sue, Ellen said on her show that they had called her to see how the dog was doing. Ellen told them what had happened, and that she had found a loving home for the pup. She told them the truth and Mums & Moms folks went nuts.
