Celebrity Feuds
PETA Talks Dogs

TMZ contacted PETA to get their expert opinion on the whole Ellen vs. Mutts and Moms ordeal, and the animal protection group is standing by Ellen!
Ellen n Iggy
PETA said, "At a time when so many people in Hollywood, like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, are making impetuous "pet" purchases, PETA commends Ellen for adopting a homeless animal from a shelter rather than buying a dog. Every animal purchased from a pet store is a virtual death sentence for an animal desperately waiting in a shelter for a home."

Although PETA doesn't fully side with Ellen, they do think that Ellen had only the best of intentions. "We know that Ellen was trying to do the right thing in finding the dog a new home. She just missed a step in neglecting to contact the agency first. We hope that if the new home she arranged turns out to be as good as she thought, the agency will allow the family to take the dog back. PETA does think that Mutts & Moms' policies of doing home checks and not allowing people to transfer animals to others are good rules that protect the animals. Ellen was just trying to do the right thing -- she is a huge animal lover -- and surely has learned from this experience." Even for a dog, that's a mouthful!

76. Hey #57... You wanna see how PETA helps animals?

http://www.doggienews.com/2005/06/more-information-on-peta-animal.htm

"The Center notes that PETA makes a practice of killing most of the animals it rescues, as much as 85 percent, while finding homes for just 14 percent. The Center goes on to note that some SPCA centers are just the opposite, finding homes for a majority of its animals."

Get your facts straight before opening your blowhole kiddo... I will concede that *a few* of their *ideas* are good, but most are entirely hypocritical... For another example: PETA Senior Vice President MaryBeth Sweetland... She's a diabetic... She takes insulin... Insulin, even synthetic insulin, contains animal by-products and has been extensively tested on animals...

Do a little research for sending anyone your money, time or respect... You might be surprised what you find...

77. I am sharing this with you as I feel the child and dog belong together. This was beautifully written.

A DOG FOR JESUS
I wish someone had given Jesus a dog
As loyal and loving as mine
To sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
And adore Him for being divine.

As our Lord grew to manhood His faithful dog
Would have followed Him all through the day
While He preached to the crowds and made the sick well
And knelt in the garden to pray.

It is sad to remember that Christ went away
To face death alone and apart
With no tender dog following close behind
To comfort its Master's Heart.

And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn
How happy He would have been
As His dog kissed His hands and barked its delight
For The One who died for all men.

Well, the Lord has a dog now, I just sent Him mine
The old pal so dear to me
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone
Knowing they're in eternity.

Day after day, the whole day through
Wherever my road inclined
Four feet said, "I am coming with you!"
And trotted along behind.

78. PETA, experts? PETA and their members are not dog or dog adoption experts. They should be the last person you go to for an opinion, considering their adoption vs euthanasia record for 2006 is 95%. 95% KILLED.

79. PETA is doing major pr since the truth came out about their killing animals. read their wen-site...they are nuts!

80. i'm not a fan of ellen, never watched her series or her talk show

welp, i wont adopt a pet from ANY agency that will ALWAYS have the right to take that pet away. while i can understand the "cannot give the pet away policy", the rest is BS.

mutts and moms screwed the pooch first:

the animal was not altered, a condition ALL shelters etc require.
no home inspection was done.
the appilcation was not done.
the change of ownership on the microchip was not done.

ellen screwed up as well:

ellen not only paid their $250, she actually donated $350 above that.
she wasted $3000 on training the dog to get along with her cats, and getting it altered instead of having the shelter do it, since it is their policy.
she didn't read the contract portia signed about not giving the dog away, and then did so.

then mutts and moms really screwed the pooch and themselves:

they lied about the purpose of their visit to the hairdresser. (they claim it was for inspection, instead they grabbed the dog, made threats and had the police called)
threatened they would call the media if the dog was not returned
they took the dog, from two children , stood there and waited for the police... and got their media.
they then said they would not return the dog due to the treatment of/from "ellen"... which no matter how you word it is petty.. the dog wasn't going to be returned to ellen anyhow.
later they then claimed an age policy... after the damage was already done.

i would rather go through the SPCA, than give my life story and first born, than rent an animal from a shelter. i think most shelters are there for the right reasons and have the animals and reality clearly in mind, but today far too many have asinine requirements.

besides... i own a hybrid bobcat.. and i can hear their screams even from here about owning another animal with her in the house. doesn't matter what my cat is like etc...

oh and i never bought my cat, she was born in my home and was in my hand less than a minute old.. she's now 14.

82. i feel for ellen and the little girls who lost the dog.....my puppy got hit by a car 5 months ago and the guy was going so fast that i couldnt even get the license plate number and he died the next day the vet did all she could do to save diesel (my dog) but his internal injuries were just to severe, so i can only imagine how they must have felt to have ppl plus the cops there to rip the dog from the loving home.....GIVE THE DOG BACK.....there are worse ppl out there who mistreat there animals go get one of them then you can say that you actually saved an animal.....GIVE THE DOG BACK.....

83. Taking a puppy from children? Armed Police? Lying about the purpose of the visit to gain entry to the home?

Ellen, resist the urge to make a big donation to the shelter to make this all go away. I believe they are generating a media circus to guilt you in to writing a big check. It smells of extortion.

84. I just love Ellen and watch most every day. My husband laughs at me do to the fact I try like heck to get home in time for her show. I was totally crying w/ her as she told the story about " Iggy" ! Ellen.... you are so not responsible for the despicable actions of this Baktis woman ... I too, love animals ! If I were in a better position financially I would adopt ALL Mutts & Moms animals and see to it Baktis and partner went completely OUT of business.... then set up a much better animal rescue service ! .... I feel this little dog has been given a death threat by being taken out of its loving home and back in a cage ! I'm outraged !

85. all they should have to do is contact the agency and have them check out the new home. i think what they did was right. its a double edged sword. on one hand you cant have people adopting animals then giving them away, it works against the welfare of the animals. on the other hand, if the dog fits better in anothers home, he should be were he is bets taken care of. they should pull the dog from the home, make sure the family passes the rules and signs a contract and then give the dog back to them.

86. Why should Ellen be treated different then any other family??? If the rules of Moms and Mutts is to NOT adopt small dogs to families with children under 14 then why should they change it JUST BECAUSE IT'S A CELEBRITY???

And if you who think Moms and Mutts has studpid rules and isn't helping the dogs then by all means START YOUR OWN RESCUE GROUP if you know so much!!!! If you aren't willing to put your self in the rescues position and are only going to complain about how mean the group is then you are worthless and nothing more then a part of the homeless animal population problem.

And let's be honest - had Ellen NOT breached her contract and gone through the agency liked she contractually agreed to then none of the little girls would be crying now, would they??? So who's fault is it REALLY???

Posted at 3:39PM on Oct 17th 2007 by DeAnna

87. Oh that's right Karen - put them out of business. HELLO??? They are non-profit for God's sake! Get real!

Oh yeah and lets completely forget the fact that they are volunteers! Oh and that they probably JUST opened shop and NEVER helped any homeless dog get into a good home instead of being euthanized (which I have witnessed btw - you should check it out since you are so hip on "putting them out of business")!

88. i will not pay for a family pet, that can be taken from me at any time... to "rent" an animal from them, pay all its bills, love it, on top of a "donation".

shelters might rescue, but are not worth it to get an animal from...

what mutts and moms has done, has made it clear, rescuing from a pound is far more worth while.

89. This is all about Ellen and mutts and moms however until it goes to court thing will need to remain as they are although someone needs to file and deliver legal papers that mutts and moms can not try to sell Iggy again, and as hard headed as these two old gals are there is no telling what they will do to keep things unacceptable

90. Ellen is a fool. Tell that great family to contact the agency that took the dog and see if they can get the dog the same way Ellen did. Simple. Boo-hooing on TV is for publicity,
nothing more.
