PETA Talks Dogs

TMZ contacted PETA to get their expert opinion on the whole Ellen vs. Mutts and Moms ordeal, and the animal protection group is standing by Ellen!

PETA said, "At a time when so many people in Hollywood, like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, are making impetuous "pet" purchases, PETA commends Ellen for adopting a homeless animal from a shelter rather than buying a dog. Every animal purchased from a pet store is a virtual death sentence for an animal desperately waiting in a shelter for a home."

Although PETA doesn't fully side with Ellen, they do think that Ellen had only the best of intentions. "We know that Ellen was trying to do the right thing in finding the dog a new home. She just missed a step in neglecting to contact the agency first. We hope that if the new home she arranged turns out to be as good as she thought, the agency will allow the family to take the dog back. PETA does think that Mutts & Moms' policies of doing home checks and not allowing people to transfer animals to others are good rules that protect the animals. Ellen was just trying to do the right thing -- she is a huge animal lover -- and surely has learned from this experience." Even for a dog, that's a mouthful!

106. Private no kill shelters are not all that they are cracked up to be. A lot of places throw that name around; but what it really means is that they refuse to accept animals that they can't adopt out. By only accepting animals that they can place, they avoid responsibility for those which they can't. How convenient.
Your local aspca accepts all animals, those which are deemed by veterinarians as unfit to be pets will be euthenized, what option would you suggest?

108. I have to say that an adoption agency for pets that requires them to be handed back if anything should happen to the adopter sounds just a bit dodgy! What if the owner died and the family wanted to keep the pet? The family would not be the adopter of the dog and according to this way over the top ruckus over Ellen, they would not be happy for the dog to stay with the family!! If that's not the case and the people are caring for the pet why is this agency making so much fuss? Even Peta says it doesn't think Ellen did anything wrong in finding a loving owner with children for the dog!
Does the agency get paid everytime it adopts a pet out - if so it's no wonder they want the poor dog back, they can adopt it out as many times as they can get it back ! This agency should do the right thing and allow the family to keep the dog, re-do the adoption paperwork free of charge I might add , plus someone needs to look over their contract and check the legalities of it. These people who say the pet comes first and went straight to media should be aware that all they have done is create a situation where less not more dogs are going to be adopted from them, something they should be doing everything to avoid if they care as much as they claim to about these animals lives!
