Ellen Cancels Taping

10/18/2007 5:48 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ellen DeGeneresEllen DeGeneres has canceled the taping of her show today.

This comes days after an emotional week for Ellen, who broke down in tears on Tuesday's show, as she recalled how Iggy the dog was ripped away from her hairstylist's home by a rescue organization.

The show issued this statement: "Ellen is taking a long weekend and will be back with a new show on Tuesday."

We're told that Ellen's producers asked country crooner Keith Urban -- who was previously scheduled to appear on the show -- to perform for audience members who had already arrived for the taping, not knowing it was canceled.

Michelle, the hairdresser's family had actually applied to Mutts and Mom's to adpot the dog. That's how they got the address, and from what I understand they called and pretended they were coming to do a home inspection, but instead Marina just took the dog.

Seems to me this "rescue" was absurd. Have they never heard of that thing called "bending the rules?" My goodness, we're not talking about an animal being tortured here...taking away a pet from a loving family is the real torture, for the dog and the family. This is a no brainer.

Maybe the lesbian alliance will show solidarity - a D.C. thong snapping march w/Iggy!

This is not the second dog Ellen has handed off, but at least the third. I have neighbors who got another dog -- a great dog, by the way -- who didn't get along with Ellen's cats - over three years ago. Ellen does a lot for animals, but it was totally irresponsible for her to expose those shelter women to death threats and force them to close down, at least temporarily.

A friend of mine was at a taping of Ellens show last week. She thought there was something not right with Ellen then. Her eyes were glazed and she wasn't into the show at all, until the camera came on then she would do her thing. I think somethings up besides the dog napping.

Like I said before, I hope for the sake of all the dogs the shelter won't suffer. Whether we agree or disagree with Marina, let's not let this get so out of control that poor innocent dogs suffer.

We all need to get a life... Mutts & Moms had a different agenda because it was Ellen. Ellen, NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED.. 96% think Ruby should get Iggy back - You should run for office - When have 96% of people agreed on anything... I think your a lady with class & courage.

Some of you people are so cruel. If you don't like Ellen that's one thing, but she tried to do a good thing here. Show some compassion.

This was a total publicity stunt on Ellen's part. How come no one has questioned how TMZ's cameras just happened to be there? Ellen was in the wrong and she should have fessed up and apologized to the organization and to the family. The fact that she went on television and had an emotional breakdown is inexcusable. If she was so upset she should have cancelled production that day and not tried to initimidate the agency into doing things her way. I agree with those who say that there is something more serious going on here than her concern for Iggy.

When I first tuned to her show and saw her crying, I thought it was a joke. When I saw that she wasn't acting and was talking about her dog? I turned the channel. I think her 'act' was very unprofessional, fake and completely unnecessary.

Oh, man, #98 "sheltergirl", here's a quarter... now please go buy yourself a clue. Ellen is no more responsible for some sociopaths making death threats than you would be responsible if someone called up Ellen and made a death threat because they read your post about her handing off at least three dogs.

Baktis was irresponsible on a number of counts and I feel deeply concerned for the other dogs under her control.

I can't believe the hateful comments on both sides of this issue, and how commenters try to shoot each other down. And death threats against the agency. They may be right and they may be wrong, but death threats? No wonder there is so much violence in the world.
Ellen is only human, and admitted her mistake up front. She seemed genuinely upset.
I am also appalled at the amount of power these rescue organizations seem to have over people's lives and privacy, beyond ensuring that the animal is given to a good home. I had no idea.
This is all just so crazy.

first of all to everyone complaining about ellen talking about this on her show let's clear one thing up...ellen degeneres is on a show called...(wait for it!) the ellen degeneres show. it is her show and she can talk about whatever she chooses. if you don't like ellen or her show then don't watch it! if ellen hadn't said anything about this and then it came out in the media people would have been talking about how callous ellen is...not to care about ruby's feelings. i don't recall hearing ellen putting the blame anywhere but on herself. she admitted she made a mistake and was very sorry. all ellen asked was that the little dog be returned to ruby. not once did i hear her asking audience members to boycott mutts and moms or to make threatening phone calls. when mutts and moms made a follow-up call to ellen asking how things were going ellen did not lie about it. she explained that the dog did not get along with the cats but that she had found a good home for iggy. instead of mutts and moms being grateful to ellen for making sure iggy was safe and in a good home...they totally over-reacted. ruby's mother started to fill out the paperwork so they could keep iggy and invited marina over for the home inspection. the lady walked in and picked up the dog and tried to walk off with it. she even refused to let the little girl hold iggy one last time and tell him goodbye. ruby by the way is 12..not 2. and i am sure that she is capable of taking care of a dog and knows not to pull it's tail or pick on it. i am sure if mutts and moms had asked for another "donation" fee to offset the cost (?) and inconvienence of having to make another home visit ellen would have been glad too. (oops, i forgot! since they never did the home inspection of ellen's home seems to me like maybe she should have done that one for free) i don't know how many dogs mutts and moms have available for adoption right now...unless iggy was the only one it seems to me the logical (and sane) thing to have done would to have let ruby keep iggy and work on placing the next dog for adoption. marina has done dog rescue missions a grave disservice...how many little dogs are still in cages tonight that might possibly have been adopted if she had handled this in a different manner? and who knows where the hell iggy is right this moment? do you think he is palying in the back yard with a child that loves him or do you think he is in a kennel or cage with many other dogs all in the same predictiment?
