Ellen's Last Words on Iggy -- Stop the Violence!

After pleading over the airwaves for Iggy the Dog for the past few days, Ellen DeGeneres is giving her final statement about the situation.

After her usual dance onto the set of her talk show, a somber DeGeneres told the audience, "I think this is the last time I'm talking about this." In the episode, airing today, Ellen goes on to say how appreciative she is for all the letters and e-mails she's received, but warns her supporters not to resort to violence to make their point.

The only way she'd bring up Iggy again, she says, is if she's "lucky enough to say one day to you, Iggy has returned ... we'll have Iggy on the show to show you if that happens."

166. moms2cool - what is wrong with buying from a store front pet store?

Posted at 3:59PM on Oct 18th 2007 by Slate

167. for the love of dogs! fine, the mistake was done. do the proper paperwork that is involved. take the "personal" factor out of things. AND GIVE IGGY BACK TO THAT FAMILY. i've seen dogs in worse living conditions! being given to ellen's hairdresser is akin to winning the canine jackpot, if you ask me.

168. Someone should really check out Mutts and Moms from a tax and not-for-profit standing. $600 donation for a dog that was not neutered. Were they "buying" their supplies from Paw Boutique? That is a classic "shell-game". Seriously. Something is definitely wrong here.

What motive did they have for stealing that dog? How big was the "donation" to buy "Ellen's dog"? They certainly fenced that pooch quickly.

169. I'm the marketing manager for Petfinder.com, and we list pets at more than 11,000 shelters and rescue organizations nationwide. Their adoption requirements range from next to nothing to home visits and vet references. But ultimately, there is no shortage of pets in need of loving homes -- we've got more than 260,000 in our database -- and if people decide not to adopt because of this story, that would be the real tragedy. No matter who you think is wrong in this situation, adopting a homeless pet is the *right* thing to do.

170. These animals have been saved from perhaps, abusive or neglectful households, this is why policies are in place, no matter who you are socially, economically or status wise. The safety of these animals must come first. Would you give your personal backround check to clear the way for a friend or better yet, your hair designer to get a hand gun??? Is Ruby's family exampt from completing an application? is Ellen ? if so, where is the protection for the animals?Who is accountable?

171. To the marketing director of Petfinder.com:

It would be a really good idea to add a spot in the pet profiles for the agencies to list their requirements for adoption. That way we could avoid disreputable places like Mutts and Moms from the start. Personally, I am old school about things like this and rescue my own animals. A quick trip to the "pound" or a few questions around my vet's office has always worked for me.

I have wasted time and emotional energy dealing with a rescue agency. I set up an appointment bonded with the animal, and then was confronted by a list of requirements that were abolutely laughable. I did not adopt the animal but a great deal of time and gasoline were wasted.

If you really care about animals and not your own business, you could save a lot of people a lot of frustration and really streamline the process overall by having the agencies that have animals on your site clearly list whatever adoption requirements and restrictions they have right beside the picture of the animal.

172. I think the placement people were idiotic and quite frankly had this occurred in Texas the police would not have allowed a third party to come on private property and take the dog away if the dog was in good shape. The fact that in California, based on the word of a woman who shows up claiming to have legal custody of a dog with no proof of that and take a dog out of a home is proof of how nuts it is in California.
Anyone who has been buying product or services from these people should blackball them immediately and put them out of business.
And the children (mine were and so are my grandchildren) under the age of 10 who grew up with dogs who were like revered members of the family are defamed by these two silly women?
Only in California, land of the silly.

173. Ya right Ellen. Maybe you should have thought about that before you pulled the NUCLEAR TRIGGER on these guys and blabbed about it on air --and every news program in the western civilization!

You're own publisist threatened them with a massive negative PR campaign if they did not bend to YOUR wishes... and that's exactly what you did.

Now, it's YOUR ACTIONS that have sent this thing out of control. YOU KNEW EXACTLY what would happen. You're no fool. You used your ability to get on the air to create simpathy for YOUR CAUSE, and now everyone else must suffer.

This statement is just more damage control. You should be ashamed and you should pubically apologise to everyone you hurt by this outrageous use of your power in the media.

The next time to think so selfishly, please go back in your dressing room and put on your "nice face" again. It may not fit on that big head anymore but it's what the public wants.

Posted at 4:53PM on Oct 18th 2007 by Ellen -- you did a bad thing. A very bad thing.

174. Emily,

Can someone please explain the reason anyone should adopt rather than buy? What are the advantages of one over the other?

Posted at 4:57PM on Oct 18th 2007 by Jezz

175. Re 167:

Your statement is absolutely laughable.

People got pissed off because they heard what happened, not because Ellen cried. The press grabbed this story and ran with it because the people at Mutts and Moms stole a puppy from a child.

Ellen's "cause" was that a child not be separated from a pet that she had grown to love. The sympathy that is felt by the public at large is because they agree with that "cause".

Look at the numbers. 96 percent of the public at large agrees with her. If she had that kind of influence, she would not be running a talk show, she would be running the freaking planet. 96 percent of the public never agrees on anything except for the fact that Mutts and Moms are WRONG.

The only personal agenda I see here is from the people over at Mutts and Moms.

The only people responsible for their actions are themselves. The root cause of all of the anger and hatred they are recieving is that they STOLE A PUPPY from a child.

What is selfish? Is giving a puppy to a family that loves it selfish? Is stealing a puppy from a kid that is now neutered, had all of its shots, thousands of dollars of training, and much more valuable because it is famous selfish?

176. Mutts and Mom's have let a golden opportunity slip away. Of course they don't *have* to give the dog back, but they could have if they wanted to. The rules and regulations are in place to protect the animals, but clearly the dog wasn't in any kind of danger. The dog was in a loving home, and they could have made an exception as I'm sure they have done before. They could have gone on the show, given the dog back...think of all the great publicity they would have gotten, which means more donations, more adoptions, etc. Now instead, their name is being dragged through the mud and that's not Ellen's fault. Ellen was honest about her mistake and tried to make things right. She is a caring and compassionate person and I hope she won't be too hard on herself. Any fan of Ellen knows that she's not the type of person to use her celebrity. I think if anything, it was Marina who made this about Ellen's celebrity. Yes Marina has processed thousands of adoptions, and I'm sure out of all of them there has been at least one exception to the rules! Come on! Marina just showed herself to be controlling and cruel. The poor wee dog must have been terrified when she went in all commando and practically kidnapped him.

We love you Ellen! Keep your chin up!

177. I SAY BOYCOTT "MUTTS AND MOMS". What 's the difference the dog was at a good home and the family bonded with the dog. I think those people at that dog rescue agency were so stupid and inconsiderate. They should pay back every penny that Ellen spent on that dog.

Posted at 10:51PM on Oct 18th 2007 by DON'T GO TO MUTTS AND MOMS IN PASADENA, CALIFORNIA

178. TO ALL ELLEN BASHERS!

This is to all those that resorted to 1st grade name (Lezbo- that wuz your best sho?t!)calling AND this is a reminder of those who in Ellen's name, without her consent, resorted to threats of violence.

I want you to think about this: When the woman from Moms & Mutts called Ellen to inquire about the dog, she was HONEST. The woman however, responded to Ellen's honesty with deceit. Period. The End Ellen's frankness about the dog should have been a HUGE red flag for the woman that Ellen was not aware of the infamous clause. Had she SIMPLY said- "Ellen, you know that violates the contract, right?" might have given Ellen a CHANCE to explain and work it out like adults. But, no, she chose to lie to Ellen, to the new owners and then so callously hold the dog away from the children in stead of waiting to go in with the police. I think that was pretty cold, but in NO WAY deserving of a death threat!

If ANY of you that chose to spew hate, if you had actually ever stopped to learn all that Ellen has done, for people like us, the non famous people. Case in point: Ellen saw a young man on you tube who could leap over a car and she love it. So, they tracked the young man down and invites him to be on her show. He was great- they brought a car onstage and he jumped over it, then later jumped over 5 or 6 cars all in a row! He later told Ellen that his dream was to be in a Nike commercial. SO, Ellen calls the CEO of Nike and she surprised him today with an appearance at the opening of a new NIke store, $5000 shopping spree at Nike and a spot in the new spot for NIke.com! She made a dream come true for regular guy like us. He's not her first either- not by a long shot.

So, yea, Ellen's a real bitch, hugh?

179. I will never have anything to do with Mutts and Mom's, this is unforgivable that women was horrible to take that dog. Lying about doing a house check so she can snatch that poor dog and hold it away from it's new forever family. Poor little guy didn't look at all happy to be held by her, and for 2 hours! She has no business running a animal adoption agency if she can not tell a good home when she sees it. The most important thing is to give that dog a home asap and not snatch him away. It makes me want to cry, so I sure don't blame Ellen for being emotional. She didn't give Iggy away because she didn't like him, she obviously grew very attached to the dog and so wanted to give him a good home where he could be loved.

180. Mutts and Nuts has a perfect opportunity to turn this around. Go snatch the dog from the NEW family that those b*tches gave it to, return the dog to Ruby, and then bask in the glow of doing the right thing, and watch your business quadruple!!

The American public loves a company that does the right thing where a child is concerned. If you decide NOT to do the right thing, I believe you can kiss you business good-by. You are now the most hated women in the country.

Oh, and whhile you're contemplating doing the right thing, why dont you stop posting messages here under assumed names? You're not fooling anyone, you Nazi lunatic!!!!!!!
