Ellen's Last Words on Iggy -- Stop the Violence!

After pleading over the airwaves for Iggy the Dog for the past few days, Ellen DeGeneres is giving her final statement about the situation.

After her usual dance onto the set of her talk show, a somber DeGeneres told the audience, "I think this is the last time I'm talking about this." In the episode, airing today, Ellen goes on to say how appreciative she is for all the letters and e-mails she's received, but warns her supporters not to resort to violence to make their point.

The only way she'd bring up Iggy again, she says, is if she's "lucky enough to say one day to you, Iggy has returned ... we'll have Iggy on the show to show you if that happens."

16. I am one who thinks Ellen did wrong in giving away the dog WITHOUT talking to the company first, however I do think the matter was handled wrong on both sides. The agency, whilst apparently within their rights to take back the dog, did not have to resort to the methods that they did. We already know by now that the company didn't follow their own rules in this matter, although they expected that Ellen and Portia would adhere to the rules. Yes Ellen broke a contract (which she didn't sign) but the company didn't exactly follow their own rules when they gave her the dog. There was no house inspection which they claim to be a very important step in adopting the dog.

Whilst I feel that the company itself is to blame for all the negative press they are getting - let's face it, had they sat down with the family and discussed the matter with them first and were polite about the situation, we wouldn't be hearing about this - not once did Ellen say to her fans and viewers "bombard them with hateful emails and phone calls and threaten them." She just wanted the dog returned and made a plea on national television. She didn't tell people to resort to violence.

I just wish the matter could have been handled more maturely - there was immaturity on both sides and I believe the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. I don't think the girl will ever get the dog back because of all this negative press. The only person I feel sorry for is the little girl, and of course Iggy who just seems to be passed around from house to house. The poor dog is probably going to wonder how long he's going to stay at his new home (if the reports are true that is.)

17. Those people should just give the dog back. Then they wouldn't have to worry about some crazy Italian breaking their knee-caps! ;)

19. This ridiculous woman wanted her 15 minutes of fame. She could have spoken to Ellen without the threats of going to the media, agreed to check the new home and been a dog rescuer to the Stars...Instead she decided to show thew world that she could not be "bullied" by Ellen and Hollywood stars and did the most horrible thing by ripping that dog out of the house under false pretenses. Saw her lawyer on Greta last night anh he is a bigger ass! I think Greta was disturbed by his attitude as well.
Ellen donated $600 to the Rescue, neutered the dog, spent $3000 to train him and loves animals.
Well the woman got her 15 minutes of fame....and had to shut down her website, got taken off of Petfinders, and has lost more business then she will ever know..Congrats, you get what you ask for!!!

20. AN OPEN LETTER FROM PETSTYLE.COM

Dear Readers,

When a rescue organization sets out on a mission, it's number one goal is to save the lives of animals. The most successful way to do this is to place that animal with a family that will provide it necessities and hopefully love. We all know that not every adoption/rescue that is undertaken goes well. In this case however, the ending would have been successful. Ellen Degeneres is a kind person who loves people and animals. She has spent considerable time and large sums of money to help those in need. Those on two legs and four! I believe that she is stunned by this "insanity" and deeply hurt. She acted from the heart. While it is true that her agreement prohibited her actions, there was no malicous intent to harm anyone. In fact, her one goal was to save an animal and make a little girl happy. We at PETSTYLE.COM fully support Ellen and her continued passion to help pets everywhere. One need only to hear the stories as much as we do about the cruelty to animals to understand when someone is genuinely trying to do good. Everyone involved in this needs to stop.... breathe....and do what is best for the animal and the family. Ellen, thank you for allowing the world to see your passion. Sincerely, PETSTYLE.COM

21. I read on dlisted that the dog has already been adopted out to a new home so Ellen does not have a chance to get it back.

22. First I don't think the story should have been brought to the open the way Ellen did. Second if she or Portia sign a contract than their is no question who the dog goes back to. Maybe to have saved all this headache Portia or Ellen should have called to find out if their would have been a problem giving the dog away to someone else.

If this was done by a normal couple would they have gotten this much of a reaction from the audience?

24. and to everyone who is saying that ellen should just go out a buy ruby a new puppy i have this to say...yes, ellen could easily go out a buy ruby a new puppy. ellen could probably buy a new puppy for everyone in america and not worry about the cost. but ellen was trying to do something right by adopting an animal who had been abandoned..to give little iggy a chance at a new life. if ellen went and bought a dog people would be complaining about that too. saying that she is promoting puppy mills, etc. ellen..if you happen to read this...next time you want to adopt a dog go to your local humane society. you won't be
investigated and "interrogated" and basically made to walk over burning coals before some nutjob determines if you are worthy of receiving a dog...and my local humane society usual
requested donation fee is only $40.00..not $600.00 and you will also get a coupon for a percentage off of the cost of spaying/nuetering the animal. and when you leave the humane society with your new dog...the kind lady wont steer you through the store pointing out all of the things your new friend is going to need....which i am sure she sells for a pretty hefty sum.

25. The dog has a new and improved home, that is what matters. Leave the Rescue group alone, they did the right thing. Portia signed the contract and needs to be the one getting her mug out there boohooing. And Rescues have different rules for different pets, that's their perogative. Each pet needs a specific type of home and that is for them to decided. Now Ellen and all her weird groupies need to get a life and move on.

26. I have always loved and respected Ellen, but what she did this week, in regards to Iggy was highly irritating to me! Because she didn't follow the rules of the pet shop's contract AND, most importantly, she couldn't get her way, she decides to put the pet shop on "BLAST!" She and only she is the reason the shop is receiving death threats! She intentionally ruin their reputation with fake tears! ELLEN, you can't get YOUR way all the time -- no matter how much $$$ you have! Get a life and move on!

27. What did Ellen think would happen when she broke down sobbing on national tv? Of course her rabid fans would react and attack. It's too bad Ellen made it so public..Had she not made such a spectacle of herself, she may have been able to work with the pet adoption agency to get the puppy back to the family.

28. I've read through some of these post and grew both bored and amused. Iggy's gone, Ellen, her staff and this family has suffered because of the actions of others. End of story. Ellen comes out smelling of roses because she's done the right thing period.

The video where Marina Baktis is hogging Iggy is so sad. How old is this women eight? And then she goes on national TV balling her eyes having her hired legal team blame Ellen for other peoples actions and Ellen's the bad guy? Guess we know where all of those adoption donations are going, have to pay the man to point fingers at the innocent so we can try to make even more money off of her.

29. FIRST......Mutts and Moms did not follow their own policy, no paperwork completed, no background check, no home visit. Only one visit from Ellen and Portia, PORTIA is the one who signed the contract. M&M were so over zealous wanting a celebrity to adopt a dog from them and receive an incredible donation they just jumped in and treated Ellen and Portia like royalty.
Ellen openly admits she screwed up, thought she was doing a good thing by not taking the dog back to a kennel to be locked in a cage and instead gave the puppy to a family.
The family HAS tried to adopt the puppy back, but M&M made a public statement through the attorney that because Ellen is a celebrity they re-fuse to be bullied and furthermore will not allow any home with kids under 14 to adopt from them.
Continue the hilarious insults to both parties, but please get some facts straight.

30. It seems when you buy a dog from a breeder, pet store or private party or even if someone gives it to you, that dog is yours. You can sell it or do what you like. For some reason this is not the case with adoption/rescue places. They want to maintain ownership and control over the dog even though you've essentially 'paid' for it. I don't think most people know this and I don't understand this need to control the dog foverever. You can't give it to anyone, can't sell it or turn it in to the shelter. What's up with that anyway? It's certainly changed my mind about adopting I tell you that.
