Celebrity Justice
No Brit and Run for Spears

Britney SpearsBritney Spears has dodged a bullet.

The judge in the hit and run case against the popwreck permanently stayed the hit and run charge. It's complicated, but basically it means since Spears settled with the alleged victim by paying her around $1,000 plus rental car fees, she won't be prosecuted for hit and run.

As for the other criminal charge -- driving without a California license -- Britney plead not guilty. Her next appearance is set for November 26. The judge ordered her to appear. But guess what? Britney's dance card is full. There's a hearing in her custody case that same day. It's hard juggling all that legal stuff, y'all.

Stay tuned.

16. I agree with # 12 - It get's old really fast. And it doesnt look like it's going to stop anytime soon.

She should be put behind bars...It's the only way to get thru to her

17. I just think that in her mind, it is so all about her that it didn't even occur to her that someone else wouldn't handle it after she hit that car. I doubt she was even aware what the procedure IS if you hit another car but the other owner is absent. She did indeed dodge a bullet, and she certainly knows NOW that if you hit a car, you leave a note or stick around. If she does it again, however, and gets caught, there will be no excuse. At this point I agree that it serves no purpose to pursue the charges considering she has made the proper amends. It would just be jailing her for naivete or stupidity. She's in a really steep learning curve here now, isn't she? Over protected = learning everything the really hard way in her twenties. I do have just a little empathy for her, but am entertained (or maybe incredulously astounded) in a dark and warped way at her trials and tribulations from a distance. Not right, but there it is.

18. YOU ARE ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL STUPID. READ MY COMMENTS FROM WHEN TMZ FIRST BROKE THE STORY........ I WAS A VICTIM IN A HIT AND RUN AND I SETTLED THE SAME WAY . I MADE THE BITCH PAY UP AND IF SHE DIDNT, I COULD PRESS CHARGES THEN THE DA WILL PROSECUTE...IF YOU'VE EVER BEEN INVOLVED IN THIS SITUATION YOU'D KNOW THE CHOICES. THE LADY DIDNT FEEL THAT A TRUE CRIME HAS BEEN COMMITED>>NO ONE WAS INJURED AND SHE DIDNT COVER ANYTHING UP. SO GIVE IT UP U LAMES. IT'S NOT THE COURTS, THE LADY DECIDED STUUUUUPEEDOOOOOS

19. Putting her on probation is a good start. Drive like an idiot within the next year and she'll go to jail. No drugs in Jail Brit! She needs rehab badly. I shutter at the thought of this drugged up idiot driving around with her kids in the car. Someone has to step in and stop this. It's just a matter of time.

21. So if I hit your car and the cops know I did it and I pay you for your damage/trouble, does that mean I don't get a ticket? NO! How is it that 'hollywood can just wipe the slate with money, when the rest of us get stuck with tickets, with having to pay the injured party and with points against our drivers licenses? And she didn't even have a valid California license at the time, but just you watch the fact that she ran out and got one (after the fact) will be as good as if she did when it gets before the judge? Why do the rich get the free ride, are they gods in the eyes of society? Is Hollywood truly our nations greatest asset in the hearts & minds of the movie going / music buying / bling bling hungry public? Are they national treasures? Why don't we just pass a federal law giving them Diplomatic Immunity and give anyone a member of the Screen Actors Guild an outright free pass to break as many laws & hurt as many people as they wish? Give them special License Plates (a golden ticket) and we'll just let them pass. Hell let's just give them the 'HOV lanes & give them first dibs at handicapp parking spaces. They won't have to worry about such inconvienences as 'jury-duty, or speeding, or driving sober, or whatever? Oh Wait a minute, they already do. They are very special people. We need them more than anything. We wouldn'd be able to survive if they weren't in the movies or the music that play through our IPhones or on tabloid/trash tv/gossip websites. Can we just acknowledge it and move on? I'd love to have clicked on this site today and read that so and so got in a fenderbender and had to pay a fine and was responsible blah blah blah. But instead; it's always about how they got off on this or that, and dwell in another dememsion. Perhaps the 4th demension is the difference between celebrity justice and the rules that we have to live by? Just a thought. Thank you...

26. For # 11 I See STUPID People: The point I was trying to make, but apparently didn't express it clearly, was that Britney SHOULD have been charged with drug and child abuse, but the gutless, ball-less "authorities" at LA county refused to investigate or bring her up on charges. Of course, no one should be jailed without proper charges being brought against them. LA County Sheriff and Child Protective Services really dropped the ball on this one, they should have brought her up on charges and prosecuted her to the fullest extent of the law, but they DO give special privileges to celebrities out here. Believe me, if it was you or me pulling this crap we'd already be in jail.

27. Driving without a license, that is driving without a California license. She had a valid license just not a California one. So is this an offense that requires a trial? Only in California. Anywhere else she would have been given a ticket, and ordered to present a valid license for that state.

This is a perfect example of the prosecutor grandstanding for the press. It is also a perfect example of why the courts and the office of the attorney general in California should be put under Federal supervision. The state is a joke and an embarassment to our entire natiom.

28. Britney is on this medication per X17. This warning just came out. Anyone know how to get this info to her?

October 25, 2007 — Information regarding cases of serious rash, hypersensitivity reactions, and psychiatric symptoms has been added to the safety labeling for modafinil tablets (Provigil, Cephalon, Inc), the US Food and Drug Administration warned healthcare professionals yesterday.

Rare cases of life-threatening rash, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), and drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms have been reported in adults and children during worldwide postmarketing use of modafinil.

The incidence of SJS and TEN exceeds the background rate (1 – 2 cases/million-person years) despite likely underreporting. Cases of angioedema and sometimes fatal multiorgan hypersensitivity reactions have also been reported.

Patients should be instructed to immediately discontinue therapy and contact their healthcare professional if a rash or other hypersensitivity reaction occurs, according to an alert sent from MedWatch, the FDA's safety information and adverse event reporting program.

Psychiatric adverse events have also been reported in connection with modafinil, including anxiety, mania, hallucinations, and suicidal ideation. Caution is advised when treating patients with a history of psychosis, depression, or mania; discontinuation of therapy should be considered in those who develop psychiatric symptoms.

Modafinil is indicated to improve wakefulness in adult patients with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome, and shift work sleep disorder. It is not approved for use in children.

Healthcare professionals are encouraged to contact the company at 1-800-896-5855 regarding modafinil-related cases of rash or other hypersensitivity reactions.

Adverse events related to modafinil should also be reported to the FDA's MedWatch reporting program by phone at 1-800-FDA-1088, by fax at 1-800-FDA-0178, online at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch, or by mail to 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787.

29. She had a license from her home state, but she has lived in CA for a number of years . I guess her case would turn on whether or not she kept her license current in her home state. If not, then she would have been driving without a license. No one needs a license for each state you drive through. Motor vehicle laws also state a time period in which you must have a license from the state you move to.
