Woman Says -- Copperfield Creeped Me Out

An Atlanta woman went on camera with TMZ TV and said David Copperfield made a move on her during his Vegas show, just days before the FBI raided his Vegas warehouse and seized digital camera equipment and a computer hard drive.

The woman -- Amanda from Atlanta -- says Copperfield's people singled her out before the show and "marked" her for David to invite her onstage during the performance. Afterward, Amanda, who was wearing an extremely short dress, says David wanted to meet her backstage, where she was escorted by one of his assistants.

As TMZ first reported, sources say Copperfield has used his show to "pick up women," targeting them in the audience, bringing them backstage after the show, taking their pictures with a digital camera, and then interviewing them on the things they liked. In particular, we're told the women were asked if they liked the Bahamas -- Copperfield owns a series of islands there.

The investigation was triggered by a Seattle woman who claims Copperfield sexually assaulted her in the Bahamas. Copperfield denies any wrongdoing.

Other women have written on the TMZ message board, recounting experiences where Copperfield allegedly hit on them during his shows.

To hear Amanda's story and the tales of other women, watch TMZ tonight. Check your local listings.

182. errrrrrm not to enforce the whole "it's her fault she did something to provoke it" thing, but 1 look at her dress 2 look at the way she carries herself and 3 look who is on tmz......i'm not saying that david copperfield is in the right and she's in the wrong....but why do i have a sneaky suspicion she's a fame wh**e? or at least a wanna be fame wh**e

184. Before I say anything else, let me say these two things outright. I am a lifelong David Copperfield fan and I believe he is innocent of any misconduct. Why? How can I say so if I do not know him personally? Well, many may disagree but this my opinion. David is a performer. The personality and "moves" audience members see and experience during shows isn't 100% David. He's acting. Whether it's cool or embarrassing enough to make you blush, it's all done in the name of entertainment. (And these days, most people who go to a show want to see a bit more than just warm, fuzzy, sweet and proper. )

"So what does his behavior onstage have to do with behavior off?" Plenty. Fan or not, most people only see David on TV so, when and if they ever do meet him in reality, they've already formed their own opinion on some level, good or bad, as to who he is, his likes, dislikes and so on...even down to the type of woman he prefers and how he might interact with women who fit those preferences. The results? Mixed signals and tons of possibilities for huge misunderstandings.

As a woman, I'd never dare say that others who've been made to feel uncomfortable in Copperfield's company don't have legitimate complaints. What I am saying is, onstage or off, keep in mind that the person you are meeting may be a jerk or may be the nicest guy you meet all day. Any woman meeting a man she doesn't know should be on guard and prepared to remove herself if the situation becomes uncomfortable. Simultaneously however, there are times when things are precisely as they appear. So, give people some slack.. One woman's frog is often another's prince but no one knows for sure until they give the frog a chance. Keep an open mind until the investigation is officially closed.

185. I watched the show last night & this girl is married. She didn't say anything bad about Copperfield, just that the scheme to pick up chicks exist. That's it. Why all the name calling?

Have any of you been to Vegas? I think 90% of the 20 somethings are dressed like that. Fine with me.

After watching the TMZ show last night the girl seemed very nice & was just confirming that there seemed to be a scheme to pick up chicks out of the audience.

Take it easy...

186. I'm not a David Copperfield fan but I believe he is innocent of these charges. A get rich quick theme by the so called Victim. And I also found out that he is Jewish. In times of trouble and discord anti-semetic people are out there in this time and age it is sad. Someone who has made it finally made it . And one female whoses voice is loud and clear to purposely ruin him. Im a female.

187. There is a grand jury investigation in Washington state. Read up on it. It sounds like the woman making the allegation has her family to support at least part of her story. She is only 21, did go to the Bahamas to meet him and claims she was the only person on the island with him, even though he allegedly told her there would be other guests. There, she claims, he raped her and assaulted her over a two day period before putting her on a plane and warning her to keep quiet. I'm starting to feel uncomfortable with this story. It is starting to make me wonder about Mr. Copperfield.

188. As I said in an earlier statement....'she's only 21', but she certainly didn't hesitate to go along to this island with the man. She was starstruck and looking for some fun. What did she think was going to happen? Some great party with lots of balloons and carnival rides? I feel badly for her if something, in fact, did happen, but again.....she's young, but I'm sure she can pronounce the words...'no, thanks'.

189. It's really scary when you think that folks on this site are probably legally able to vote or serve on a jury. This is 2007 folks! It's not the 1950's or days of the Scarlet Letter! If a man were physically assaulted by someone and filed charges, how quick would people that know nothing of the assault be to say the accuser "asked for it", "was stupid", "dressed like he wanted it", "is a gold digger"... not to mention using terms like whore, slut, etc.? But when a woman files an assault charge, and it has the credibility to warrant the FBI's involvement, people that know nothing of the case automatically say she's a "gold digger", "extortionist", "stupid", and "asked for it"? It's reactions like these that make it difficult for women that have been sexually assaulted to come forward and file charges against an attacker. Have there been cases of false accusations in history, even recent history? Yes, and shame on those individuals. But why are people so quick to judge the accuser in this case so negatively without knowing anything about the case? Shame on you! Let the evidence be presented in a court of law and let a verdict of guilt or innocence be decided upon based upon actual evidence. And with the similarity in experiences that women are sharing on this site about Copperfield, photos being taken back stage, and talk of the Bahamas... any woman that has had any assault situation with Copperfield should be talking to the FBI now. Any woman that was invited to the Bahamas with the understanding that there would be other people there should be talking to the FBI now. Any woman that was invited to travel and then physically dumped somewhere should be talking to the FBI now. Until the court files a ruling, both sides of the case are innocent until proven guilty.

190. #183 You believe he's innocent just because he's Jewish???? Good God help us all. Please tell me you aren't legally able to vote or serve on a jury.... The logical reasoning capabilities on this site is beyond belief.

191. Sounds very familiar. Same type of set up happened to my friend and I in the 80's while at his show in Atlantic City. He had his "gophers" running around after us all nite. Went back to his penthouse suite afterward...he was very funny and we were very married but that didn't bother him at all. We split.

193. I heard something the other day that reminded me of this story-sometimes smart people ARE a little bit different or "weird" and maybe that's what happened in this case! He is DEFINITELY a smart person..... He may have been misunderstood.

194. A 21 year old woman flies to an exclusive, private resort owned by an internationally famous man. He says he will help her with her modeling career. And she thinks, "I'm going to be the next Claudia Schiffer." The weekend seems to go well. She has the famous man all to herself, fawning over her, telling her how beautiful she is. Then she goes home, and nothing. Not a word. And she's not America's Next Top Model. She's angry, hurt, maybe feeling used, especially after telling her friends how David Copperfield is going to help her career. Months later she accuses him of abusing her. That' s my guess.
He shouldn't be doing this kind of crap, enticing young women who are 30 years younger than he is into a one-night stand. But its nothing new, and, sadly, bad judgment on both their parts leads to this sort of tabloid fodder.

195. The way she dressed gave the signal("to sell", I mean) to say okay to have fun and have sex. She has chosen the dress to wear because she wants everyone to think she is very sexy woman, hoping to be noticed somehow. I believe its what make the woman sexy is dress normally and not give most of herself. It looks to me, She seems happy to be on the photo looking for a 15 minutes of fame. She even did not look distraughted at all on the photo and happy to showing off her dress on the night she was on David Copperfield Show?!
